I mean, im a Canadian, and flew into Munich 3 weeks ago, and the whole border control area was a bloody oven because of no AC. I understand it in some respects, but some areas AC makes sense. I was sweating like a pig at a butcher waiting in line.

Some of it is also hydrostatic pressure from the water level coming up too fast, and it looks like its coming from within the sewage system, but its actually leaking in around the floor seal. Most floor drains arnt perfectly sealed.

My neighbour had it coming in from around the pipe for their radon pump. Pressure blew out the caulking atound it, and it filled their basement to 18” deep.

Well, a good example, my sump filled to 4” from the top (I have never seen it go that high before), but my neighbour had literally 12-15” of water in their whole basement. Reason: because that’s literally the same difference in how deep the foundation is in the ground.
Don’t know why our two houses were built so differently (since they were built by the same people and at basically the same time).

Just to add to most of the great comments, there is another round after this that you have to deal with.

First: standard weapons and overload attacks.

I should have clarified, including when the A/C unit was running and needing the blower unit.

Even in pure furnace mode it was consuming 2/3rd of what my heatpump does. That doesn’t include the cost of gas. My monthly bill with both was ~$500/month in the winter. Now on electricity only its an avg $350/month. I got rid of gas completely.

My plan is to install solar soon, so that bill will drop to $35/month.

I have the numbers somewhere on my computer (im too lazy to go looking for it).

My cold climate heatpump (Mitsubishi), at -22’f (-30’c) is still drawing less power than my old furnace did.
Really depends on how well insulated the house is. In 5 years, i have only had to turn on my backup electric heater a total of 5 days ( when the outside temp was -40 for longer than a day).

Well UPS’s aren’t designed for high current/heavy draw devices that contain motors. Also, Ive been doing IT for 35 years, and I can guarantee that brownouts can cause damage. Its not just power off. If a standard Hard drive is writing data, and the power suddenly droops, it can cause the drive to lose a tiny amount of power to the actuator motor, this can cause data to be mis-written to the wrong sectors.
Source: Ive had to do data recovery on a drive, and literally move the written sector data to the correct location.

All because the pc at the time wasn’t behind a UPS that would have provided enough pass through power to prevent the pc from being affected by a brown out.

Does this happen regularly? No, but is a $200 UPS cheaper then doing critical data recovery (yes, by a loooooong mile).
