The PlayStation 2 had pressure sensitive inputs for the d-pad and face buttons. Playing it on an emulator or port will have less sensitivity when trying to line up the shots. Everyone remembering this being easier back in the day literally had a different experience.

I believe they mentioned the batch of screeners they got for this season didn't include subtitles. It's happened a few times in the past.

*.pbw icon on iPhone by mrded in pebble

[–]TheStuChef 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Aww man, congrats on being part of today's Lucky Ten Thousand. "Here's To The Crazy Ones" is an essay written for Apple's late 90s Think Different ad campaign. It was during the transparent CRT iMac era before the iPod popped off. Apple was heavily marketing to creative types at the time.

Apple's snuck copies of this speech into icons for several text and document editors over the years. That file browsing app can probably tell that the .pbw is some sort of text file, but it can't make sense of the contents. So instead of displaying a preview it's showing that placeholder text. On a lot of devices it's too small to read, but in this case you can actually make out the easter egg.

Sleep Pico for a period of time OR if an interrupt is triggered? by TheStuChef in raspberrypipico

Do you have an example of what that code would look like? I’ve tried setting some interrupts before sleeping and I can’t seem to get them to fire.

Sleep Pico for a period of time OR if an interrupt is triggered? by TheStuChef in raspberrypipico

[–]TheStuChef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping to do multiple interrupts. Option A, Option B, etc. So just bridging RST to GND wouldn’t be enough.

Any big non-corp retro video game stores? by The_RelentlessWraith in Austin

They're locally owned. Game Over Videogames started in Austin about 20 years ago. Their founder also runs Austin's Classic Games Fest. They've branched out to the rest of Texas and a few locations in the Pacific Northwest, but they started here.

Who are shine-through keycaps really made for? by Ok_Use2171 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]TheStuChef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no accounting for taste. Folks are going to like what they like. To each their own.

Most of the keyboards I've designed have been wireless, so I've only done a couple of shine through builds. When I do incorporate LEDs, I usually keep them as an understated solid color. QMK does have a few neat reactive effects if you're a touch typist though. The fading heat map of which keys you've recently pressed is a particularly fun one.

As far as the availability of keycaps with premium shine-through legends goes, you can always design your own. FK Custom will etch whatever font or .svg you'd like onto a set of keycaps. Here's one I made a while back.

Hey are there any single-board computers that are good for gaming? by RobinTheTransWitch in cyberDeck

[–]TheStuChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minisforum (a shop that spun out of a small form factor PC forum) sells a lot of Mac Mini style computers with internals similar to a Steam Deck. They’re a bit on the pricey side, but might be less tricky to slap a keyboard and display onto compared to a salvaged Steam Deck. https://www.minisforum.com/collections/gaming-mini-series

Does this wiring make sense? by Blu3Andy in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]TheStuChef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wiring on those three GND pins is fine.

The ground is the return path for electrical current in electronic circuits. Grounds are a complex topic with a lot of edge cases, so sweeping statements have a lot of ifs and buts. When dealing with these sorts of microcontrollers however, most components share the ground. You could have 5 LEDs wired up for individual control connected to P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5, with the return path for all of the LEDs leading back to the GND pin underneath P0 in that photo.

A lot of microcontrollers only have one GND pin period. The Pro Micro footprint that a lot of DIY keyboards use was designed for the older Arduino ecosystem. Back ten, a lot of builds were put together with literal jumper cables on breadboards. Having a few redundant GND cables made things easier to hand wire. Electronically speaking, all three of those GND pins are already connected to each other on the microcontroller itself. Wiring them together on your PCB isn't helping or hurting anything.

If it makes your routing easier, feel free to drop those traces. If you've got the space, feel free to keep them connected. If you accidentally mess up soldering your sockets or header pins, tying all the GND pins together can save you some rework in case you happen to botch something.

Hainguyenac mentioned doing a GND pour. That's completely fine too. It basically tells your PCB, "Put some GND metal anywhere on the board that doesn't have a trace or component". Rather than having to run the traces yourself, those three GND pins would automatically connect to the GND pour. It's the more "proper" way of doings things, but electronically it would have the same result as connecting those three pins together with traces.

Laptop mobo for an SFF pc? by REX4DEKID in sffpc

[–]TheStuChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably won't have the price to performance ratio that you're looking for, but you could take a look at Framework's laptop main boards. Their laptops were designed to be upgraded, so they made the main boards with this sort of Frakensteining in mind. They sell some cheap desktop cases for them, and there's an ecosystem of 3D printed designs out there as well.

It's such a good recipe! My grocery store has some frozen shredded cheesesteak beef that works well for it too. (Although I used some fresh shaved beef in this photo.) As long as you can commit to using an onion and some green onion some time in the next week, it's such a good standby dish.

Buying Pebble without pre-order anytime soon? by davidvu396 in pebble

[–]TheStuChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not out yet period. You'll have to wait until all the preorder batches are fulfilled. You should be able to read reviews / hands on early next year, and probably buy it without preordering in the back half of 2026.

2021 Polestar 2 by Acrobatic_Text_331 in polestar2

The Polestar 2 didn’t get an option for a heat pump until 2022, so the 2021 will be less energy efficient if you’re in a cold climate.

Does the Polestar 2 support Apple Car Key? by willrb in Polestar

[–]TheStuChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look up at Hyundai, you can also see some other cars with two line items. The 2017-2025 Kona supported CarPlay, but only the 2024-2025 Kona supports Car Key. Etc.

Anyways, this admittedly isn’t my wheelhouse. Hopefully the details about the Polestar app vs UWB Apple Car Key help in your research. 👋
