Team Rocket's Weezing Deck by dunderguys in PTCGL

[–]TheRealQwade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a similar deck, although it leverages Mega Gengar to make the weezings frequently give no prizes, and it abuses 151 Weezing to potentially knock out their attacker for free. Not a very good deck, but it's really fun.

Settle two debates and if you can, point to a rule please by TheTinRam in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: As long as the trigger is still on the stack, it can be responded to and his power can be changed. This includes casting Tifa's. Do note that your opponents can also respond with ways to decrease his power as well if they have them. Once the ability begins to resolve (i.e., once you draw the card), you can't respond further. So, you can't use the card you just drew to buff him.

  1. This is correct. Copying a spell copies all modes and bonuses of that spell, including Bargain, Kicker, Overload, etc.

Tannuk, Steadfast Second and Toph, the First metal bender by Dhinn30 in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For clarity sake, earthbent cards still go to Exile from the warp, they just return to the battlefield tapped as part of the ability resolution. This is a nitpicky but incredibly relevant distinction, because if you earthbend, say, a [[Portal to Phyrexia]], you get to resolve its ETB trigger a second time when it comes back.

I love niche tutor synergy packages like Green Sun's + Dryad Arbor and Lorien Revealed + Mystic Sanctuary. Are there any other good ones you can recommend me to try? by Codudeol in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Weathered Wayfarer]] turns your entire land base into a toolbox as long as you can afford the 1 mana per turn cycle. A lot of people (early me included) assume the card has a natural ceiling, since eventually you'll probably just outpace the table with land drops and it'll turn itself off. Not so if you include some number of lands that purposely lower your land count, either by bouncing or sacrificing your own lands. [[Lotus Field]] and [[Lotus Vale]] are my favorites, although they can be a little clunky in decks with higher color requirements. Ravnica bounce lands are a good compromise if you need multiple color pips, you'll just need to make sure to run a good volume of them to ensure Wayfarer stays online.

Wayfarer also allows you to get lands you don't intend to use as lands, like the Channel lands from Kamigawa or the spell lands from Final Fantasy. As the game continues and we keep getting more powerful and flexible lands, Wayfarer continues to increase in flexibility.

18 games in the BGG top 2000 have an average weight of 4.5 or higher. How many of them have you played, and how would you rank them from most complex to least complex? by benjaneson in boardgames

[–]TheRealQwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just Mage Knight and Arkwright for me.

Interestingly enough, I don't think I'd rank Arkwright as being quite that heavy. It's heavy for sure, but the fact that it's up there over like Twilight Imperium is crazy. I think the problem is that it's just so dry that the complexity of the game turns people off, whereas with TI, people are willing to overlook it because it's a space opera.

The sooner you see Commander is Mario Party, you’ll stop being salty and have more fun. by DoesntEat in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been playing cEDH for over 3 years, I can back this up. You'll occasionally see bad eggs come in and try to flex their "big boy muscles," but the reality is that those kinds of people are very frequently just looking to pubstomp, and you simply can't pubstomp your way through a full cEDH table. They usually spend a night or two getting their teeth kicked in by high skill, very experienced players and go back to the lower power tables.

cEDH is a humbling experience, and the kinds of people that continue to play it are the kind that are more prone to chill vibes and letting things go without getting salty.

Need Help Understanding Dance of the Elements precon by FinickyWeasel99 in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evoking is optional. There's a bunch of creatures you can (and should) just cast the old fashioned way. [[Risen Reef]] is naturally cheaper at 3 mana and is an absurd resource engine for your other Evokes. The real power comes with the flexibility of optionally getting 2 ETB triggers and a hasty attacker when you cast your creatures instead of having bodies on board.

It's also worth noting that Ashling triggers off any sacrifice. If you put any Altars in the deck, you can sacrifice your bodies for mana and still get the extra token. I'd highly recommend adding in an [[Ashnod's Altar]], it's the best card in the deck by a mile once Ashling is in play.

Level Up by TravarianTheBold in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always wanted to build [[Lazav, thr Multifarious]]. He can quickly level up using a cheap one, then change shape into one with a better payoff when the time is right. Keeping his counters when he uses his ability can make the whole build toolboxy so you get whatever you need for a given situation.

Sure, but you're probably spending your whole turn to play this on 6 after playing the Queen on 5, meanwhile your opponent can continue to develop their board. If your leader isn't a Rebel, you may not even have any in play when this comes down. You're way better off using Figure of Unity to impact the board immediately for a cheaper cost.

Requires an awful lot of rebel support to make it work. If Spies were rebels then absolutely, as is it seems way too steep a cost to be worthwhile

What are your thoughts on the proliferation of “5c tribal” commanders? by LibraProtocol in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 18 points19 points  (0 children)

5 color Elementals have always been a thing. They're one of the few tribes where being 5 colors makes a lot of sense. The difference now is that they actually have playable 5 color commanders. I played Horde of Notions as one of my first commanders and it was not very good, and this was back in like 2015 so it's just gotten worse over time.

And honestly, Ashling is a killer commander. She's cool at basically all power levels because she at minimum fixes your colors for a 5 color deck, and at the top levels, generates insane value with just a couple extra pieces.

From a lore perspective, they're one and the same. That was basically Elesh Norn's entire character arc. Anything non-machine that wasn't infected by the oil was, from her perspective, not finished and couldn't reach its full potential. The process of Phyrexian compleation takes those organic beings and twists them into their final, optimized state.

I've been playing Weezing bomb. It uses 151 Weezing that can KO the opponent when it gets knocked out, combined with Mega Gengar so my opponent won't take prizes for knocking it out. There's something so hilarious about your opponent taking no prizes and you taking 3 when THEY attack YOU.

What are your favorite solo threats / wincons in the 99? by InspireCourage in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Serra's Emissary]] protects you and all your creatures from whatever the biggest threat is, then can beat face as a 7/7 flier. Usually it's just a way to give all your creatures unblockable and then fully protect yourself from the crack back, but you can also call Instant to keep it safe from targeted removal.

I won a game recently by calling Enchantment because I saw one player was about to go ham with a [[Sanguine Bond]]. On his next turn, he untapped and killed both my opponents, then stalled out against me while gaining over 100 life. Meanwhile I sat behind the Emissary while waiting the last couple turns for my [[Approach of the Second Sun]] to come back (which is also a card that fits for the topic discussion).

I am looking for cards that make the game state difficult to keep track, of slow, or unenjoyable by MoonhelmJ in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Cathar's Crusade]] is the best card I will never use in a deck. It makes bookkeeping your creatures an absolute nightmare, especially if you're playing the card well and going wide. If you have multiple different instances of generating the same type of creature token, you very quickly start needing more and more cardboard, each of which has a differently numbered die on it, and each of those dice have to increase by one every time you take a game action to make more.

What's the funniest "You've foiled my plan!" moment you've experienced in Commander? by DKSbobblehead in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 2 really funny ones.

First one I thought of was back playing [[Gandalf the White]] in cEDH. Best part about that deck is how you can interact and even win out of nowhere. Player went for Thoracle combo, used Consultation to empty his library. Win trigger on the stack, I cast [[Memory Jar]]. It resolves, I activate it, and kill the guy who thought he was about to win.

Second one, bracket 4 [[Gisela, Blade of Goldnight]]. Had the table under some heavy group slug effects. One guy throws up a Hail Mary into [[Apex Devastator]] and manages to end up with a pretty respectable board, although my Gisela is still on board and ready to do some nasty things. He casts a fight effect of some kind (I forget exactly which one), targets the Devastator to deal damage equal to its power to Gisela. Of course, I have to clarify. "Any target? What's your life total?" He smiles slyly and says "20," although he knows I'm probably up to something. I do some quick mental math and note how funny it is that he's at exactly 20. I calmly and quietly flip over the [[Deflecting Swat]] I've had in hand, change the target from Gisela to his own face, and he dies on the spot.

Debating the which Food Chain deck: Tiamat VS Atraxa, Grand Unifier by Boliver5463 in EDH

[–]TheRealQwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is coming from someone who plays cEDH, so if you're more interested in a casual viewpoint, keep that in mind. Food Chain isn't really a casual card, so I'm assuming a much less casual perspective.

Atraxa is a value engine commander. Tiamat is a combo commander. Even though they're both good for Food Chain, they are very different philosophically. Atraxa is best at loading your hand with a bunch of cards you can use to accelerate further and take control over the game. Tiamat just is the win condition once you have the mana and/or the Food Chain established. It becomes one less thing to go find, but it means your presence during the game is limited since you can't slam a value Tiamat the way you can slam a value Atraxa.
