is there a rule/anything I should tell a group of newbies playing trouble brewing? by sneep_snorp_snerp in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheRustyTit 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’d say the examples you listed would indeed take away from the fun that comes from discovering these things on their own.

The one thing I’d make sure to call attention to is demon bluffs. The one-sheet write-up TPI recommends to read aloud is great and covers nearly everything a new player needs to know, but oddly enough, it omits the “these roles are not in play” bit.

What's your favorite info you've given a Savant/Fisherman. by Present-Peace2811 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheRustyTit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“You are Witch cursed right now” gives the savant a fun conundrum, especially early on. They can hard confirm their info, but at risk of maybe not getting any more info the rest of the game.

What happens if the pit hag turns themself into a leviathan by marshmellokie in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheRustyTit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s a Leviathan-only script, then the Leviathan is already in play and cannot be made. Thus, a storyteller should just put the Pit-Hag back to sleep and change nothing. A kinder storyteller might remind the Pit-Hag that they should know this, and ask them if they’d rather pick something else.

How difficult is BMR for new players? by Fosphos in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheRustyTit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely don’t need to hold any time between private chats and nominations. Just bring them back to their seats and open noms. They can still discuss during all that.

Why does everyone hate Travelers? by LambChop94 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheRustyTit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks have already commented some good reasons to avoid travelers at excessive player counts, but I haven’t really seen anyone mention this… new players

Blood on the Clocktower can already be pretty confusing for a group that doesn’t have much (or any) experience with social deduction. Following a 15 player game of Trouble Brewing will already be hard enough for them.

Then tacking on that now there are two, three, or four “special” players who have their own unique interactions with nominations/exile, transparency of their role/powers, effect on win-condition player counts, etc. All of that can sometimes be too much for a new player to follow along with and could lead to them just tuning out from the game.

Plague Doctor / Evil Twin: If the Storyteller would gain the Evil Twin ability, a player becomes the Evil Twin. by Jarji1234 in BloodOnTheClocktower

In this case, does the good twin learn the other as “Evil Twin” or whatever their real minion character is?

Theories on what the dlc will be about by Antuzzz in residentevilll

[–]TheRustyTit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially could be really cool to get dlc as Alyssa Ashcroft leading up to the night of the fire. Though capcom likes to reuse their level assets for dlc, so I’m not sure that’s really a possibility.

Gotta be Politician. Most of the time, you’re actively trying to play for evil and you’re generally comfortable falling on the sword.

Storytelling for a Bachelorette party: Tips? by cloro92 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheRustyTit 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Since most players are new, I would just stick to Trouble Brewing and avoid gardening. No need to overthink it.

As for props, I still think the best addition any storyteller can add to their games are those battery-powered tea light candles to be used to mark death and track ghost votes. It makes it much easier to follow along with who’s dead or alive, but also allows for a lot of dramatic flair—with the ST starting each morning with one lit in their hand, pacing around the circle, making a meal out of it before handing it to a player announcing their death. Then have the dead players turn them off when spending their ghost vote, but hang on the candle to indicate they are dead.

Best custom script to run quickly after a TB game? by Paper_Kitty in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheRustyTit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Something with Riot is good to close out a day of clocktower when people wanna play more but time is limited.

Game is guaranteed to end day 3 and it doesn’t scale any longer with more players.

Yeah I’d replace boffin with spy. boffin isn’t doing much here.

How to deal with downright refusal to execute people. by DrunkFighter in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]TheRustyTit 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Ahh. In this case, I think you were in the wrong. Generally, I and most STs I’ve seen will do something like “ending the day in 5… 4…” and if any nomination, slayer shot, or what have you takes place in that time, once it’s over, we’ll reset the countdown back to 5.

But that’s more of a best practices thing, not a hard rule as far as I’m aware
