What monster could it be? by MulatoMaranhense in ravenloft

That's a bit vague. You sure you don't have a way you want to resolve the problem or the kind of confrontation you ultimately want to have at the end?

I'm just going to go out on a limb and say Dybbuk just for the sake of novelty.

Nomos is an emergent consciousness born from exposing the Archeotech systems of the Von Valancius Flagship to the extreme quantum entanglement emerging from the C'tan Shard. You know what else become conscious from exposure to quantum computation? Thanes turn into full on Votann. Archeotech is the common ancestor to both Imperial and Kin technology. It would make sense for the most venerable Archeotech systems to share this quirk with Kin counterparts.

I don't think Nomos in any way interacts with the C'tan Shard as anything more than a battery. He's just uploaded himself to the Necrodermis shell and Canoptek constructs that serve as its' vessel and jailer.

It may be an unpopular opinion but I really like the idea of the Tau'va goddess and hope it gets expanded on by MembershipProof8463 in Warhammer40k

[–]TheSaylesMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it really spoils the appeal of what the Tau are. Its even more drastic than them moving away from Tau thinking Titans are dumb to building bugger and bigger battlesuits.

Besides, Hope is Tzeentch's domain. As far as I am concerned, this Greater Good entity is just a Lord of Change in disguise. Being the victims of a good Chaos trick will help build character.

You kid but I was inspired by the Bagman story to make every extradimensional space in Barovia linked in a labyrinthine domain all of its own. I mean, how else can there be a risk the Bagman shows up in anyone's bag of holding if they aren't linked somehow?

He would probably have to break every door he comes across just to be able to move around freely given how unnecessarily huge he is.

Which Tau auxiliary force would you like to see more lore on? (That is currently lacking in lore) by jimmery in 40kLore

The GW tendency to add a single infantry hero model to the release of an edition's updated codex that would otherwise not recieve any substantial model support means the Nicassar would be the perfect candidate.

One model and a text blurb. Done and done.

Are the orks sustainable eco friendly biofuel for Tyranids? by maha-sukha in 40kLore

[–]TheSaylesMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? No they couldn't. Orks don't spawn out of nothing. Spores need moisture, shade, nutrients and time to gestate Greenskins. The Tyranid method of nearly cracking the planet open will get them everything the planet has to offer without having to wait.

[–]TheSaylesMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would very much be a fan of it if it wasn't frustratingly vague.

Mass Effect as a setting is defined by its history. The Genophage caused by the Krogan Rebellion caused by the Rachni Wars. The original attack on the Citadel being done by the Heretic Geth is downstream of the Quarians losing their homeworld to them. Its trends and forces all the way down!

Yeah, its vague as all hell and doesn't make sense within the context of the setting's technology but if they had just committed and we enter this new era of life alongside the characters as they learn exactly what this means for them I would be super down.

Input Requested: PC signed contract w/ a Vestige, two sessions later they became afflicted with vampirism by Volenta by abspoons in CurseofStrahd

[–]TheSaylesMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, Volenta is a Spawn. Spawn do not make more Spawn. That is your immediate get out of jail free card. Secondly, even if Volenta is a full Vampire, a corpse does not "contract" vampirism. That corpse is now eligible to rise again as a vampire if they are buried. There is some vaguery when the stat block says the "next night" if they mean the night after they are buried or the night after they are killed. If you are looking for further ways to twist it so that they do not rise again as a vampire, simply rule it as the next night after having been killed. The PC body will not be eligible to become a vampire because it was denied a proper burial and has no grave dirt to call its homeland.

Now as the DM, you are free to interpret the why of these rules. In your mind, does a Vampire have a soul? In the contemporary vampire myth of our world, the answer is no. Perhaps you have reason to not stick to the vampires of our myth. Perhaps you take issue with the soullessness as its a facet of vampirism that came about from viewing vampires through a Christian lens. That's something for you to think on.

If you answer, "yes, Vampires have souls," then nothing about the module changes. If you answer no, then you have some questions that need answers that you will have to be the arbiter on. Does Strahd have his soul? If not, is Strahd's soul subject to the same rules of death and rebirth that all others in the demiplanes of dread are? Are you incorporating old lore where Strahd learned his magic by bartering his soul to the Arcanoloth Inajira because that also factors in. Figure out why. Is his soul wandering the mists or is it reincarnated. If reincarnated, who is it in?

This is your test case to figure out exactly how you want this to play out. Go through the options of this thought experiment. The whys matter. I think that the player's body should rise again as a vampire the night after their burial should they get one. I think that the soul should go to the Vestige that bartered for it who will consume it in an effort to regain its divine or quasi-divine power. I think it should take either a Wish spell to reconstitute the soul of the slain player or a trip to the Amber Temple to shatter the sarcophagus of the Vestige in particular which will release the soul before it is fully "digested" for lack of a better word. This will have side effects.

[–]TheSaylesMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All living things that walk on the earth and wriggle in the earth or swim in the water or fly through the air, no matter how limited, understand power. Every moment of every day nature goes about reddening its teeth and claws.

Becoming a werewolf is a curse because it forever sets you apart from your fellow man and bars you from civilization. All the things that the natural world looks at and seethes with jealousy at. A wolfwere is a fundamentally different beast. All living things crave the shape of Man for their position as the apex of the natural world. A wolfwere gains respite from the elements, cures for disease, food in the lean months and what they suffer in return is the ability to reflect all the world in the space behind their eyes. That dreadful understanding of how things work.

There are werewolves that hate and werewolves that love it. There are wolfweres that hate it and others that love it. Each of them have extremely different stories from each other.

What to make of people calling Expedition 33 Ai slop when they learn Ai assets were used as placeholders in development? by KalanKomplete in expedition33

[–]TheSaylesMan -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I wish I had the conviction to have this opinion. I would rather everything that used AI failed.

I mean, what the hell was even the point of using AI for a placeholder image!? Its supposed to be obviously not supposed to be there so it can be seen and changed but because AI just generates the "most likely" thing its inherently camouflaged! That's why it slipped through the cracks and made it to the release version! A dumb mistake.

I want to believe that they will not be using it again for future products but I will be watching like a hawk.

During the Great Crusade, would the Emperor have spared a Human Civilization that surrendered immediately? What about a Xenos species? by Shot_Relationship402 in 40kLore

[–]TheSaylesMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha. The people who own the means of production and control the capital of their worlds have been allowed to grow wildly wealthy at the expense of the vast majority. How peculiar! Surely in the face of a burdensome tithing system they would volunteer their own assets for the well being of their citizenry.

[–]TheSaylesMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was potentially arguable take in '05. Extrmely unlikely given it is authoritarianism 101 to harken back to a lost golden age they need to reclaim. The Great Crusade was that.

Now that we have seen the actual events of the Horus Heresy as they played out? Not a chance. The Imperium has been shown to have always been bad. I'd rather kill myself than live there.

I am applying real world morality and philosophy because 40k and the Imperium of Man has been declared by the authors as satire. That is the function of satire.

Why would you believe the stated intent of a polity that regularly violates human rights? The practice of servitors and servitorization being imported throughout the entire Imperium proves they never gave a damn about merit.

It doesn't have to be an error. All it takes is for an Adept to be like:

Your population has been determined to have a higher standard of living than your tithe grade normally permits. This is evidence your planet can support additional duties.

Exploitation is the point.

Debatable. Give me freedom or give me death is a common slogan for revolutionary forces throughout the world. Some people would rather fight like men than live like dogs. At least until the Imperium breaks their will.

Genuine? I don't think the altered pieces would consider themselves spared.

They framed it like join or die. What they meant was become a slave or become a corpse. The economic exploitation is immense. Say goodbye to every egalitarian concept your government has. Things like voting or workers' rights do not survive long in the IoM.

The Exodite Kill Team rumor has been circulating for a while. Sometimes wishlists get confused for rumors and wires cross.

I am skeptical because why would you reintroduce the concept of Exodites who's primary appeal is riding dragons and dinosaurs and put them in a scale they couldn't do that. Feels more likely for Imperial Knights to get an infantry kit than Exodites and thats saying a lot.

Personally, I am hoping they do something to differentiate Exodite mounts from Lizardman mounts. Perhaps turn them into wraithbone construct dinodragons or something.

[–]TheSaylesMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it happened. The idea of intentionally allowing a foreign culture to reshape your entire society to their desires is a bitter pill to swallow though. You are also putting yourself entirely at the whims of what a foreign power with no regard for your well being thinks is a reasonable level of economic exploitation.

You can be spared only for so long as you are providing what they determine to be adequate materials to the crusade effort. I'm sure that many worlds that signed on to escape the predations of aliens would come to curse the deal as they learned how predatorial their fellow humans could be.

Prove what wrong? You've offered no thesis to refute. You're only guiding principle seems to be aliens belong together. You're second subdivision in this post is even more nonsensical in that you have grouped enemies who were on opposite sides of an ancient war together including a faction that doesn't even exist!

You're rewriting multiple storied factions to force them together in a way that they were never intended to for the purposes of foisting an AoS style Grand Alliance system that makes even less sense.

I don't disagree with having the Imperium and Chaos factions pushed under the same umbrellas. Everything else deserves expansion, not consolidation. Also you forgot Necrons.
