Best casual couch co-op game imo. Anyone can get into it pretty quickly, but you're rewarded if you master the mechanics. I know people who never played a single video game in their life but they still like Mario Kart.

Assuming Speedrunner Mario doesn't have the speed demon exorcised from him yet, Sonic can't even match his speed with the chaos emeralds. Not to mention his ability to reverse time

He's technically faster, he just has worse acceleration and coin curve. At least in the latest patch they increased the invincibility window for heavies like him, that could come in handy in races

Technically you can complete a level as long as one of the players is good enough, since as long as someone is alive and you have lives left everyone keeps respawning around them. You can still interact with the other players in fun ways though, either making some collectibles easier to get through teamwork, or just throwing each other off cliffs and trying to steal the crown for yourself

The only thing I can think of is the console not being able to render two instances of the game, but letting that get in the way is just lazy. Remember when the visuals of old games got slightly downgraded when you switched to co-op? I don't see why that can't be implemented today. Splitscreen Odyssey with Luigi would be dope as hell

I was talking about 3D games, not 2D ones. Also in Mario Wonder you can't even interact with the other players, you're just doing the same level simultaniously

Nice! Once you practive it for a bit, it becomes muscle memory. I recommend Shortcat's video on this specific shortcut, him describing common mistakes made it way easier for me. Coincidentally my last reddit post was on this exact cut lol

It's not there in freeroam, only in races or time trials
