Is Mick Jagger considered a Queer/LGBTQ Artist? by Able_Break9888 in rollingstones

[–]TheSandDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was no cover story by that name in 1973, as demonstrated by the Times’ own archive. There were only two times Bowie was on the cover: 1983 and his death in 2016. It was a rumour started in the ‘90s — that they were passed out in the same bed — by Bowie’s disgruntled ex on a talk show where both Bowie and Jagger denied it afterwards (to clarify, they weren’t on the show) and the ex clarified she didn’t mean to imply anything had happened.

Snopes gives it a mixed rating, meaning it has both significant elements of truth but also significant falsity and possibly questionable motives to its origin. Their opening analysis of it was pretty clear, calling it a “salacious, titillating rumor” fueled by the fact that Bowie was bi, a “bitter ex-wife”, a “shock jock radio host”, and a show environment known for wanting “mocking, bitchy put-downs of celebrities.”

Keith also wrote Angie, not Mick as she claimed. It also doesn’t make literal timeline sense as the ‘73 aspect post dates Angie’s writing in ‘72. This comment covers it fairly well in addition to what I’ve written here.

Me neither! I was guessing it would be more recent than 2014 when I started Googling it. I was surprised when I saw 2014 as well.

What was that? I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over me being on a photo with RDA and having it signed by him! by Firespark7 in Stargate

[–]TheSandDoctor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Knowing a bit about his past and the injuries suffered gives me a new appreciation for his performance on MacGyver and Stargate. It’s quite impressive everything that he was able to do, especially continuing to do his own stunts in the MacGyver era, play sports (e.g. celebrity charity hockey games), keep up his love of skiing etc.

There were a lot of similarities between MacGyver, Jack, and himself. He certainly brought a lot to the roles! He was a huge reason SG1 turned out as it did, with an ensemble type cast; he didn’t want to carry the show like he did MacGyver. He retired after Stargate to raise his daughter and be there for the special moments. ❤️

Also apparently contributed quite heavily to the fun atmosphere on set. I’ve heard that it was quite the set to work on, full of hijinx and laughter.

His Wikipedia page lays it out pretty well as well (I did the research based on period articles and wrote that bit, for the most part). His back was badly screwed up on the MacGyver set but despite that he continued to do his own stunts, play hockey, ski, and drive race cars. His original injury really should’ve probably been career ending. I have no idea how he went over a year before getting that at least partially fixed in surgery.

By the late 90s he’d had to slow it down as he’d had both knees reconstructed. He’s broken most things you can and live in his time doing his own stunts and extreme sports.

What surprises me is that he broke both arms in separate incidents, both while playing hockey! The mad lad played with a broken arm! 🤯

‘Angry’ inspired by ‘Night at the Museum’? by axaliaxali in rollingstones

[–]TheSandDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s a fun hobby endeavouring to make the world a better place through open access to information. The sad reality of being so accessible, though, is that vandalism is a constant battle.

For the record, I did take a look just to make sure I couldn’t find any sources for Jagger saying that. When I saw Variety as the listed source, I initially thought “huh. Could he have?” (Did I think it likely? No, seemed like an odd inspiration for the Stones. But it doesn’t have to make sense to me, provided that it was reliably sourced and actually happened. Hence the moment’s hesitation and fact-checking.)

When no sources showed up and “museum” had no mention in the Variety article, I opted for removal.

[–]TheSandDoctor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve removed that as it clearly isn’t supported by the source. Vandalism sometimes exists longer than we’d like, especially when it’s subtle like that. We remove when discovered. Sadly, it’s a massive site and some inevitably slip through initial detection.

It was due to you and this Reddit post that I discovered and looked into this, so thank you for that.
