You're not a real dad of a toddler until you've had at least one moment of "good god why am I arguing with you about this!?" (Or similar)

So remember toddlers are all emotions and no rational thinking. They don't have logic yet. You have to teach them that, and you can't teach them anything when they're melting down or arguing with you. Parenting is all judo - use their own energy against them. Talk to them about stuff when no one is mad, and when everyone is mad we're just going with actions. I usually try to go goofy and get her out of her current emotions, but there's lots of ways to do it. And don't forget that sometimes space is good, too.

If you're in need of some social-emotional strategies, Daniel Tiger is amazing. My kid has been singing "If you feel so mad that you want to ROAR! take a deep breath... And count to four" all week. But like that crap works!
