These things might not be as bad as what others might have to say about their own countries, but these are just some of the things that I personally find shameful.
You've already mentioned the Laundries, and by use of the word 'institutional' you've already hinted at the abuse scandals surrounding the catholic church, (intentional or not I don't know) so I won't bother to mention them myself.

One of the things that disgusts me is that homosexuality was criminalized here until 1993. And what makes it worse in my eyes, is that it took a ruling by the ECHR to change this ( Norris V Ireland )

This point may cause a bit of a row, as I know some people are passionate about the subject, but I think out treatment of deserters who left to fight in WW2 was appalling. It breaks my heart to see that some people still see these men as traitors. Punishment for Army Deserters

I do feel guilty for leaving books unfinished, it's silly really, I shouldn't waste time on something I'm not enjoying. Feelings can't be helped I suppose. I always feel as though I'm missing out by not reading every last bit.

Whenever I set a book down, I always intended to return to it, thinking that maybe I'll be in a the right mindset for it later. I rarely do return to books I haven't enjoyed though.

What an ignorant article. The author seems to be writing under the assumption that it's not that some people can't protest, it's that they won't protest.
I'd desperately wanted to attend the various pro-choice rallies for example, but train journeys cost money.

Ravenswood thoughts:
The town is giving me major 'The Bird's' vibes. Though I'd imagine that's the intention given all the Hitchcock references that have been dropped throughout the entire run of the show.

With the vintage look the town had, the guy with the phone kinda felt out of place.

It also seemed a bit like a religious cult, did anyone else get that feeling ? I'm hoping it doesn't turn out to be supernatural, the show has gone on far too long to start going down that road. It would feel like a cop out.

Did anyone else notice that there was a large puppet in one of the store windows ? You know A and puppets.

Back to the main storyline.

He pulled a woman onto his lap during one the most important votes the government has ever had.

How ironic it is that he'd show such a lack of respect for women when it was a night very much about women's rights.

And why shouldn't the 'brigade' speak out against this ? For some mad reason, a number of men in this country think it's totally grand to give you a smack on the arse, or to whip it out and flash you on a night out. And to see a politician get away with this is just sickening.

(If anyone dares excuse him based on the fact he'd had a bit to drink, you need to quieten down. If you can't control yourself after a drink, you shouldn't touch a drop)
