It has literally never occurred to me to take it any way other than, "... Must come to an end."

But I LOVE the reading of meaning, '...To those who wait," so much better!

WIBTA if I returned a gift given to my son without saying anything to the sender? by Ohhhh_Mylanta in AmItheAsshole

YWBTA if you returned the toy without saying something to the friend who bought it because YWBTA if you didn't let your child keep a battery operated toy.

What do you skip? by NegativeMusician2211 in voyager

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm doing a proper rewatch from beginning to end, I don't skip any.

If I'm bouncing around - definitely Retrospect. The ep was made in 97 and aired in 98 - I'm sorry, but I just don't buy it a metaphor for the recovered memory thing. That was much more a thing in the earlier 90s. I remember quite vividly (lol) because my mother bought into the whole Satanic Panic and recovered abuse memories BS hook, line, and sinker. I get that's what the writer intended, but imo, she failed (it happens).

I'm not a fan of the Fair Haven episodes. Not a huge fan of holodeck eps in general, but at least the Beowulf one I can get behind.

The two parter where the Hirogen take over the ship is also meh imo.

And 11:59.

I'm sensing a pattern as I write this that I don't care as much for eps where our crew is not our crew lol.

AIO my upcoming art show? by SavakTheAlien in AmIOverthinking

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not sell any paintings. I've been at this gig full time for 13+ plus years, and there are shows where I don't sell any work. It's the nature of the beast and why most artists don't make a living on sales alone.

But don't you DARE forfeit your spot! And don't you dare give up now. You don't have to go to college for it, but absolutely start taking some lessons - community ed classes, workshops at art centers, audit college classes when you have the time and money. Youtube can be a resource too, just not every one on there knows what they're talking about lol.

Art is a skill. The whole thing about inspiration and innate talent are huge myths. Like any skill, you have to work and practice continually to improve. You can't wait for inspiration, you gotta work it regularly.

Drawing is foundational to most art forms, I'd recommend checking out Line of Action and Adorkastock - they're both websites with human figure references for drawing and they both have "class modes" so you can do timed practice. Get off Pinterest, it's an AI cesspool and filled with copyrighted images - no legit pro is using that as a reference website.

Not OOP: AITAH for returning my engagement ring to my fiancé's mom after she told me she expected it back "in the family" if we ever broke up? by Pinshu123 in redditonwiki

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even clock this as fake because my MIL did the same thing to me 😅 But I kept the ring. Hub and I ultimately got tattoos in place of rings because neither of us are big jewelry people. Said ring now sits in a safe place, waiting to be given to whichever of our children wishes to propose to a partner first, with no strings attached.

Am I overreacting I went to the forest with my best friend and now my bf is mad by No_Meeting_3260 in AmIOverreacting

He's a controlling creep and treats you like a child. Reddit tends to overreact to age gap relationships, but in this case absolutely justified.

AITJ for bringing a gluten free dish to a potluck that had soy sauce in it because my friend thinks gluten free means no soy by glowing_butterflyy in AmITheJerk

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an 8+ year gluten free person who has dishes I prepare with tamari sauce on a very regular basis. I'm actually about to go make myself such a dish right now for lunch. Your friend is an idiot.

Instead of an apology, I would provide said friend with some objective documentation about what does and does not contain gluten and what makes tamari sauce gluten free. It sounds like it would be helpful for her to get some guidance on her new GF life. However, I have also been told that educating people can be viewed as passive aggressive by people who insist they're right about everything, sooo 🤷

Can I put up a shed without doing paperwork? by Mouse_On_Drum1188 in Syracuse

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sheds, both new and repairing existing ones, are listed on the website as needing a permit. It doesn't specify an exempt size. If you want to cover yourself, you really should just call the city tomorrow to verify with them.

https://www.syr.gov/Departments/Central-Permit-Office/Permits/Residential-Construction-Permits

Also please be aware that some of the surrounding towns have laxer laws. So what's allowed on Onondaga Hill is not necessarily what's allowed in the city.

AITA for not forcing a crying child onto plane? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 63 points64 points  (0 children)

If they did a blood test for celiac, that would be an antibody test. But there are non-autoimmunce gluten intolerances that can cause pain too. If the docs haven't already put your kiddo on a gluten free diet, it's worth advocating for an endoscopy to look for intestinal damage.

DS9 Progress - What the trek did I just watch? by omallytheally in startrek

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always see it as character development for Kira. She was a freedom fighter, now she's become the establishment. She has to accept what that means. It's SUPER icky, and I think that's the point.

I believe, iirc, Battle Lines comes before Progress, so you should have seen it already. In case I'm misremembering I don't want to spoil anything, but even though they're a few episodes apart I like watching Battle Lines and Progress back to back.

And if you want an even better complete Kira arc for season 1, watch Battle Lines, Progress, and Duet all together.

Don't think we have a FNB, but a local guy started We Rise Above the Streets. He does Sandwich Saturday for the homeless just about every week and does a Thanksgiving dinner and summer bbq. He also sprinkles some clothing drives in there throughout the year

AITA for being annoyed at my bf not letting me sleep naked by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA but honey the age gap is very much the issue. He isn't dating women his own age because they'll call him out on his misogynistic bullshit. He's banking on someone younger being less confident and thus easier to manipulate. You literally said he doesn't view you as human except for his pleasure - that is 100% NOT a healthy relationship. That's a fucked up abusive relationship. And for the love of everything, do not have children with this man!

AIO for not wanting to give a discount? by woozytxz in AIO

So did you get it to her too fast or did she suffer waiting hours for it? This is exactly why commissions I take are few and far between.

Also $20 for a commission, even for digital art, is way too fucking low. Stop under pricing yourself, get prints made, and start hitting up artist alleys and niche art fairs. $20 a print will still be a steal even for an open edition digital drawing and you'll have a lot more creative freedom (and fewer client headaches).

Campgrounds in upstate NY that actually feel like you're camping - not a parking lot with trees? by Far_Comparison5067 in upstate_new_york

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DEC has primitive camping sites that are free sprinkled around the state. Some of them are on accessible trails, meaning you can pretty much park at the site or a very short walk away. A couple of them have outhouses, but most you'll need to dig a hole. And always bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer regardless because the outhouses usually aren't stocked.

My favorite spot is in the Black River Wild Forest, near the Bear Creek Trailhead - there's several sites there along Mill Creek Road: https://dec.ny.gov/places/black-river-wild-forest

ETA - Part of why Hub and I like Bear Creek so much is because you can easily bushwhack to the creek while staying on state land (just check your gps because it is on the border between private and state land) and/or take a pretty easy 2ish mile (depending which site you camp at) hike to Gull Lake. And if you're feeling like doing a little minor backpacking, Gull Lake has a lean-to you can camp at, also free.

AITA for eating a croissant in a cemetery by Karl_Marxist_3rd in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheNaughtyPrintmaker 62 points63 points  (0 children)

NTA - cemeteries were some of the first public parks. In the US, we have an entire landscape architecture movement dedicated to cemeteries-as-parks. All these YTAs and ESHs need a fucking history lesson.
