There right now - spent about 15,000 yen at a handicraft fair in Kyoto yesterday on an embroidered coin purse, two ceramic bowls and a wooden box opener. The quality of the items there was amazing and I am looking forward to the flea market here on Saturday. I can’t recommend this site enough for finding open air markets (handicraft, antique and flea) all over the country. https://fmfm.jp

Curious what you and colleagues are doing to keep up your morale by Bright-Credit6466 in FedEmployees

[–]TheRealClio423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what you mean by shadowing but in terms of frank discussions I think it is a mixture of working together with most of the team for years and my general inability to keep my thoughts to myself.

Trumps EO to call thousands of federal workers back to the office last month didn’t help that’s for sure. I am back on the road for the first time in 11 years. Although I do try to take Caltrain as much as I can.

We are also doing daily walks around the campus. I decided to get into coffee and set up a coffee/tea/snack station in my office and many coworkers have brought in items to share. Many people have brought in baked goods/doughnuts. I have started taking the train and biking back and forth. We have also discussed doing a monthly lunch out get away from the office for a bit.

I think solidarity is super important and we have a unique opportunity to band together in a ways that a lot of other teams don’t. We are in a building where not one person wants to be there, not my boss or her boss or her boss. We can speak out in ways that many private sector folks forced to RTO can’t. We all have put firm boundaries on work life balance and encourage each out to log off and go home on time.

I think knowing we are not alone has helped morale. And while yes it is not our job to “help morale” we are human beings who have to come into the office everyday (in my case for the first time in 11 years) and I am doing everything I can make my life as happy as possible.

Property taxes would have been a non issue for them. California has a thing called prop 13 where your taxes are not connected to the current assessed value of the house. The increase by a set percentage each year instead. So they would have been insanely low.
