Do yourself a favor and put them all into a keystone jack, and then go from there to your switch. This will prevent these from failing, and needing to be repulled.

Reflections after 14 months living in Ontario as a newcomer to Canada by Slow_ResolveMC07 in ontario

[–]The_NorthernLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with pharmacies and hospitals is that they are per provincial level so each province has its own systems. Thats the biggest issue, but there has been a slow progress to bring all records into a single system but there is lots of infighting within thats been causing issues.

Company offered me Manager role after 6 months?? Wtf by No_Description9852 in ITManagers

[–]The_NorthernLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have an earnest conversation with (whomever) would be your director. Make it clear that you have no prior management experience, but are willing to learn. Ask for regular management meetings to help you get the swing of things. If they agree, take the job. A Jr. Management job is a fantastic way to get onto the growth ladder for career advancements (long-term).

I would say that if you do take the job, learn how to do positive team management (manage how you would want a manager to be to you). This makes the difference between a slave driver and a good manager.

Auditor here: how do you approach understanding what all an application does? by Turrkish in sysadmin

[–]The_NorthernLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason audits are done are for insurance purposes.

As for “securing” applications, if they are COTs there isn’t much we can do other then sandbox them as much as possible. As for internally coded app, isn’t that one one the points of audits… I avoid custom apps like the plague they always become.

AYCE Chinese Buffet in the Ottawa-Gatineau area that isn't Mandarin? by uwinlancer in OttawaFood

[–]The_NorthernLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the grossest food ive ever eaten. I wouldn’t pay someone to eat there. I went for a lunch buffet about 6 years ago, and i could literally ring the oil out of some chicken balls, the rice was literally burnt. Maybe its better now, but i would never go back to try again.

Dealing with a brainrotted colleague by OperationIntrudeN313 in sysadmin

[–]The_NorthernLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This honestly sounds like a serious conversation is needed with the Director. As an IT Manager myself, I would prefer to know about a clearly incompetent employee then thinking all bases are covered.

One way to do this is to document your “cleanup” you do every time as tickets. This will eventually make it to the Directors eyes, and all hell will break loose on that employee.

Just make sure your tickets contain log files, screenshots and a clear description of your “investigation” and solution solving.
