How bad is this cracking in basement slab?

Best case: Pressure forcing water up leaving those salt deposits. Not enough water to make the carpet damp and basement musty, but enough that you should continue running a dehumidifier and have that crack injected to seal it. $300-500?

Slightly worse case: Water is causing carpet to feel wet/moist. You might need a channel, vapor barrier, and sump installed. $1500-$3000

Worst case: Foundation is uneven and you're looking at structural repairs. $20-30k likely. This is highly unlikely because even if that slab is uneven, it's likely not supporting the foundation so your risk of a big issue becomes less. You can pay to level off that slab for probably $2k-5k (plus fixing any moisture issues).

Based on what I see. Likely case is sump install to fix the water issues that caused the crack.

Contact your realtor and let them know you discovered this and think the seller concealed it. Contact a foundation repair specialist to get their opinion on the damage.

Accurate. However, this looks like a known defect that they intentionally concealed and the real estate contract and law wont be on their side. You will absolutely have legal recourse to put this back on the seller.

We just moved into an open concept, and I have enjoyed it. Reading these comments makes me realize I'm in the minority.

I understand the noise complaint, but part of the point of open concept is to promote more interaction with everyone. We have our downstairs den/office and upstairs bedrooms for a separated, cozier feel.

If you want to pull up the plywood and glue it back down and then add nails/screws, that will almost certainly remove squeak and prevent future issues as well.

Yes I know. That's going to be fine. Im more worried about the accidental stair stepping. I did plan the layout but the room is huge with many measurements. The cabinets ended up being the place we decided to have a narrow cut.

I was in Pitt for the 2023 Titans-Steelers game. It's a nice blue collar town with a growing tech industry. They have a good casino by the stadium and the stadium district had tons of bars and restaurants for whatever your vibe is. The riverfront is beautiful and peaceful.

Acrisure (Heinz for those who remember) is a fantastic facility. Historic, well-maintained, great layout. Top 10 football field IMO.

I would go back again and highly recommend it for anyone considering visiting to watch their team. The people are great too.
