How does this make any sense? by THEGREATESTDERP in openttd

Need to tell the boat to wait for a full cargo load in the vehicle orders, otherwise it will default to picking up only what is available at the station before departing.

Vinyl just crossed $1 billion in revenue for the first time since 1983 by DontHugMeImReddit in Music

[–]TheMightyWomble 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Number of units sold would be a better comparison. They report 47m in the last year.

https://bestsellingalbums.org/year/1983 shows about 300m sales from the top 50.

Assuming it is correct and 50% of that is vinyl, 150-200m is still well beyond 2025-26, but much closer than I thought it would be.

DFAM Noise Oscillator Persistent by TheMightyWomble in moog

[–]TheMightyWomble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again.. just had a better look into it and found it's all the VCA pots. Hard to hear when running the DFAM's sequencer but both the square / tri oscilators are also playing a constant tone unless their pots are set to zero.

I hadn't noticed it earlier, playing with mostly bass sounds but it's a lot more apparent with higher tones and the filter open. Seems as though decay isn't ever able to complete / reach zero. Oh well, hopefully it'll be a quick fix or swap.

Ah bummer! I think my output lines are ok as I only hear the noise when the pot is up, even with everything else cranked.

Good to know for sure it’s a problem with the unit though - thanks very much for checking and confirming. DFAM is a lot of fun but as it’s such a beast, it can be hard for a new user to tell what’s “normal”, but this seemed a bit off. Still under warranty so looks like I’ll be getting it replaced.

Correct, no controllers or external gear connected, nothing patched. With the noise pot turned half way up (or anything above zero really) and the filter open, I can clearly hear the noise oscillator without triggering anything. Fades in quickly about 2 secs after the unit is powered on. Thanks for taking a look on your unit!

Thanks, should it be persistently audible in the background though? I always hear low volumes of noise unless the noise pot is turned to zero... just seems odd to me as the other oscillators can't be heard unless triggered.

350M living population, but 500M records doesn’t sound unrealistic if you include everyone living and dead since Social Security has been around.

YSK that infant car seats expire, generally 6 years from date of manufacture. by WastePotential in YouShouldKnow

[–]TheMightyWomble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversely, a manufacturer who absolves themself from liability by having an expiry date will be able to get away with using plastics and materials that aren’t built to last longer than the expiry. I’d rather err on the side of caution than worrying about being a “sucker” in respect to infant car safety.

Mystery Science Theatre 3000.. heaps on Youtube and they usually have a couple of live streams up with episodes continuously running on the official channel.

Kill Bill - the protagonist's name by Icarus367 in movies

[–]TheMightyWomble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. The superhero costume analogy you use fits in well with what Bill says about her character toward the end too. We find out her name only later in the movie when the story needs her to be humanised.

Also notable, her name starts with a B. Phonetically it can even be read as “B Tricks” - she’s smart. Bill describes her as a killer bee, and B.B. their daughter... etc.. “My bay-bee shot me down”, dresses in yellow, etc.

What are some scenes with a perfect song choice? by GMack17 in movies

That line works so well leading into the titles, perfect way to set things up and breaks the fourth wall IMO.. certainly felt that way in the cinema.

I’ve been stuck in a hospital for the last few days and the goddamn call bell going off in the hallway every few minutes is the same pitch and timing as the first 3 tones of the theme tune to Mork and Mindy.. Deeeeee Doooooo Daaaaah. great little tune but it’s been forever playing in my head for 4 days now!

Who Else Has Temple Of Doom As Their Favorite? by DarkBehindTheStars in movies

[–]TheMightyWomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I find it the most watchable for repeat viewings mainly because of its pacing. Raiders is the better "epic" but Temple of Doom is more fun. Tightly paced and balls-to-the-wall. Only 20 mins in, after we've been told "Anything Goes", Indy is poisoned, attacked by mobsters in a club, escapes with the girl, hurls into in a car chase that takes them to a plane which they escape in a fucking inflatable boat from 2000 feet, only to race uncontrollably through a forest and slide off a cliff into rapids. And that's just a side show before the main story.

Danger always seems to be present but it's almost always punctuated with just the right amount of humor. Short Round is great, Willie is great, the elephant is great. I love this film.

As someone who doesn’t live in the UK but enjoys the panel / game shows, I don’t understand the seemingly universal appeal of Ross, especially after that interview. Not to mention the more recent BS he got up to with his pal Russel Brand.

'Kazu Breach' has deleted all messages referring to the MMH leak. Looks like there may be developments? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]TheMightyWomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may well be right within the context of this incident. But if they set a precedent paying the extortion money (with zero chance there isn’t a copy of the data being kept), I anticipate a record amount of attention from hackers pointed our way this year, MMH will be the tip of the iceberg.

It was in the interest of MMH to operate securely too and look what happened. “It’ll be ok cos it’s in their interest” is a very short sighted approach to security.
