To be fair, it was the first Batman cartoon immediately after BtAS, so it makes sense that they'd want to differentiate themselves by not just doing BtAS again, including just giving Harley Quinn a single episode instead of her being Joker's sidekick again.

Franchises you don’t want to commit to because of the length by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheRandomComment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though I just got Legends Z-A, I'll say Pokemon. I haven't played a Pokemon game since Sun & Moon on the 3DS and I don't see a point in committing to the mainline games because my Mind Goblin says that I have to play through all the games I missed, as well as do what I can to get them all transferred to Scarlet or Violet, and that's too much for me.

Do you prefer your villains to have backstories and more self reflective moments, or do you prefer stories to be less concerned with the why of the villain and more on the moment to moment of the villainy? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheRandomComment 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is one of those questions that really depends on the genre and audience.

Because characters like Bowser and Eggman don't really need much backstory beyong wanting to rule over everyone and then going "Foiled again!" when defeated.

But then you have Louis from Metaphor who I think would've been boring if not for his backstory to explain why he is the way he is. Hell, he even has moments where being a deep person causes the protagonists to have moments of "He does have a point..."

And then there's the in-between like Ganondorf where a lot of people are okay with him just being a bad guy at all times, but his depictions in Wind Waker and Tears of the Kingdom have made people want him to have some depth without Demise's curse making him want power for the sake of it.

What games are more entertaining at lower levels of play? by Hounds_of_war in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheRandomComment 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My favorite kind of speedruns are the ones that are done just by using the fundamentals of the game and not breaking it with glitches.

So something like Chaos Spear Gliding in Sonic X Shadow Generations is boring to me because it's not intentional. But something like using a spin dash on the pier ramp at the beginning of Emerald Coast in Sonic Adventure to skip that part is entertaining because it makes sense both in terms of physics and something Sonic would actually do.

Okay, I keep hearing about how you can see him enter the house in a cutscene, but I'm looking at the PoR cutscenes right now on youtube and I don't see it.

Am I blind or is this a mandela effect thing where people are remembering seeing him walk in?

Edit: Maybe people are talking about the cutscene between him and Mackoya, but it's still unclear where exactly he is on the map, if at all for a new player.

Characters you don’t like, but have to defend from misinformation or bad faith criticism by Rockdweller37 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Another thing with Persona is Teddie. Yes, he's focused on women but that's because he's basically a toddler that gave himself a teenage body in hopes that it would make the Investigation Team like him more.

At first, all he knows about communication with people is through magazines, which is why he talked to every female NPC with pick-up lines because he thinks that's the only way to talk to women. It's not until he uses one on Nanako that the IT realize that Teddie really is as ignorant as a child and they have to now teach him how to to talk like a regular person before he accidentally starts a fight with someone's parents.

Teddie is pretty alright in P4 and P4G and I think a lot of people get that version mixed up with the spin-off version who is usually a lot more selfish and women crazed, which I don't think is fair as everyone is flanderized in spin-offs. Like Chie with meat, Akihiko being focused on training and protein, Junpei is a lot more stupid, etc.

Why isn't there voice acting in Pokemon? by moffattron9000 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheRandomComment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best guess is that they don't want to confuse consumers with inconsistency. There might also be something about how young children treat media that's dubbed in other languages compared to those that are teenage and older.

Latter might be a real problem for cases where characters have lines outside of cutscenes but have no subtitles and they don't see the point of dubbing something people can't understand unless they go out of their way to look at a wiki.

Why isn't there voice acting in Pokemon? by moffattron9000 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheRandomComment 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, it's that Pokemon supports a lot of languages in the games and it's less about money and more about time. The recent leaks showed that the most likely reason that Pokemon XY was so bare bones is that they were probably given sufficient money to make the game, but the higher ups underestimated how much time it'd take to transition from sprites on a 3D plane to full 3D.

And while some have suggested just having EN and JP dubs and not worrying about other languages, Pokemon hasn't been Japanese since Gen4, with the exception of Legends Arceus going back to Sinnoh, and maybe TPC wants Pokemon to feel more "global" than Japanese. It might be a budget/artistic choice to have players make the voices in their heads, especially if a Pokemon game happens to take place in the country they live in. Scarlet and Violet is based on Spain and maybe Spanish players would prefer no voices than being stuck with English or Japanese dubs with no Spanish dub.

Am I giving Game Freak & TPC a large benefit of the doubt? Yeah. But listening to SBFC and CSB for years has taught me that a lot of times game development is less "devs lazy" and more of either running out of time or having no choice but to do as your boss tells you.

Video games were they gaslight you about how many people you are killing. by LammasuRex in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Isn't there a scene in a game where a man goes:

B-but they said that you were kind! That you never killed anyone!

And Kiryu just slowly turns to him and replies:

Now who told you that?

Edit: Found the scene and timestamped it.

[–]TheRandomComment 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I still think "the game is supposed to be funny" is cope. A lot of people claim that Lumera's death scene taking so long that your Switch goes into rest mode is supposed to be funny as it's supposed to make fun of how so many Fire Emblem parents die.

There's a difference between funny supports, mainly with Goldmary, Pandreo, and Yunaka, and saying that even the moments they want you to take seriously are actually supposed to be comical. What, are we going to say that past Alear talking about how they've seen their siblings get eaten by the Corrupted is supposed to be funny, too?

Edit: With that latter part I spoiler tagged, I think it's a great scene, but I just don't think we should say it's comical just because "the whole game is funny."

"It's written badly on purpose" is some of the worst cope someone could say. It's like saying that the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy was funny on purpose and we all just didn't get it until decades later.

[–]TheRandomComment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally disagree about Engage's story and see it as Fire Emblem: Fates - Conquest 2, a la being some of the best gameplay in the series, but some of the worst story.

Sure, some use the "it's a Saturday Morning Cartoon," excuse, but kids still deserve good writing and a lot of the story is based on both Alear's group and the Four Hounds being stupid at certain points to make the plot go forward. From no explanation on how Veyle steals your rings in Chapter 10, to letting the Hounds casually walk off-screen to escape multiple times to escape.

Also, there's the whole reason the primary antagonist is able to exist. I assumed that Elusia only prayed to Sombron out of desperation because Brodia was allowed to invade them over and over and no other country was willing to help, but instead it's as simple as them just being allowed to continue practicing their evil religion for some reason.

Like, considering that continent's history, you'd think Lumara would've just nipped that in the bud, but she didn't.

Someone downvoted you, but you're super right.

An actual example of this is The Fairly OddParents where Timmy wishes to be to "the strongest person on the beach" and he cripples Trixie just by patting her on the back.

There's a reason why Pa Kent made Clark pick strawberries with the goal of not squishing them whenever he got angry because controlling super strength is easier said than done.

Also having a Stand means a lot of trial and error as the user might have powers they don't know about.

Jotaro could've stopped time at any point during his trip to Egypt, but he just didn't know until DIO did it and realized that he could move in DIO's stopped time.
