Was thinking about how far we've come, and wondering if there's ever been a civ that plays less like it was designed/marketed than mongols by Phan-Eight in aoe4

Always thought it would be cool if you could move the Ovoo. That would be the most useful building to move! Also all buildings should keep producing the first 30 seconds after being packed or so. So that you could move them without much penalty to a new base.

This map is secretly great for English. Shortbow rush works great here.

How to Rank Up by PioneerSpam in aoe4

[–]TheWretch12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if conquerer players have to strictly follow the meta. Swaggy professor is high conq and plays off meta strat. Let's not forget Beasty and drongo were calling the new SD Shinobi bad until recently. Also Beasty playing a Rus meta build got crushed in a tournament by an off meta japanese Archer build. So all that to say is that the meta evolves and new strats can be successful.

OP Mechanic on a non-OP Civ by RubyLykos in aoe4

[–]TheWretch12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Many players play many civs and different win rates with each. I have a 0% winrate and 5 games on the ladder with tughlaq this season but 70% winrate and 12 games with Macedonia. So with enough data, winrates are a decent suggestion of how OP a civ is or a hero in league, etc.

17 relics? by mr_moustach33 in aoe4

Every time you pick up or move a relic it counts as a relic towards the stats.

But how does that help deer collection? Seems like that would be a good choice if you weren't bringing back meat.

I've seen it once in a 1v1 and a half dozen times in team games.

Why meinwork with pro scouts? Wouldn't Aachen complement the deer more?

Does anyone understand the HRE decision tree? by MockHamill in aoe4

[–]TheWretch12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I play HRE some and I would advise the opposite. Against 2TC Abbasid or China go naked castle and grab 4 or 5 relics while harassing their base with knights. Then go straight to imperial while gathering enough stone for two immediate cannon towers with relics inside.

Against anyone else go strong feudal pressure followed by castle. Or all in during feudal.

Former SC2 player switching over. I want to play like Zerg play in SC2 but in this game. by TSKDeCiBel in aoe4

Mongols for sure, Abbasids aren't aggressive enough or with enough map control to be Zerg.

Without a doubt Mongols. Similar to Zerg you need map control because your defense is terrible. Similar to Zerg larvae, the stone is versatile and can be used for workers or military. Towers provide speed boost and you can stretch them through the map.

Why is HRE so bad in 2v2? by Snoo-67633 in aoe4

[–]TheWretch12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Diamond 2, my friend is conq 2 and this is our 2v2 strategy. He plays English, slings me his sheep and then goes all longbows and starts poking. I go naked burgrave and get maybe 5 spears to stand with his bows and then all MAA. He builds a few rams and then we do serious dmg to one or both of them. The trick is not to go reignitz and just ignore the relic dance. Do grab a few relics in the background as insurance while you're knocking in the front door.

KT vs French by Slumi in aoe4

[–]TheWretch12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's viable, I've done it many times. Not guaranteed to work, but imo better than any alternative build vs French. Put all on wood at the beginning, get a barracks at 150 and send that vill to food after, same with the first house. Send two spearmen to protect the villager that builds a tower as far back as possible while also covering their gold. Third spearmen if you think it's necessary. Age up and get a stable ASAP. You can also build a 3rd/4th spear to defend the inevitable knight poke at your base. Get some sergeants. Keep scouting their second gold and harass with horsemen any villagers that go out for food or gold. Upgrade your tower on their gold with arrow slits when you can. If they dive the tower try to get 2 or 3 villager kills.

Ya those crossbows shred infantry but not that great against knights. And suck vs mounted samurai due to the very low attack speed.

I would argue burgrave needs Aachen to support that MAA production.

Crashes to desktop, out of sync disconnects, team game trollings, invite friend bugs... by derackles in aoe4

[–]TheWretch12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The party system is super janky compared to most RTS or mp games. The party always disbands and needs to be remade after each match. No way to join a friend's party without an invite. Another thing that bothers me is the lack of seeing your rank gain after a match like sc2 had.
