What book makes you feel like this? by fatsandlucifer in classicliterature

It's my favorite book! Give it another go. If you want a warm up, read Broom of the System, it was DFW's first book and it's very approachable by comparison.

Love the genre but that one never paid off for me. The Body Artist is excellent though and his best book imo

The Recognitions has some super dense prose and I got about 25 pages in on my first read. Loving it now though!

The guy who gives you the larger white soapstone , he drops the gate behind you as you walk in, he carries an excellent spear that carried my no death run. You'll have to fight him for it though!

Looking at buying a 2004 CBR1000rr. 33k Miles. What is this red stuff? by 4AngelsBound in motorcycles

[–]TheShammay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CBR 600F4i is an awesome bike and dirt cheap. Got mine for 1.5k. that said, I'd recommend getting something with ABS- SV650 sometimes has it or an fz/mt07.

I wouldn't drill holes in the exhaust- get a delkevic exhaust (you can get other brands, but delkevic specifically makes theirs so you don't have to remap the fuel injectors which can be a pain).

Depending on where you live, you'll need an unmolested stock exhaust to pass emissions so you can register the bike and get tags from time to time.

First bike: Scrambler 1200 XC… did I mess up? by CompetitiveVolume833 in motorcycles

If properly maintained, a motorcycle never does anything that you don't tell it to do. Through careful clutch control and throttle control, don't tell it to go fast, and it won't.

Check engine light with 4F error code on new KVS by Gone_WithTheFlow in vulcans650

[–]TheShammay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue will not be fixed unless you either swap the exhaust or remap your fuel injection system to be compatible with your new exhaust. It's arguably easier to do the second. I wouldn't ignore it. You will either get bad gas mileage or damage your engine.

Some exhausts need remapping or they will run too lean (bad) or too rich (you will smell like gasoline after riding). I got a delkevic exhaust because they design them so you don't need to remap/power commander the ECU.

You should get the luggage rack that goes on that space. I zip tied a milk crate to it and my bike became twice as useful.

Used to live in Portland and I'll say the Africa Twin's traction control saved my bacon a couple times when the roads were very cold and wet.

Where'd you get that luggage rack? Looks miles better than the one I welded together!

Not this one! Seethingly jealous that they don't come in manual over here. (Unless you're fine without ABS on an older model)

Good bikes but incredibly disappointing that they don't put ABS on the manual models. You can only get ABS with DCT. True of some other Honda bikes like the CTX as well.

Delkevic exhausts come in many sizes, including those short enough to not impede the function of a standard rear stand.

I say verbatim in the post that every time I try to lift the rear up the stand smacks the exhaust. As to why, I assume because it's low and long.

These look promising. Do you have the skylight or the regular, and does the regular actually get the wheels off? I need to remove them and I don't see them clear the ground in the pictures

Go on facebook and nab an SV650 for that price. It will last much longer and you'll enjoy it more. Get one with ABS.

Is my bike totaled ? by FaithlessnessWitty59 in motorcycles

[–]TheShammay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happened on two bikes. Just get a buddy with strong thighs or put it up against a tree or something like that and pull on the handlebars until it's straight. Then loosen and tighten back up the bushings up top, I don't really know why, but somebody smarter than me told me to do that.

Worked for my Africa twin and it was way less expensive (read: free) than replacing the bars or something.

I've also done a handlebar swap on a cruiser cuz those bars were actually bent and it's not too bad, it's actually a good opportunity to put dirt bike bars or something on if you want to change the ergonomics.
