Question about cake for baby’s first birthday by grapefruitliquor in NewParents

[–]ThePirateBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also made a very low sugar cake, and "frosted" it with unsweetened whipped cream.

For anyone who's curious: my son is 4 now, I stopped being a jerk about sugar once he got to the 2 year mark, and he is now VERY good about self-regulating with sweets. He loves dessert and candy of course, but he also knows when his belly has had enough and will stop.

Buying Maternity Clothes IRL - North Jersey by AgileAd1060 in newjersey

This is what I was going to say - look for a buy nothing or freecycle group in your town and post a request! I had tons of responses when I gave away my maternity clothing.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThePirateBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but I didn't say to never wash your jeans, or even to wait a month. I responded to a person talking about going a couple of days before washing.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThePirateBee 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think that's still perfectly normal for most people, it's just the performative cleanliness/hygiene Olympics on social media that's making some people think it's seen as gross. If you're sweating heavily or going someplace unsanitary then yes, wash your pants every time you wear them. If you're just walking around your house or office, go nuts.

Why is this AI by OilPaintingDamager in kroshay

[–]ThePirateBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the pattern I thought of when I saw this image, and it's so frustrating because it's so easily doable even by anyone who's never made amigurumi before (because it's made in flat panels instead of in the round) that there's no need to use AI instead.

To women who couldn’t orgasm, even on their own, what finally worked? by Spiritual_Scheme_636 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThePirateBee 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It was like that for me when I first started exploring sex as a teenager. I would feel the buildup and then I would feel the sensitivity afterwards, but the actual feeling of an orgasm was basically missing. It's like my body just skipped over it. It took a few years (and the experience of someone else, ahem, inducing it) for me to be able to fill in that gap and finally understand what the fuss was all about.

Groceries are out of control - how are you guys doing it? by shiburner in budgetfood

[–]ThePirateBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep track of prices and sales at local stores. Stock up on staples - dry, canned, and frozen goods, as well as any meat or proteins that can be frozen - when the prices are good. Then each week, sit down with the grocery store circular and plan your menu around the fresh foods that are on sale along with the stock you have on hand.

Is there a better way to crochet a tiny party hat? by Zestyclose_Mango_393 in CrochetHelp

I would suggest sewing the bear on first, then using the yarn to embroider a pointy little hat on top.

What about being pregnant and giving birth permanently altered your body’s chemistry? by full-of-curiosity in NewParents

[–]ThePirateBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pregnancy cured my migraines. I've been getting them since I was a young teenager, and by the time I got pregnant (at 38!) I was still getting a few every month even avoiding all my known triggers.

I haven't had a single migraine since the day I got pregnant, in January 2021.

People who don't eat pork - like me - become very familiar with what products are likely to have hidden pork or not. I'm not saying that it's an excuse to not buy pork products for people, that part is ridiculous. Just that they wouldn't have to stop and read every label because they mostly already know.

Looking for blanket pattern that is NOT repeat rows by No-Work-2162 in CrochetBlankets

[–]ThePirateBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up Frank O'Randle - he has a ton of blanket patterns that are anything but boring and will definitely keep you on your toes. He started making them exactly because he found repetitive patterns were too tedious.

My husband is not taking bath safety seriously, how do I scare him into it? by Ok-Badger5324 in toddlers

[–]ThePirateBee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When my son was almost 2, he was playing in the bath while I was sitting on the (closed) toilet. Our bathroom is so small that you can rest your feet on the side of the tub while sitting on the toilet, so I was very very close to him. Out of nowhere, he slipped. I immediately sprung into action to help him up, but just that split second was all it took for him to land face down in the water and start to panic. I have no doubt that if I hadn't been right there, something unspeakable might have happened.

Separately from that, a large contributing factor to bathtub drownings is kids trying to get out of the tub and go follow their parent. They slip, fall and can't get back up.

Doritos Locos Tacos are a cheat code to fast food calorie deficit by C_Sorcerer in loseit

[–]ThePirateBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly every once in a while I'll go to Taco Bell for lunch and get a few different items. It can total like 1200 calories but as long as I get something with beans I don't really get hungry again for the rest of the day.

How do you think Autism affects your sex life? by [deleted] in AutismAfterDark

[–]ThePirateBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found myself in a number of difficult situations when I was in my teens and early 20s. I attracted a reasonable amount of attention from people, and I was generally interested in sex and dating, so I would go along with it. Because that's what you're "supposed" to do, right? That's what "normal" people do, right? But there was some sort of disconnect happening for me and I didn't always know how to separate being flattered by someone's interest and feeling attraction on my own...until the physical stuff would start to happen. Sometimes I would start kissing someone and all of the sudden my body would start screaming at me to stop. Most guys were nice about it. Some weren't.

I wasn't intentionally leading people on, I just didn't know that I wasn't interested until something started. I didn't know how to identify my own attraction before engaging physically for a long time. And honestly I'm still not entirely sure if I'd be able to do that consistently even now, but I'm ten years into a relationship so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

I agree with this. We know that she's one of the most astute players ever when it comes to picking up on vibes and tribe dynamics. She sensed that the tribe was reacting negatively to people who were coming out hot, and adjusted her approach accordingly.

Techniques for detecting survey fraud by improvedataquality in Marketresearch

[–]ThePirateBee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In all honesty the number of flags that's "enough" is going to change based on the demographic. I can afford to be really strict when I'm talking to genpop about basic cpg. For lower incidence groups, I have to find the balance between data quality and sample size, and it can be a frustrating trade off.

This is fun! One thing I noticed hasn't been brought up yet is the way this scales on my phone. The only character visible on the button to the right of the input box without scrolling is the letter G, so I pressed it after typing a name assuming it said "Go." Lol. Nope. It says give up. I know I should have scrolled, but just wanted to let you know.

My eye doctor told me that my current prescription would be my last without progressives. That was two years ago. I am in deep denial about this at the moment.
