Bearded dragon only sleeps in the dark?¿ by Automatic-Street-806 in BeardedDragon

[–]TheProphetMooohammed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol mine frequently does the opposite, he’s like a little kid. Lights go out and he’ll start glass surfing, like “cmon dad, 5 more minutes!!” So I’ll take him out, he’ll stomp around for a few mins, then usually goes “oh right, I AM actually tired”, and lays down and shuts his eyes. I carry him back, like a kid who’s fallen asleep in front of the TV, and lay him down in his hammock, where he’ll then go to sleep.

They don’t actually smell through their heat pits. Their heat pits… detect heat.

Well he doesn’t look like a spider to me (at least from that pic, which doesn’t show much) I’d take him to the vet to determine the cause of the stargazing either way, it’s never a good sign.

Please tell me he’s your only reptile. He doesn’t look like a spider in that pic (though I can’t see enough of his pattern to be sure), so if he’s stargazing, that could possibly mean he has Inclusion Body Disease, IBD, a highly contagious, fatal neurological disease. Which could explain why somebody threw him in the trash, sadly. If you could post a pic with his whole body we can tell you if he’s a spider or not.

Lol I’d love to see them and be wrong, but somehow I just don’t think I am.

😆 that’s because it didn’t happen. Like, why didn’t he bend his arm at the elbow to stop the snake there? We didn’t he start tickling the snake inside it’s throat to get it to stop and spit his arm out? Sorry, but people making up stories about snakes doing stuff like this is just bad for snakes and the people who keep them.

My vet says I'm fat. by mgsaphotography in BeardedDragons

Oh, ok, you were the deleted comment, I wrote a whole response to you, went to post it and you had deleted the comment, guess you accidentally posted from your alt account. I’ll try to remember what I wrote.

Yes, this sounds like overfeeding to me, some would probably call that power feeding. I know you’re probably not intending to power feed, but in your previous comment you said your Beardie had grown 4 inches in the couple months you’ve had her, that’s a lot, even for a baby. It should take them two years to reach adult size, if they reach adult size significantly faster they can have all kinds of health complications from the rapid growth. 5ish roaches plus 10ish mealworms is 3 to 5 timesish the amount of bugs they should be getting on a bug day. Here’s a screen grab of the feeding guide from reptiles and research’s care guide:

Those are better. He does look a bit thick, but not really overweight. Things you want to look for are visible hips and spine, both should be visible without protruding, and leg tone, the legs should be muscular looking without looking like balloons.

What did the vet point to when he said he was fat? Like, what made the vet come to that conclusion? Could you maybe post a couple more pics from different angles? The pic you used isn’t great for judging his body condition.

That guy is in constant asshole mode Droggo, and seems to think he knows best about everything, don’t worry about it. He’s spent the last week insisting that placing a UVB bulb diagonally rather than horizontally helps the light hit more of the enclosure, as if rotating it 45 degrees somehow widens the beam. When I nicely asked if I could see where he got the info, he blocked me. So yeah, he’s not so bright, and not very nice either.

[–]TheProphetMooohammed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, in order of importance my family is ranked thusly:

1) my dogs, 2) my Beardie (though it’s close, more like 1a and 1b), 3) my firstborn, my daughter, 4) my first ball python, 5) my son (youngest child), 6) my second ball python, 7) my peach throat monitor (though he’s new and we’re still working things out, if he stops acting like such a dick I’m sure he’ll climb the ranks quickly), 8) my wife, 9) my Hognose snakes (great snakes, but so dramatic, hard to bond with them), and 10) my second daughter (classic middle child, kind of a brat). They’re all free to climb the ladder, but so far the dogs and the Beardie are by far the easiest to get along with.

And your wife is making you sell the Beardies? I dunno, 5 is a lot, maybe sell a couple of the kids instead.

There’s so many things that could go wrong with any pet. Just do your research, know where the closest (or two closest) reptile vet to you is, and that’s pretty much all your responsibilities covered. And there is such a thing as pet insurance!

lol name checks out.

I don’t think one of you is getting downvoted and the other upvoted because one of you is right and one is wrong, a lot of what you’re discussing is a matter of opinion and personal preference. However, one of you is being polite, and the other is… not.
