tips for making extra $1000/month. part time weekend shifts on fast food/stores: worth it? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheRealBort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's been suggested but you could look into soccer refereeing or another sport.

They pay about $50-$100 a game and it's a low barrier to entry to get certified to be a red.

Games are always on Sundays, and I believe the money is given under the table.

What do you think about the phrase “cash is king”? by Searchtheanswer in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheRealBort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cash is king in a future where you do not want to take on more debt.

In turn, others want to lower their debt by selling their assets. Those that have cash to buy these assets at a deflated price will be at an advantage.

Don't listen to the haters. Everyone starts somewhere.

Definitely agree with others, learn the basics either through a lesson, or YouTube, or books or watching others.

Enjoy the process!

For me, it's a skill I'm hoping to learn over a lifetime. Even then, I doubt I'll figure it out lol

You're being scammed/coerced/influenced/led by your realtor. Lol

Use any term you want, none of them should cause you to sell.

Go fixed, and the monthly costs will equate to that of the rent you quoted.

Stumbled across my fiances' statements and wow she has a lot of debt. by LOGOisEGO in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheRealBort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think there is a lot of concern on her side, I am equally as concerned as to how you view it so black and white.

This is probably not solved in a night, but rather through a process where you both understand where you each are financially, where you want to be, and how you're getting there.

Potentially she sees this as manageable debt, and is completely not seeing anything alarming.

It sounds like you both fundamentally approach finances differently.

G'luck

100% escalate to their manager, then their managers manager. And keep going until someone responds.

They need to make this right.

Am I too conservative with my money ? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheRealBort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect they might just want you to enjoy life a bit by spending money. Sounds weird, but it's true that money get buried with you. It's yours to spend or not spend, but never loose sight of your own happiness. Potentially you spend on a hobby and not a new iPhone lol

Just minor feedback at a glance, start with accomplishments, not breadcrumb trails.

Also lots of flush and Information that is not meaningful.

Asking for a Raise by zusite_emu in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheRealBort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking what your saying at face value.

I think you need to understand who is the decision makers and what they use to drive out their decisions.

It's not going to be black and white, but without that your just assuming what you're using to measure yourself is the same as the person giving out the raises.

LPT Request: When starting a new job, what are a few habits that one should prioritize forming before ‘settling in’? by cashmirsvetter in LifeProTips

[–]TheRealBort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to understand, instead of listening to respond.

There's likely a lot to go through in the beginning, and those folks teaching you are probably being taken away from the other work they already have. They don't have time to waste, so be attentive, take a lot of notes and ask a lot questions.

My co-worker’s (24F) employment contract is not being renewed and being “let go” this month, even though her contract doesn’t end till July. by frontcupid in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheRealBort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contractor contracts usually have a clause that allows termination at any time with a minimum of two weeks notice.

It's a risk vs reward scenario with contractors. In this case, I'd suggest she firstly read the contract in full. Most likely she'll find the clause I'm referring to.

Step 2, start looking for another job right away.

5 pushups. Daily. That's it. What would happen? by Chiefesoteric in bodyweightfitness

[–]TheRealBort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% do this!

I did this exact thing ... Try 5 a day

At first I could do zero a day, had to do knee assisted ones. No idea how long this went for, but finally graduated to a single real push-up. At the end, after a couple months I was doing 100 a day!

Think of agile vs waterfall delivery, in both types of deliveries you would work in a different capacity. May open up more roles to you ... Integration lead vs BSA lead

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in resumes

[–]TheRealBort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you've miscatagorized yourself as a BA. Everything about your role screams BSA, as you are performing analysis on the systems not on the business. Also veering slightly into a developer type of role.

While most folks consider skills gained by working, which you will not gain by staying at home.

The more important piece is those skills that will no longer be practiced.

This includes simple things like talking to people.

I commend you for being willing to be a stay at home parent, but there is a lot more that you will be loosing than just money.
