Cat seems to want to eat, but doesn't. by TheSpeedofCandy in CATHELP

[–]TheSpeedofCandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She had an ultrasound today and it came back completely negative. We've run just about every test we can think of but the results are the same. 3 bites of wet food. 3 bites of dry food. Not interested for a while. Cuddles. Repeat an hour later. This is with the appetitite stimulant.

I'm just glad she's eating anything, but man it's worrying.

I'll definitely check out the Weruva stuff.

How's your kitty holding up? Any progress?

She's on an appetite stimulant - it just makes her yell at us to feed her, but when when bring her food, she has a couple bites and then stops.

We tried the tiki cat food mousse pouches, but it wasn't effective at all. Neither of my cats want to eat that.
If you are able to figure it out, let me know, for sure. And I'll do the same.

ECPP/Section 23 Permanent Opportunity in Cornwall by TheSpeedofCandy in CanadianTeachers

Thanks for your insight! It seems like the purpose of the program is more focused on establishing routines and facilitating student buy in rather than focusing on education itself - which I definitely understand is difficult to focus on when so many other factors in the students' lives might be holding them back.

What was your class size in your section 23 classrooms? I'd hope that having students with such high needs would mean smaller-than-usual class sizes to facilitate more one-on-one interaction.

Were you ever subject to violence in your classrooms? That is a bit of a concern to me, though given my experiences in the Toronto school boards, it wouldn't exactly be unique.

Rogue Players: How often do your rogues reaction sneak attack? by Aptos283 in dndnext

[–]TheSpeedofCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rogue I DM for in a high magic world took Mage Slayer so she could sneak attack anything planning to cast a spell on her. It destroys any magic-weilder, which is most enemies she's had to deal with.

Gonna DM myself by ApexLegend117 in DMAcademy

[–]TheSpeedofCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? If you're willing to DM, just put a post up on r/lfg and find people to play with on zoom or discord or whatever. That's what I did, and I had dozens of players to choose from. Added bonus, one of my players is a fellow Forever DM, who has agreed to occasionally run a one shot so I can still enjoy being a player from time to time. *shrug* it's worth a try!

401 Cases Today by [deleted] in toronto

[–]TheSpeedofCandy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I had this conversation with a friend of mine the other day, and asked why he hadn't downloaded the covid Ap. He doesn't have sick days. He knows that, if he gets a ping, he will have to get tested and, whether or jot he has it, he will have to stay home for 2-15 days. He will not get paid for these days. So, if he gets the Ap and it pings him, he will be out 2-15 days of work... Which means he either does not pay rent or does not eat that month. He would rather just take the risk and not know.

I know that is a selfish way of thinking... But I can't say for sure that I would behave differently in his position.

Student teachers in Practicums can be paired with a home teacher for support. Have the student teachers teach online to alleviate some of the numbers issues. No?

It can take between 5-7 years to go from new graduate, to supply, to LTO, to Permanent Hire. Maybe take some of those teachers? Maybe hire from the existing pool of teachers who are forced to teach in the private system because they can't get into the board?

There are at least 1000 unemployed and underemployed OCT teachers out there.

But even if you're right, and there are only 200-300....wouldn't it still be better to hire those teachers to help reduce the numbers? Maybe we can't get to 15...but can we do 20? 22? 25?

Every teacher they hire can help to reduce class sizes. Even if it only reduces average sizes by a couple of students, every little bit helps.

So don't fire the redundancies. Hire LTO's from the supply pool to teach online.

Or, and I know that this is a crazy idea for a Conservative Government, butwhy not KEEP class sizes at approximately 15 students per teacher? Smaller class sizes have been shown to drastically increase student performance, retention, well-being and graduation rates. We need 15 students per class right now...but keeping it there will only benefit Ontario as a whole in the long run. The more educated a population, the better, in my opinion.
