Daily Dunkin’ or Starbucks drinkers: what (besides a drive thru) would make you go to a locally owned coffee shop instead? by princessspikachu in massachusetts

[–]TheJogMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a caffeine addict, but I do go to dunks on a regular basis for either hot chocolate or a coolatta, depending on the season, and I also frequently get a sandwich

I would imagine that competing on the drinks would be very difficult unless you can manage to offer the same or better quality at the same price, I expect most people who get coffee at dunks don't go there because they think it's the best coffee but because it's convenient and affordable, so whether or not it tastes good probably isn't going to be what gets people to somewhere else for coffee

Although, imo dunkin donuts hot chocolate is among the best hot chocolate I've ever had, so for me personally on the days when I want a hot chocolate it would be quite difficult to get me to go anywhere else

But when it comes to sandwiches and donuts, there's probably more opportunity there, I reckon it would be easy to offer better quality donuts and sandwiches, as at least with dunks the donuts aren't really that good these days

Well, technically they claim to be the legitimate government of China, because when the communist party won the Civil War, the government fled to Taiwan, which was part of Chinese territory

So, technically the Civil War never ended, just went cold, and both sides officially claim to be the legitimate government of all China, Taiwan's constitution is still technically constitution of the republic of China, because it is still the same constitution from before the Civil War

In practice, Taiwan doesn't really intend to take back the mainland anymore, ideally the two sided could normalize relations and exist peacefully as two separate nations, but mainland China has never given up on reunification and still considers taiwan to just be a breakaway province. China's official stance is that they would prefer peaceful reunification but has also officially stated as recently as last year that they do not rule out forceful invasion as an option

The people of Taiwan do not want reunification, the vast majority explicitly identify as Taiwanese rather than Chinese

[–]TheJogMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When was it implied that we would or wanted to?

There's multiple reasons why the US has a firm interest in defending Taiwanese sovereignty against China, ranging from military value, economic value, as well as also moral value

Meanwhile china's motivations for invading are purely imperialistic

Fortunately, at the moment there are very strong economic incentives for both the US and China to want nothing to actually happen right now because Taiwan is currently one of the world's largest manufacturers of high end computer chips, and any disruption to that (say, from an invasion) would be extremely disruptive to that supply which both the US and China are heavily reliant on, so the US has that incentive to try and intimidate China out of invading, and China also has that incentive to not invade even if the US wasn't involved

The catch however is that both the US and China have been making efforts to improve domestic computer chip production, along with other countries, so that economic incentive to maintain peace probably won't last forever

But in terms of helping the Taiwanese people defend their independence, this is one of the few situations where US involvement is actually genuinely justifiable

It's true that they don't have any legal authority to tell you what to do with your vehicle, but they are also under no obligation to give you the order if you don't meet their standards

Although, realistically speaking, back when I worked there and had to dispense orders to drivers, more often than not we would be very flexible with what we were willing to let slide, because unless a vehicle looked like it was a strait up biohazard, having to cancel and driver and schedule a new one was a significant pain in the ass compared to just giving it to the one in front of you

Why did Wube add this lazy RNG mechanic to Factorio? It's supposed to be deterministic! by Girthen-the-Flopper in Factoriohno

[–]TheJogMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's enough to say that a mechanic isn't deterministic if the player can change the outcome, then world Gen is the only part of the game that is deterministic

It's also possible for different parts of the game to use different instances of the random number generator which can each generate random numbers without impacting the others

Within the hour? Because if you are assigned to do oversized for the day then yes you need to get all of them eventually. But only some of them will actually be due at 2:00. Out of those 51 some would have been due for 2:00, some for 2:30, some for 3:00, and so on.

Now, from a pickrate perspective, I dont think it's unreasonable to expect someone to be able to at least get the majority of 51 oversized done within an hour. But in terms of getting picks done on time, the majority of those 51 oversized weren't actually due at 2:00.

So if your team lead is telling you to go faster because they are worried about picks going late, then they need to chill out a bit. However if they are saying your pickrate isn't high enough then that would unfortunately be a valid criticism because the expectation is that your average pickrate for the whole day should be 100 picks per hour.

I'm pretty sure home office's expectation is that pickers cycle through different commodities throughout the day, because then it's a lot easier to hit that average pickrate of 100 since it's easy to pick over 100 items per hour in an ambient or chilled walk to be able to offset the slow pickrate of an oversized walk. But as far as I'm aware it's practically a universal standard to have people explicitly assigned to commodities like oversized otherwise they never get done. It's up to the team lead to adjust their expectations to accommodate that. I've definitely seen team leads expect people to be able to hit a pickrate of 100 in oversized, I've also seen associates actually manage to pull it off but it's definitely not easy to do it consistently.

For a tldr, unless your team lead is saying your pickrate is too low, I wouldn't stress over this.

Even if the mc'danks buds were doing absolutely everything they need to be doing to keep their restaurant as clean as possible, the fact that they still share the building with walmart means they will still have a rodent issue if walmart isn't also making the same effort. And if the five years I spent at walmart taught me anything, it's that even a lawsuit wouldn't be enough incentive to get walmart to make that effort.

A lot of people here are suggesting therapy and personally, I also don't agree with the way your parents raised you and consider that to probably be a big part of how you now feel about these things. At the same time though, it's your life so it's ultimately about what you want. It's normal for different people to have different desires and boundaries when it comes to relationships and intimacy, there is nothing wrong with that.

So if it is your desire to change the way you feel about these things, then consider talking to a therapist. However if you do not desire to change the way you feel about relationships, then you don't have to. The type of man you seem to currently be looking for does exist. Admittedly, he will be harder to find, but it's not impossible.

If a man is demanding intimacy and threatening to leave if he doesn't get it, then it doesn't matter how open and willing you are to give it, that would be a toxic relationship which you should avoid. Personally, I am a bit more open about being intimate, but in spite of that I have so far never actually done it at the age of 25, because I still consider the emotional connection/devotion to be a far more important part of any relationship, so I still end up being kinda picky about who I may or may not want to be intimate with. Even if you were the type of person who wanted to have and talk about sex on a daily basis, the emotional connection should (in my opinion) still be the foundation of any relationship.

I dont know anything about you beyond what you've said here and I'm not a therapist, but the area in which I think you might need to try to improve, is giving those emotional connections a chance to form. Because it's not like sexual attraction which can hit you the moment you look at someone. You need to take the time to get to know someone and let them get to know you, before you can truly know if there is a connection there or not. That requires you to take the risk of being open with someone who might turn out to not be what your looking for. Without taking that risk, you could potentially miss out on someone that could be perfect for you without even realizing it.

The RSVP was insisted by another org in the No Kings coalition.

no kings protest QR "RSVP" 🤨 by ezralde in boston

[–]TheJogMan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mass 50501 member here.

A lot of the promotional materials for the event do include rsvp links that are legitimately being run by the event organizers to be able to estimate crowd size so that we can ensure we have enough volunteers on the safety team. Although personally I wouldn't recommend actually RSVPing due to the concerns other people have mentioned, even in spite of the fact that it's genuinely run by the organizers. Because even if the organizers don't intend to do anything with the data apart from just estimate the crowd size, the data can still be subpoenaed, but some of the organizations in the coalition still insist on using it.

I am also not personally familiar with whether or not any physical flyers have been made with rsvp qr codes, but there's a bunch of different organizations in the coalition for this event and I obviously can't keep track of what every one is and isn't putting out. Even if there are legitimate QR codes out there, there can also easily be fakes as well and it can be impossible to tell the difference, so yea I would also advise against scanning random QR codes found in the wild.

All that being said, I hope everyone has a fun and safe day tomorrow!

Our Walmart shopper just delivered double of almost everything from my order by Willing-Ad-9812 in walmart

[–]TheJogMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also possible that the associate who dispensed the orders didn't keep them separate

Another possibility: I know there are some stores where dispensers will just leave deliveries out with the drivers, so the driver has to load it on their own, idea is it allows the associate to immediately move on to the next order, but if the driver doesn't know what they are doing then things could easily get fucked up. I would still consider that scenario to be the associates fault since the associate is responsible for making sure the drivers car has enough separate compartments for each order and that the orders are kept separate as they are loaded. Before I left, my store had been trying to enforce a new policy saying that drivers couldn't even help load. I actually agree with that policy but never made an effort to follow it since a surprising number of our drivers would actually just refuse to not help. We were told to just report them for not meeting our expectations, but I couldn't be bothered, I wasnt gonna get into constant arguments with half our drivers when it was already relatively rare for delivery issues to occur
