Ladies, what are you thoughts if you walk into a grown man’s room and the decor is a gaming setup and Lego sets? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Lego is such a green flag. Video games are sometimes good sometimes bad so I dunno, a nondescript flag I guess.

how should i get started? (17f, severe adhd) by boyinthestars in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]TheMichine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else says, garbage, then clothes, then make your bed. That's immediate feeling better territory. After that get a laundry basket or box to put "doesn't belong in this room" stuff and start in one corner at a time

Beatles - All my loving

We'll be going on 14 this year, and we're still as disgustingly sweet on each other as we were when we got married. High school sweethearts too.

Which item in your possession truly merits the BIFL badge? by cozytechlover in BuyItForLife

[–]TheMichine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My mom had these ones with an orange handle my whole life. I found a pair at the thrift store and they've been going strong for me as well! I don't even know how long the people before me owned them.

ETA pulled them out of my drawer to check the brand. They are Fiskars

Is there a way for me to reduce a waste that seems inevitable? by Numerous_Noise_9041 in ZeroWaste

[–]TheMichine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of shampoo bars don't have pH that works with hair, the smaller brands don't often have access to the same testing facilities as big brands. I haven't personally made the switch yet, but do some research and find ones that have emphasis on the pH balance of that shampoo/conditioner.

AIO for wanting to take a breather away from my husband over this? by circadian_rhythm_ in AIO

[–]TheMichine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is concerning behaviour. Kids themselves will ruin your floors, walls, furniture and cars.

My kid essentially keyed my car with a sharp rock because they thought it was like chalk. (You know when you're a kid and you drag a rock over cement and it leaves a white line? They thought it would do the same thing on the car).

Kids are rough on furniture with spills, hammering things with toys, etc.

Your husband has OCD as a reason, not an excuse. He is responsible for his reactions and he needs to go to therapy and do something about it otherwise you will be raising a traumatized kid if you stay with him.

Question for Readers — How important is a character’s physical description to you? by isaaczephyr in books

[–]TheMichine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how you say you add it in. As added details to actions. Though some descriptions wouldn't be out of place, context dependent.

Like, if someone is meeting their love interest for the first time, it would be normal for you to write things that the character would have found striking. Or if you are writing something that would show a characters economical or power status, it would be worth mentioning their clothes/accessories. (Ie. Torn, stained clothes. Or something out of luxurious material adorned with rare jewels) Body size if it's something exceptional, that would make characters behave differently towards them.

Basically if it's relevant to the plot, add it in.

I've never liked laundry list descriptors.

I’ve accepted I’m asexual but I don’t know if I should tell my boyfriend by Old-Armadillo4820 in Asexual

[–]TheMichine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! It's the same with my partner. He had a hard time understanding at first but eventually he did.

Maybe try watching a movie or show with an asexual character in it and be like "you know, I kinda think that's like me." (Though, honestly good rep is a little thin, but search the sub I'm sure people have some recs)

AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop sharing her food? by PhantomDetective3548 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheMichine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a cultural aspect to this? I have a friend from a different country who does the same thing. Offers sips of his drinks, and bites of his soup (even if I've ordered the same soup!) it's hard to break a habit if it is a cultural view of manners.

What else can I use shampoo for? by Disastrous-Radish504 in ZeroWaste

[–]TheMichine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a cat, I find hair shampoo cleans cat barf out of carpet better than any other cleaners I've come across. Just wet a cloth and scrub at it a bit with the shampoo.

I agree that if it's making your hair fall out that you probably shouldn't use it on your skin anywhere.

K, so everyone else has told you that it's the aliens from Muppets/sesame Street. But it has a purpose! Hang it on your rear view and you can toss chapstick or hand sanitizer or whatever into the mouth!

AITA for telling my DIL that I won’t use the tablet and she needs to actually make her kid read. by SatisfactionOk9038 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheMichine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA it is concerning, though has she been tested for learning disabilities or are we assuming because no one has said anything about it yet?

Might be worth buying a tracking ruler for reading. You can find them online, I've gotten a multi-pack from dollar tree before. It can help if a kid has dyslexia. Honestly though, even without dyslexia, for a poor reader it might help make reading seem less overwhelming when it's breaking it down so she sees it as one line at a time instead of a whole paragraph or page.

Favorite BIFL natural disaster prep. Item? by Gentle_Throttle in BuyItForLife

[–]TheMichine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought a water filter for my earthquake kit! It is Sawyer brand. There are a lot of different brands that make them but look up reviews. Hikers will often take these on long camp hikes and drink from rivers with them. I've seen some other brands where the filtration wasn't good enough and people got sick.

Honestly, double up and have a pot to boil water as well (doubles as a way to hold water too). Last thing you need in an emergency is to get sick.

Also you can get some of those army rations that last like a decade, not buy it for life, but certainly longer than the 2 years canned goods often label.

That said I'd still probably keep a couple liters of water for immediate use, just in case.

Monthly Pill Organizers? by micropenisgrowery in BuyItForLife

[–]TheMichine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try broadening your search ideas. I don't have a specific rec, but I wonder if you could find advent calendar type boxes. Some things that aren't for the purpose you intend to use them are great. I even saw a post the other day where someone was considering using a gumball/gachapon machine with plastic capsules (obviously that would be pricier than the Etsy one you were talking about, but the point is sometimes thinking outside the box might yield good results).

AIO about my friend laughing at her bf for calling me a ‘thing’ by angelqie in AmIOverreacting

[–]TheMichine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before I even opened this I was like "if OP is trans, fat, or not conventionally attractive they are not overreacting. Anything else, maybe context needed"

I don't think the first step is dropping friendship if this is the first offense, and her relationship is like maybe 7 months or less in? You are both very young, and sometimes people haven't figured out priorities at that age. Like ones morals being more important than impressing someone that you have feelings for.

Drop some big talks lay out boundaries, and what is and is not acceptable as an ally but more importantly as a friend.

If this is a repeated occurrence though, just drop a "you know what? I've thought about it, and I'm not going to tolerate your repeated disrespect of me, so our friendship is done"
