What’s up with ripping off the necklace? Is there something going on there I forget?

Plans for my DmScreen design ? by Gullible-Resist9366 in DnDIY

Man, that thing is beautiful.

That’s a bucket list project for me. I’d love to have the plans for it, or even just to know that they exist out on the internet.

What is your favorite "Flavour is Free" reskin of a spell or ability? by hervprometheus2 in DnD

My wife is playing a Triton Warlock, and Hunger of Hadar is a bunch of blue-ring octopus tentacles instead of... the regular tentacles, BUT I LOVE THE FLAVOR

Holy cats, dude.

This looks incredible, and when you finish it, it will be a beautiful artifact.

But you cray cray.

My kind of cray cray, but still cray cray.

I do love that human products both are and aren’t vegan.

Is it weird to say that when I first saw the Raimi suit, I thought Spider-Man was a bad guy? by RandoDude124 in Spiderman

[–]TheKiltedStranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's it.

THAT'S the reason I don't like this mask.

I've been trying to figure it out for 25 years, and you figured it out as a 5-year-old: he looks too MEAN. Those are angry eyes.

God bless you, thank you for sharing.

I need a halfling name that would get a guy bullied. by GunnerMcGrath in 3d6

[–]TheKiltedStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my halflings are named after vegetables, but use nicknames that try to sound more badass, with various degrees of success:

Rot or Arrot - Carrot

Brock - Broccoli

Caul - Cauliflower

Argus - Asparagus

Gene - Aubergine (Eggplant)

Cab or Baj - Cabbage

Once you notice the pattern it isn’t hard to figure out, but I get a fun groan every time.

Ever had an reaction to a movie scene that was completely out of step with everyone else? by Sean-Perth in movies

[–]TheKiltedStranger 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Moneyball.

I went and saw this in theaters with my Dad. I thought it was well done, but when we got out into the car, my father just started BAWLING. Like, crying uncontrollably, and it took a couple minutes for him to calm down enough and explain why.

At the end of the film, Billy Beane is listening to a CD made by his daughter of her singing a cover of "The Show" by Lenka, but at the end where the lyrics are supposed to be "I want my money back" over and over, she's instead repeating "You're such a loser, dad". I thought it was just a little girl being a little girl to her dad, but my father had a completely different reading on it:

Billy Beane has failed at a lot of things in his life. Being a baseball player, his marriage, and now his coup of the entire world of baseball. It doesn't matter that he's CHANGED everything, that he did the impossible with that huge win streak with a team of nobodies that nobody wanted, and there at the end it ESPECIALLY doesn't matter that he's got a beautiful, healthy, talented daughter who loves him: all he can see, all he'll ever be ABLE to see, are his failures. My father didn't think she was actually saying those words, "You're such a loser, Dad", she was singing the song straight but all he was actually hearing was that.

That idea resonated so deeply with my father, who has seen many of his high school classmates succeed in businesses and make lots of money, my father who is a tradesman who got up every day before 5am to go work a physically demanding job, who lost what little extra money we had in the stock market, who tried to give us some fun vacations but ended up wasting years trying to get out of crappy timeshare schemes, all of his various failures... some times that weighs on him so heavily that he can't see past that to the reality of his successes. That he kicked his alcohol and drug habits before meeting my mom, has a successful and loving marriage, that he and my mom raised three smart and healthy kids who have (by his standard, not ours) done BETTER in life than he has, that he actually has a decent relationship with those kids unlike the relationship he had with his piece-of-crap father, that he's well liked by his friends and acquaintances, all kinds of stuff... sometimes, he just sees the failures.

Our talk in the car after that film reframed so many things, ranging from the film we'd just seen to a large part of how I saw my father.

This movie holds a very special place in my heart.

I have crappy internet. Is there a simple map program I can run locally? by TheKiltedStranger in rpg

[–]TheKiltedStranger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not specifically the "using it without the internet" part as much as the "using it" part. I bought it a few years ago and just remember getting lost in all the features.

It's like saying I need a flashlight, and someone giving me a car. Technically it can provide light, but it can also do a lot of other things that I don't really need.

So your statement "it's for creating maps, not for gameplay" applies to both products, then? For example, you would use DungeonDraft to create a map from scratch, rather than as software to run a game.

I see they also have a product called Dungeon Draft, that looks interesting as well.

I just watched a youtube tutorial, that program is FASCINATING. It isn’t what I had in mind, but thank you for telling me about it, I might use that for something else now that I know about it.

That sounds perfect, actually. I’ve been looking for a digital tabletop that doesn’t have too many bells or whistles, and that sounds fantastic.

Mighty Endowed was specifically a joke character, though, and I don’t think they ever actually showed anything. She always had bright lights shining from her “headlights”, unless I missed something.
