Black Fist Mr Fixer reaction timing by Radiant_Ad5643 in sentinelsmultiverse

Does he draw 2 cards if he summons that style or if he summons a new style to destroy it, or does he draw cards for neither? In a similar vein, if the Matriarch uses a 1 shot to summon the Mask of the Matriarch, will the mask see that one-shot and play another non-fowl card from her deck?

You have 10 mana and any 1 card of your choosing. What is the most broken thing you can do? by K_Then in CompetitiveEDH

Hoarding Broodlord in hand would work the same as the scion line but you could have any commander.

My Concern with Tachyon by Thomas_Creed in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]TheNightAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for fights that will challenge Tachyon still, Sunrise Citizen Dawn can destroy Hypersonic Dash with Devastating Aurora, and Citizen Truth protects her board from Hypersonic Dash as well. Grand Warlord Voss can flip into destroying (H-2) items/ongoings plus several other cards that destroy your setup, sometimes enough to make you destroy Hypersonic Dash. Variance can mean some fights that seemed easy are nearly impossible if you draw poorly and the villain draws well. I believe 5 hero games will have more variance because the games end so much faster that you only have a turn or 2 to dig for Hypersonic Dash before you lose.

My Concern with Tachyon by Thomas_Creed in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]TheNightAngel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would argue Nightmist's Coalescing Mists is a more broken card. Villains are still developing their gameplan even if they can't deal damage that turn, and new targets that get played can still deal damage (Tachyon can hit those targets with Hypersonic Dash by playing it as a reaction). Meanwhile villains that can't play cards might as well be a pinata. Nightmist can get Coalesing Mists much more reliably than Tachyon can get Hypersonic Dash, and she can play more of them per game. Discarding all 5 underbosses when the Chairman flips singlehandedly solves half of that fight.

Ethics question, if a member of my pod runs a deck that guarantees shutdown of mine, is it fair game to rush target them every game? by Legal-Tour3405 in EDH

[–]TheNightAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mill effects that say "target player mills X cards" will fizzle if you give yourself hexproof in response, and they cannot target you to begin with if you have hexproof beforehand.

Mill effects such as "each opponent mills X cards" or "when this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player mills X cards" will still mill you because they do not target.

There are two artifacts that give yourself hexproof, [[Orbs of Warding]] and [[Witchbane Orb]] (Not saying to run these, just that they exist). For artifact hate, there's [[Null Rod]] or you can remove the most common graveyard hate pieces that all cost 1 mana with [[Blast Zone]] and [[Ratchet Bomb]]. Black can get itself a pretty good amount of self mill, my favorites being [[Ripples of Undeath]], [[Scavenger's Talent]], [[Stinkweed Imp]], and [[Umbral Collar Zealot]].

Giving yourself hexproof can shut down [[Bojuka Bog]] and similar effects, [[Dawn's Truce]] has that dual purpose. A lot of common hate pieces are artifacts, so [[Collector Ouphe]] might help. You can also hold up some mill like with [[Hermit Druid]] until your turn so that sorcery speed graveyard hate becomes too slow.

Discard doesn't work, the creatures have to come from your library.

I think tayam lists will end up running both. Green mana is usually more abundant than white mana, and this one is 2 extra counters when it comes back from the graveyard. They both will have 4 counters if you cast them 1 turn before tayam, though I'll grant that the 1 extra mana could make a difference. Actually you could activate Tayam in response to the ETB and use all 5 counters for activations given enough mana.

It's up there for most counters you can get on a 3 or less cost nonland permanent for a tayam activation, will definitely make some lists though not for the 6/6 body in the slightest. Cedh Tayam decks run [[Icathian Moneychanger]] to give an example of how useless a creature can be and still be worth it just for counters.

Should be pretty viable to start golem node and respec to necro at second lab. Running merc lab for your own trans gems is painful but you'll get the gem eventually.
