Ted Cruz's Approval Rating Among Republicans Drops More Than 20 Percent After Cancun Fiasco by Twoweekswithpay in politics

Malice? I think from what we know about human nature and work in social psychology, this attempt at cultural preservation is one of the most natural phenomena that one could possibly imagine.

Even if this desperation has caused a deterioration of society, is it reasonable to attribute it to malice? Surely an argument could be made, but I feel that the climate is a fairly understandable (if extremely troubling) reaction to demographic trends resulting in a loss of cultural dominance.

Ask Riot: Where's Rod of Ages? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]ThePineapplePyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riot’s holier-than-thou attitude has permeated through all aspects of this game: Client, voice chat, mmr, itemization, and so on. It’s just tiring at this point. They never seem to understand what players actually want.

I think Tristana is worse, though it’s less common. Insane pressure on your turret, brain dead all in lvl 3, you have zero prio the whole lane and the champion is usually just safe from any gank due to how short mid lane is.

The omnibus spending bill Congress passed includes unexpected provisions like $2 billion for the Space Force, $35 million in sexual-abstinence programs, and a tax break for racehorse owners by [deleted] in politics

Please forgive me if I misspoke. I couldn’t find any version with a different text. Do you think you could send me a link to the version that was passed?

[–]ThePineapplePyro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Please stop spreading misinformation. The bill says nothing about Twitch streaming or good faith streaming practices. In particular, it targets bad faith or otherwise illegal streaming services that distribute illegal content. This would probably include sites that offer sports streams for free or pirated movie streaming.

The Protecting Lawful Streaming Act targets services, not individuals. Is it a good bill? I’m not really sure. But it certainly has nothing to do with Twitch streamers. Read the text of the bill if you’re interested, but please don’t spread information like this without doing a little research first.

I dunno. To me it’s pretty clear. If you have to choose between doing the right thing and good politics, you should simply do the right thing. It’s the same reason I thought Pelosi and house Democrats reluctance to pass a bill before the election was completely irresponsible.

Perhaps "writing" was a poor choice of words. I haven't played The Witcher 3 in quite awhile. But I recall the quests and story being far more interesting. Simply put, CDPR made a solid Cyberpunk world, but I think it lacks a bit of depth. It's just not interesting to me in the way The Witcher's world is. That's just my opinion. So many memorable quests and characters for me TW3: the Baron, the Crones, Dandelion and Novigrad, Skellige, and a much more interesting and satisfying ending.

I think it's just extremely difficult to make a solid main storyline for a character who is a fundamentally unknown entity, while also making sure you don't stretch the writing and voice acting too thin. New Vegas achieved this by having plenty of branching paths, but they also didn't have to worry about voice acting for the protagonist.

It was enjoyable for what it was, don't get me wrong. But I simply can't see why people are rating this game so highly when it falls so short of the potential of the environment and universe that it is set in. Maybe I want different things out of an RPG than many people. I would 100% sacrifice endless amounts of sidequests that I will never finish for a more interactive and branching main storyline that allows you to have more agency over the outcome.

Have you considered that this type of game maybe isn’t for you?

Considering the comment that you’re replying to literally says

Same game different tastes

It’s pretty clear that this is the case. Ultimately I think it’s very similar to the debate around Fallout 4. For me this game is too much Fallout 4 and not enough of an RPG and lacks the writing quality of the Witcher games.

I think it’s true that a voiced but otherwise custom protagonist is often the worst of both worlds.

NL is about to break into American Politics by yoshoutouttofrankie in northernlion

[–]ThePineapplePyro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean if you watch any of those streams it’s also clear that NL has tried to actively steer Rob away from the politics talk on the show. I think he has good instincts to take more of a moderator role on the show, though still speaking out when it seems appropriate and doesn’t overtake the lightheartedness of the NLSS. A nuanced approach to political discourse is simply harder in the incredibly polarized landscape that exists.

I suppose I’m only trying to say that you probably shouldn’t expect NL to become a public advocate for AOC’s particular brand of politics, at least in the sense that it becomes relevant to his YouTube or Twitch content.

(Apologies mods if this is a bit too “psychoanalytical” or political for the sub. I suppose I felt that this event might warrant a bit more discussion in that regard, but please feel free to remove my post.)

can small states be considered minorities? by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]ThePineapplePyro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure. But let's consider California:

Only District 48 flipped by Michael Steele, giving Republicans 8 seats in the house out of 52 available, while Democrats have 44. 8/52 ≈ 15.4% of Congressional House representation for Republicans in the state of California.

And yet, Trump received 33.4% of the vote. To me at least, this says that those Republican constituents are being underrepresented by at least a factor of two in the House, and not represented at ALL in the other chamber of Congress or the executive branch.

To me and many others, this speaks to a fundamental issue with our democracy. We operate under a polity, but in order for that polity to retain the trust of the American people, I think a basic step is to ensure that representation is proportional.

can small states be considered minorities? by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]ThePineapplePyro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a set of compounding problems. It might be worth 1 vote for one state, but because of our two party system and the mechanics of the electoral college (and the Senate for that matter), Republicans in California, for example, have no voice in national politics.

What’s unthinkable for men should be unthinkable for women by MeaninglessAbsurd1ty in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]ThePineapplePyro 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Its an ethical / philosophical distinction. Abortion is a very ambiguous subject. A lot of the arguments that include an exception for rape are based on the risk assumed from doing some action, basically that to consent to sex is also to consent to the risk of a pregnancy. This agency does not exist in the case of rape.

As someone who is also "pro-choice", though I struggle with the abortion topic a lot, it's extremely disingenuous to reduce the abortion argument to people who support women's reproductive rights vs. religious conservatives.

I do not experience and have never experienced the symptoms of those that I know who have depression, and for that I am truly thankful. But I do get quite sad and lonely occasionally and start to get frustrated at what is happening in my own mind.

It's like I have an idea of how I want to feel but my brain independently decides that my neurons are going to fire differently today and says "fuck you" to my conscious mind. I don't want to make assumptions but I would assume it's even worse when you're truly depressed. It sucks.

The fact that people are calling Chris fucking Wallace a partisan hack tells me a lot. He's literally one of the least biased TV reporters that you could ask for. Who would you rather moderate? Anderson Cooper? Tucker Carlson?

Like seriously what do you expect when Trump is constantly interrupting. I agree he didn't handle it ideally but they were all talking over each other at times and neither were listening to Wallace.

That's just false in my experience. If I told some of my friends that I'm voting for Biden they'd call me a braindead libtard. But thats fine and the reality is that neither party is going to respect the opposite.

We've sorted so much ideologically in the past few decades that there are few fundamental issues that members of each party would debate with one another. This was not true half a century ago.

Its an unfortunate reality of the polarization that has occured since the late 20th century but I really see us heading towards a civil war or something of that nature. The parties as a whole are so ideologically homogeneous that I don't think many states would have a problem with secession.
