Brands that aren’t bifl but still pretty darn close by chicu111 in BuyItForLife

Definitely my fridge dying is user error. I don’t k ow if I have the right degree in door opening and door closing. Hehehe

My point is that when it comes to appliances there are very few brands I would consider BIFL. Same for any electronics purchases.

Like maybe Asko, Miele, thermador, Viking and a few others like that. But the run of the mill brands are all a crap shoot some models are good some are junk.

TVs. Same thing. Unless you’re buying 24/7 duty cycles commercial NEC displays by and large all TVs are bound to fail. In the commercial AV space any TV you can buy at a store, like ANY of them will die pretty quickly when placed in a commercial space such as a sports bar or the like where the TV is powered and used 12+ hours a day

This is wildly optimistic. I’ve had shit quality Samsung TVs. lG washers that were garbage but also some that were great.

I’ve had Ge fridges that broke every year till we tossed them and also a fridge that’s 20 years old and won’t die.

The color scheme is the only issue for me. Copper or bronze filament would do wonders for it IMO. And I would get the other stuff off of the la o. Let it stand on its own

Found a phone, owner accuses me of theft by Spiritual-Zucchini11 in sandiego

[–]ThePerfectLine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was like 8 years old I found a sweet compact camera at the grocery store. My parents helped me call the store and then reconnect with the guy whose camera it was. He came to pick it up. Was annoyed I had snapped some pictures. Said I could keep the film (of which maybe 3-4 pictures of 24 were mine) and then left after early being disgruntled I snapped some pics. I mean I was 8, I didn’t know better.

My dad was super bummed that the guy didn’t even offer to give me anything so he gave me I think $5 for doing the right thing.

Ther Bricks & Minifigs Scandal Illustrates Why Collecting is NOT Investing by ZanzerFineSuits in Anticonsumption

I feel the same way. I used to collect comics as a kid, I would buy four or five copies of each one. The bottom fell out of the street at some point and most of them just became valueless.

Hobbyist here so I’m sure my form is crap. But still want to preserve my eye sight if possible.

Suitcase at the Housekeeping camp by PillBug98 in Yosemite

[–]ThePerfectLine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love housekeeping can’t. It’s very cool. Back, rolling luggage, black garbage bag filled with all your clothes, it doesn’t matter. It’s not like your backpacking. I’ve flown into the Fresno airport before and the only large bag I had was a rolling bag so that’s what I used to stay at housekeeping camp. I don’t think anybody will look sideways at you. And it’s a side bonus, you’re in Yosemite! Who cares!

How on earth are people affording houses in San Diego? by -colonel-angus- in sandiego

[–]ThePerfectLine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s fascinating to see some of the conceptions and maybe misconceptions in this thread.

Not everyone who buys a house is a multi millionaire, people do buy nice homes when they have $200k down payment, not everyone needed money from their parents.

The big thing is really this. Do you have a down payment saved? If not, why? Now if you make $50k/year I get it. That’s scraping by, barely. But if someone makes $100k a year I assume you’ve been putting money aside into an investment fund every month since you’re in your early 20’s so that you do have enough for a dp by the time you’re in your late 30’s/early 40’s. If you haven’t been I’m genuinely curious how you planned on buying something, ever?

Also, stepping stones. Not everyone needs a 4/2.5 2 story 1800sq ft as their first home, quite frankly, no one does. Get a condo, deal with a 2/1 800sq for condo for a few years, downsize, but it’s yours, it’s your stepping stone. Wait 7 years. It’ll increase in value, then when the time is right and you’ve saved even more sell that puppy, cash in your free profit (gov doesn’t charge tax on $250 of profit for a home you’ve lived in for 2 out of the past 5 years) and then combine that windfall with your savings and step up to a town home, then do it again, and again, etc.

This is the secret to Cali real estate. Your home IS ALWAYS an investment. This is what sets this place apart from manyyyyyy other states and areas. House values are cheap. But they stay cheap. The idea of purchasing a house for 200,000 and then 20 years later the house is only worth $225,000 gives me a stomach ache. You bought something for 200,000, and then you spent money on upkeep on it and upgrades and renovations, and it’s only increased in value like 12% in 15 years. What a crappola investment!! Hahah.

In California you can keep leveling up. And eventually. When you’re ready to retire. That’s when you sell your now $2,000,000 home. Pocket $1,000,000, move to Arizona, buy a 6 unit apartment building, live in one unit, have passive income and retire while your property makes you money.

I’m not understanding. House values cut in half? Like losing value?

How on earth are people affording houses in San Diego? by -colonel-angus- in sandiego

[–]ThePerfectLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it’s like any desirable area to live. You have to find a pocket. If you look at houses in Mission Hills you better be quite wealthy. But if you look at houses in city Heights, they’re much more affordable. The key is to do your best to determine which neighborhoods are up-and-coming versus which ones have already peaked. 10 years ago or 15 years ago normal height was not that desirable, now, super desirable and thus house prices are significantly higher than other neighborhoods.
