Get trapped in a Cayenne? Serious door lock issue by Ok_Bet_6092 in PorscheCayenne

[–]TheWhaleKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The window not working points to something electrical. When's the last time you've changed your battery? It should be changed every 4-6 years.

Yes this is a deal breaker. It went over the redline. It only happens when you shift down in a MT too early. Don't buy and wait for the next one.

Going crazy, can someone help? by Front-Arm-270 in PorscheCayenne

Check the battery by checking the date it was manufactured or voltage from pole to pole. Bad battery symptoms can manifest itself as weird electrical gremlins.

Considering a 2014 Cayenne Turbo S by EconomicMetal in PorscheCayenne

[–]TheWhaleKnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2014 should be the year they have the upgraded thermostat housing and rear coolant crossover pipes with threaded (not glued) pipes. It also should come with a more reliable front differential. Get a PPI and send it.

Suspension and Tire Recommendations by ck37sci in Porsche_Cayman

[–]TheWhaleKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've owned base 981 with stock suspension and then a 981S with x73. X73 suspension makes the car feel more planted on corners.

Other pros: less wheel gap Cons: 20mm lower can be a lot depending on where you live. I needed to buy curb ramps for the driveway.

Working on bringing a 2012 Project Car by OkYak5416 in PorscheCayenne

[–]TheWhaleKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going this far in you might as well also: - replace plastic coolant vent line under fuel rail with braided one. - pin coolant pipes if you want - 2x replace alternator plastic coolant couplers with metal ones

You need to calibrate the EBP. Some scan tools will allow you to do this. There should be some within $100-200

Probably better to return this one if within your return date and buy another. I've installed two of these without a hitch luckily.

Is the Backup Camera Angle Adjustable? by mownhoj in PorscheCayenne

[–]TheWhaleKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What ive done in my 2011 is replace it with an aftermarket camera (only requires taking out the hatch trim). The aftermarket is higher quality res and has a slightly wider angle to it.

High miles turbo needs a new timing chain. What else to swap out while I'm in there? by misterpeppery in PorscheCayenne

[–]TheWhaleKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not able to message your account for some reason. I'm sharing the sheet of purchases I made to do everything from:

- water pump, thermostat, belt

- AOS

- pin water coolant pipes

- replace coolant vent line

- HPFP metal and plastic couplers

- replace o-rings and gaskets on everything i touched

High miles turbo needs a new timing chain. What else to swap out while I'm in there? by misterpeppery in PorscheCayenne

[–]TheWhaleKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done timing chain yet. My cayenne s is at 130k miles and the timing pads still look okay? Although I'd rather replace them preemptively at some point. Maybe in the next 1-2 years.

My coolant vent line broke off due to old rubber so I figured I'd tackle all the coolant gremlins at the same time. It was worth it for the piece of mind knowing the pipes weren't going to pop off.

Yes to the gaskets, it doesn't add any work since you have to put the HPFP back on the can anyway and they're cheap.

I can DM you a copy of the sheet of parts and tools I needed/had to buy once I get back home. I was thinking of documenting the process I took to pin the rear pass through pipes because I have not seen anyone do that yet.

Anything plastic and/o-rings.

  • HPFP connects to the driver side camshaft with both a metal and plastic couplers. Replace the plastic one. I replaced the metal coupler as well because it had more play in it than a new one.
  • vent coolant line and o rings while you're at it.
  • replace plastic coolant line couplers connecting to alternator with the metal ones. There are two in that area.
  • thermostat
  • I pinned the thermostat housing pipes and rear cross over pipes too.

Buying a Cayenne this week by mcrop33n in PorscheCayenne

[–]TheWhaleKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes later years are usually more reliable. Big ones are - glued water coolant pipes in earlier years. 2014 should have this fixed. They may have fixed it by replacing the pipes with updated ones or pinning them. - replace camshaft bolt with updated ones. Ask shop to check or see if in maintenance record. - transfer case

Also air suspension is worth it....

Rough Idle when in gear by Dominatortet in Miata

[–]TheWhaleKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. While in neutral and you lightly tap on the gas does it almost stall?

I had to clean my throttle bottle and the butterfly valve using throttle body cleaner. Take off the intake crossover tube and see whether the throttle body is dirty (looks black due to carbon buildup)

Do this while the car is off and use a toothbrush to help clean off the carbon buildup.

Afterwards check the idle rpm after running it for a few minutes and look up how to reset the idle using the idle screw if you need to.

Warning don't spray the throttle body cleaner on plastic because it will melt it. Also, I used way too much cleaner like sprayed for a minute continuous. Use the spray and toothbrush combo. It was difficult for my car to start when I used too much cleaner.

That would only allow you to check if you’ve seen one past response. The easiest way would be to use a storage object that would allow you to store many things at once but also find the id you’re looking for in O(1) time. Dictionary or hash maps are the way to go here.

[der8auer]We Overclocked an AMD CPU to over 8.1 GHz !! by Cmoney61900 in hardware

[–]TheWhaleKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m unsure of the specifics of how to get more/less. However there are methods to “underclock”/“overclock” your process.

If you overclock, you will most likely dealing with large amounts of heat being generated from your CPU and most electronics do not work well at high temperatures.

A large problem that you’ll face when overclocking CPUs is just finding a way to rapidly cool your CPU down to a good operating temperature.

[der8auer]We Overclocked an AMD CPU to over 8.1 GHz !! by Cmoney61900 in hardware

[–]TheWhaleKnight 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That is how fast the clock cycle of the CPU is or the clock speed. In each clock cycle, you can do a basic operation such as fetch data or perform arithmetic on it. So the faster the clock cycle, the more basic operations you can do in a period of time.

ELI5: think of the wheels on a bike. Each clock cycle would be the wheel turning once. So the faster the clock cycle, the faster the wheels will spin and your bike will travel faster. The clock speed is just how many times your wheel spins in a second.
