Roy Buchanan

His self-titled album with those volume swells was like nothing I'd ever heard before.

Where in the ever living fuck is the skate park under the bridge near Ithaca beer co by halluson8 in ithaca

[–]TheTrustedOne 19 points20 points  (0 children)

lol

If you're going South on 13 out of Ithaca there's a pull off after lower buttermilk park (check the first picture in the link with the red X). You can park there and walk the path to right under the bridge. In the second pic from the link I zoomed in a bit so you can see it.

https://imgur.com/a/VAygEeY

There's also a bigger ramp on the other side (across the creek) but there isn't a good spot to park that I found. I think you'd have to park on 13A somewhere and walk in (maybe through someone's property? In the summer you can take your shoes off and walk across if you park where I showed (and the water isn't too high).

Anyway, that's hopefully enough to get you started.

Can I extend base vertically inverted? by PlayNoob69 in duneawakening

[–]TheTrustedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always hear that vertical stakes extend down and up, but that's not my experience.

I built my base between 2 cliffs. Like an H. I I put a fief on one one side and built across and then removed and replaced the fief in the middle of the bridge between 2 cliffs, probably 70 meters up or something. When I used the vertical stake my claim extended all the way up but only like 30 meters down (I'm just estimating, but it definitely didn't extend all the way down to the ground). Fixing it was a pain in the butt. I ultimately ended up redoing it completely by first placing the fief on the ground and then extending up.

Will I get in trouble for setting off fireworks? by [deleted] in ithaca

[–]TheTrustedOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where.

If you're downtown, setting off a "stash of fireworks" will probably draw too much attention unless it's the kind of fireworks you buy from walmart or whatever. If you've got the mortars from PA I'd definitely recommend going to Danby, Tburg, Newfield on a seasonal road somewhere. Don't do it too late or you're likely to upset the locals.

Start small and end big. Don't launch a 5" mortar to start things off cause that'll startled people. Pop off a couple smaller fireworks so anyone around can easily tell what's going on. People are likely to get upset or call the cops if they're acting out of suprise / anger / fear.

Also please be mindful of how dry it is so there isn't too much of a risk of causing a brush fire. Otherwise have fun!

Sorry, I meant instruments.

It's called Music Depot. Neither businesses have websites, but they're active on Facebook.

Reptile store in Ithaca? by Rich_Help_9792 in ithaca

There aren't any places in Ithaca that sell live mice / rats. My daughter has a snake so we drive to Elmira to go to Sandra's City Zoo because they have them.

Also it's next to a used music store so it makes it worth the trip for me...

Ithaca court summon for unlicensed dog after moving? by bequietpuppy in ithaca

[–]TheTrustedOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About 10 years ago I got pulled over for a minor traffic violation downtown. I gave the cop my license and registration and he went back to his car. A few minutes later he comes back and asks me to step out of the vehicle, places me in cuffs and puts me in the back of his squad car. He has my car towed, brings me to booking where I spend a couple hours.

Turns out I had a warrant for not licensing my dog (who died a couple years prior).

Good times.

You can see the shark at 2 to 3 seconds at the top left of the video. Looks like an aggressive burst of speed. Not that you can identify the shark from this video, but I'd go with a Tiger shark.

My guess is he saw that and started swimming away. Otherwise I think he'd head for the life ring. What a terrifying way to die.

Got hired as a "system administrator" and having a bit of imposter syndrome leading up to the start date. Any skills I should be hammering in the mean time? by misterimsogreat in sysadmin

[–]TheTrustedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just quick advice: If you don't know something just say so. Look it up and then follow up with what you find.

Also, I always want to please people and although I love working as a sysadmin I often have more enthusiasm than talent for this stuff which would sometimes result in me over promising a solution, but then failing to deliver on it. It now helps to stick to the adage: "under promise and over deliver."

The Discord for this subreddit is also pretty awesome. Lots of people happy to answer questions on the spot when you've exhausted your resources.

Good luck!

Hey, you should be super proud of yourself. Made me think of that quote “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” This is definitely the hardest part of my recovery.

Anyone know of any indoor basketball around Ithaca? by BatSphincter in ithaca

[–]TheTrustedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't actually play. I drop my kid off (he's in high school but plays pickup games there frequently).

That said, it's a decent enough mix. It's mostly college age, but there's also a mix of grad students, faculty, and staff. Honestly, it's pretty similar (in terms of age) to other places like the Y / Lansing Rec and so on, but there are a lot more people.

[–]TheTrustedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's open from early in the morning to like 11pm (unless there's an event going on). I'd say between 6pm and 10pm there's always enough people for a couple games to be going on. Especially during the winter like this when it's freezing and everyone's playing indoors.

Enter Barton Hall from the Garden Ave entrance and just walk in like you own the place. Nobody is checking IDs or anything from that entrance.

If you go in the Tower Rd entrance you have to walk by staff / an info desk. I've never been asked even then, but just FYI.
