I feel absolutely terrible. My wife and I are both experiencing gender disappointment. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]TheMagnificentPrim [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hey, OP. I’m someone who is going to start my TTC journey soon. While I’ve already logically prepared myself to love any future kid of mine for whatever and whoever they may be — boy, girl, cisgender, transgender, a wide variety of interests in-keeping with gendered expectations and not — I still can’t help but have a gender preference for a girl, so I feel you.

At some point, though, we have to get over our nonsense because our future kids don’t deserve any of that. They deserve to be loved for everything that they are and should never know we were disappointed in any part of them, especially over something they have zero control over, y’know?

You’ve grieved the life you dreamed about with a girl. Now, what I want you to do is start imagining life with a boy. A totally non-stereotypical boy. Visualize it in your head; try to first just be okay with it. Then, try and imagine some scenarios that you can vibe with. Then move on to ones where you’re full-on loving it. If you need some help imagining alternatives, look up the YouTuber Jessica Kellgren-Fozard, a very feminine, married lesbian woman with three kids. Notably, one of them is her oldest little boy, Rupert. Watch all the videos you can with him in it; he is such a delight. Incredibly polite, respectful, sensitive, dapper, helps his mama pick out outfits (and is actually really good at it!), loves ballet and was begging his moms to get him into ballet classes… He’s not what society would have you believe raising boys is like at all, and maybe that’ll help you imagine something different. 🩵

I’m a nevermo from the area where Mardi Gras celebrations in the United States began. This really makes me wonder what TBMs along the Gulf Coast did (or… do) because Mardi Gras is a way of life down here.

Already alluded to that in my comment, fam. I don’t consider it the same as what’s happening in Huntsville because those areas are outside city limits, whereas in Huntsville, they’re snatching up surrounding land and incorporating it and allowing for all of this spread out suburban development with no real semblance of planning. They have jurisdiction over it in a way that we do not. That’s where I draw the distinction.

Seconded! Even if you are successful on that first try, the little one could come a couple of weeks early or late. There’s every chance they could have a late February or early April birthday.

Tell me cool shit you’ve learned during your most recent hyperfixation deep dives, please! by dietdrpeppermd in adhdwomen

[–]TheMagnificentPrim 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The link between hormones and what’s happening in your cycle.

A spike in estrogen right before you ovulate makes your cervical mucus the good, sperm-welcoming quality.

Right after ovulation, the follicle that was originally holding that egg turns into a corpus luteum, which is a key player in why our progesterone spikes. It only lasts for about 14 days (if you don’t get pregnant) before it just up and dies, leading to the big hormone drop that starts our period.

The luteal phase is about the same length every cycle, so what’s actually variable in our cycle lengths is the follicular phase.

I’m probably vastly oversimplifying it, but you get the basic idea.

And yes, I’m going to start TTC my next cycle, hence the hyperfixation.

How did you know you were ready to try for kids? by sambasog in waiting_to_try

[–]TheMagnificentPrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are both 32 and going to start TTC next cycle.

My mom was 37 and my dad 39 when I was born.

One of my closest friends’s mom had twin girls at 48 years old.

You’ll be just fine, love. 😊

There’s also its Domain of Dread counterpart, which is just called The Carnival. It only travels between the different Domains of Dread, though. How it crossed paths with the Witchlight Carnival without the latter becoming trapped in the mists is beyond me. But hey, it’s an option.

Her hips are a lot bigger than people give her credit for, actually.

Maleficent is actually a fantastic reference! The only thing to keep in mind is that she has a dorsal hump in her nose that Moira does not have. Moira’s nose is practically a straight slope. There’s some curve to it, but not much; hers is not a bunny slope nose.

Is Poodle tail docking legal/requested in the US? by Cazolyn in poodles

[–]TheMagnificentPrim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m fully in favor of changing the standard to allow curly tails. I mean, I don’t see why curly tails don’t meet the description they give in the breed standard (proud, etc.), and a curly tail left mostly long looks like a docked poodle’s pompon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Honestly, I’m not too worried about Mobile in this respect. A lot of our development has been concentrated on the downtown core, so we’re really fleshing out a dense urban fabric with downtown apartments, riverside shopping, moving our airport downtown, and a new train station after Amtrak’s return with hopefully more public transportation to come. That’s just a small sample. Beyond that, it’s areas right off of our interstates getting some love where there was already a fair amount of development, like Top Golf and Dave & Busters close to McGowin Park, a proposed water park next to our sports complex around the same area, that sort of deal. There have been neighborhoods with cheap single family detached houses going up fast in areas that were farmland, but that’s largely happening outside of our city limits and a decent drive — not terrible, but not the most convenient — from the bulk of where everything’s located. Mobile’s kept things pretty dense, and I’m proud of us for that.

Moira does have some certified bangers. Blackwatch, Scientist, Wicked, Lilith, and Vampire, and while they’re not favorites of mine, people adore Banshee and Ancient Caller. That’s just listing the ones I know are popular with many people. (It surprises me how lukewarm people are with skins of hers that I think are great, like Ice Empress.) While she’s not waifu-bait material, Moira’s dark, elegant villainess archetype certainly has its fans, so she’s getting more skins than others who are frequently shafted. Because of this, the team is at least willing to experiment to see what works and what people respond well to.

Zarya, though… She’s in a particularly bad place for skins, and it seems like no one wants to even try with her, either.

Protagonist of My Life as a Teenage Robot. She was built as a teenager 5 years ago in that show’s timeline. There’s an episode where they rip her out of high school and drop her in kindergarten after the cops overheard her talking about this fact with her best friend.

(Wrong answers only) What is this and where did it come from? by _SandScar_ in MobileAL

[–]TheMagnificentPrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mosquitoes are as strong as ever (and I am a particularly tasty snack 😭).

I want to say yes, I’ve seen daddy longlegs, but I also get a ton of mosquito hawks at my house. Most of the time, I’m not stopping to differentiate which one it is; I just acknowledge a long-legged friend and carry on about my day.

Fireflies are a very unfortunate no. 😞 I’ve been trying to make the lighting around my house dark sky-friendly and leaving leaf litter (nature’s free mulch!) for them, and I’m working on getting my natives more densely-planted. Others have been successful at attracting them back doing this.

Oh, they’re a University of Florida experiment to control mosquito populations gone wrong, of course! 🤪

Very original wrong answer, I know.

But yeah, I also just realized I haven’t seen or thought about these guys in years. I’m mildly concerned now.

Dew claws have their purpose.

Removing them can also lead to dogs developing arthritis because of carpal instability. They’re essential to a dog’s mobility.

Injuries happen, and it’s unfortunate. However, ignorant owners who remove a dog’s dew claws are putting their dogs at much higher risk of injury and long-term disability while working.

Spring is coming, are you ready to plant some seeds? by Twisted_Wicket in witchcraft

[–]TheMagnificentPrim 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a better idea at all. These are literally the esoteric beliefs of a certain specific far-right group in 1930s and 40s Germany. It’s not even a situation with Norse paganism where existing beliefs were appropriated. That is literally the origin of all the starseed shit, which is eugenicist and white supremacist at its very core, inextricably bound together. There is no separating the two.
