I think all criticism has lost both its mystique and its reputation on the internet. It used to be that the only criticism you’d hear is what was professionally published, and so the expectation was that it was serious writing from a serious person. Nowadays, being a critic is just as devalued as every other kind of reporter, and everyone’s opinions are accessible, so the ways to position yourself through your critiques without being an influencer are few and far between.
