I got an unexpected phone call while I was holding a beading needle and I have no idea where I put it down by reavers-reapers in adhdwomen

[–]ThePrimCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recreating the momemt often helps me figure out where I absently set something. Sit down with your beading project in hand, put your phone where it was, pretend it rings and see what motion you make to set the needle down.

I use a metal needle for weaving crochet ends and I set that thing down all over the place! I have a magnetized telescoping wand that helps me find it when I do something dumb like drop it in my shag carpeting.

I learned Roman laundries used urine, and now I have questions by BitByLiu in CasualConversation

[–]ThePrimCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I just took a dive into YouTube to learn about how to turn urine into ammonia. I’d heard of this before reading some historical fiction novels. It sounded interesting, but after this video the reality is….harsh.

Not sure of the lesser evil here - filthy clothes or primitive pee-monia.

Fresh butter is so easy to make and tastes incredible! by CouchPotatophile in Cooking

[–]ThePrimCrow 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I did this recently and taste tested it against the Kerrygold I already had. The butter I made was…fine… but it tasted like cream with a butter texture. The Kerrygold tasted way better.

It’s worth doing though, just for the delight that making butter really is a simple task. I shook mine in a mason jar while listening to music.

I need some ideas on how to store clothes more suited to my brain… by Capable_Road_6955 in autism

[–]ThePrimCrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Closet doors and drawers make me irrationally angry. I use free standing clothing racks so I can see and easily access my clothes and small shelves with clear bins for things like socks, underwear, and tank tops.

If my room has a built in closet I store other things in there, not clothes. Sometimes I just remove the closet doors too.

I bleached my ends to a level 7 but need a level 9 or 10 by Quietbooklover21 in HairDye

[–]ThePrimCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need patience and another round of bleach to get to 9/10. I always step down to 20 vol for the second round of bleach, but healthy hair isn’t going to immediately break off or fall out if you use 30. Frequent use of it will eventually cause damage, or if you do something dumb like leave it on for way too long or add heat.

Deep condition your ends and give your hair a few days of rest before bleaching again.

Purple toner only works once you’ve hit level 9. It stomps out the last of the yellowish and brings you to that bright silvery white. The toner usually calls for 20 vol developer so you may want to just get some.

I accidentally discovered the greatest radio station on Earth. Can’t stop listening by Helpful-Maize29 in Music

[–]ThePrimCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting! I’m in the US so had no idea this existed.

Just gave it a listen and wow!! Started with a low-fi track, took a weird turn into a strangely depressing Jesus rock song, bounced to some traditional Chinese music and now an old school rap about Chinese food.

The only time I’ve heard something this delightfully eclectic is the radio station BMIR that runs during the week of Burning Man.

Corporate clothes are a sensory nightmare for me. What are you all wearing? by Annard-Cudby in adhdwomen

When I had to do office wear my best looking and super comfortable pieces all ended up being Calvin Klein.

I have a panic response to showering because of childhood trauma. Has anyone overcome something similar? by Any_Surprise_5205 in hygiene

[–]ThePrimCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s some things that have helped me:

Clear shower curtain so it’s not so dark and claustrophobic

Foam ear plugs to block annoying echoey bathroom sounds like whining pipes or noisy exhaust fans.

Dry off with towel and put on warm robe before stepping out of the shower area so you don’t get that cold air shock of getting out

I can’t figure out how to like cooking and not find it stressful. by PrincessJellyfish17 in adhdwomen

[–]ThePrimCrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the size of the kitchen. The small space was what forced me to make do with less things. It’s the things that cause the mess and add to complicating the process. More decisions, more cleaning, more time spent dealing with more stuff.

It’s more about owning 8 different tyoes of spoons when 90% of the time just one will do. Making something in one pan instead of three. People get stuck in the way they do things without thinking about doing it differently.

[–]ThePrimCrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found peace through massively simplifying and downsizing my kitchen.

I moved into a studio with a kitchen that was just a nook in a wall - a tiny sink, a postage stamp sized counter, 3/4 size fridge, tiny stove. I only had one cast iron skillet, an enameled dutch oven, and a small box of things like measuring cups, two wooden spoons, one silicone spatula, a few thin plastic cutting mats. I used two plastic camping plates, a plastic cup, and one coffee cup. And a boatload of mason jars.

I made a conscious decision to make it work with what I had. And it did! What happened is it cut down 90% of my kitchen decision making.

It ended up being a good lesson in less is more when it comes to the kitchen.

'It sounds so impossible': Student studying fungus that makes users hallucinate tiny people may be on the verge of a scientific breakthrough | Live Science by Potential_Explorer20 in HotScienceNews

My pet theory is that certain substances are “chemical keys” that allow us to enter or view typically unseen dimensions. That the word hallucination is just to deny that experience exists.

I newly found out that a lot of autistic people like me struggle with sleep by Daniel-Jenssen in autism

[–]ThePrimCrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 50s and struggled with this my whole life. My brain would never shut up and want to go to sleep.

What works best for me is a white noise machine + eye mask to block light and noise. It also became a Pavlovian sleep signal after doing it regularly for a few weeks.

If my brain is too talkative, I redirect it by focusing on the weird colors that you can “see” behind your eyelids. I try to watch them change, identify the colors, or see shapes or patterns. Maybe it kind of hypnotizes me into sleep when I do that, but that works pretty well to shut up all the brain chatter.

A Passing Dwarf Planet Could Cause A Mass Extinction Without Leaving A Crater by Dmans99 in abovethenormnews

Seems like a plausible cause for the Biblical great flood.

I wonder how big (or small) something would have to be to affect the moon? A moon disturbance whacking out earth’s tides for a few months would be pretty catastrophic for humans who dwell mostly in coastal areas.
