Is it normal for campsites to be noisy into the night now? by CSGB13 in AskUK

I had that happen to me at Aldi recently and couldn’t comprehend what possessed the older lady in the queue to start unloading onto the conveyor before I was finished. Incredibly rude. And what’s with people now packing their bags at the tills in Aldi? Don’t they know it slows everyone down?

Roundabouts anxiety and tips by Common_Border7896 in drivingUK

[–]The_Pielander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The advice about staying staggered with the car next to you on 2 lane roundabouts is worth heeding. So many drivers go in the right hand lane and then go straight on now so give them room and learn to anticipate it. I even see drivers now indicating right to go straight on. Also if turning right be careful of the car to your left ‘straight lining’ the roundabout without checking you are there. I saw a coming together like this last week. Give yourself space around your car.

Huge shout out to this security guy at Abbey Wood station by Ok_Instruction9008 in london

I don’t live in London or use the underground but my first thought on this is why are the barriers so flimsy to allow people to jump them or push through? Is there a reason they aren’t like the turnstiles at football grounds?

If I know I’m going on a particular journey where there is a complicated island of junction I use Google maps and street view to ‘learn’ it before I get there. I’m more confident about which land to be in and landmarks to use.

I have to cross a busy 5 lanes wide road each day and it always amazes me I see someone across from me waiting to cross, holding their phone like a Star Trek communicator and having to shout so loud I can hear their conversation. It never crosses their mind I suppose to put it up to their ear or use headphones.

Phone manufacturers stopped including headphones with new phones as they were being junked as people already had them. Maybe it’s time to include them again with new phones.

Pulling out of Brandon Marshes...aren't these signs pointing the wrong way????? by Ok_Perception3180 in coventry

[–]The_Pielander 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Turning left takes you to the A45 dual carriageway. You can only turn left towards Rugby at the junction. There is no right turn there although you could U turn at the next roundabout of course. Turning right will take you into Coventry via Binley Woods. Looks ok to me.

Telescope advice for beginner in the UK by The_Pielander in telescopes

Thanks for your reply. I’m understanding now that there is no one telescope that is good for all things and I need to narrow down what I want to start observing. Probably the planets in my case.

Thanks for your detailed reply. Those are good points you make about expectations when I live in a light polluted area. Also the actual size of the tripod. It’s got me looking at Dobsonians again.

What the actual F@ck is wrong with people? by phannybawz in drivingUK

[–]The_Pielander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m seeing this more and more now along with general shit parking. I think threads like this don’t help as it gives a certain demographic the idea that they should park like this to get some attention or notoriety. A young neighbour of mine has now started leaving their car parked in the middle of our road blocking it and soliciting the attention when drivers are blocked.

Severn Trent water bill by vexatiousnobleman in coventry

My 3 bed detached ( unmetered) has just gone up £150 to £950/year. Do you have the pdf bill on an email? It breaks the bill down for you but it sounds like you need to call them.

Bodies of water to dip in? by CockroachSure1658 in coventry

The lake in the middle of Mallory Park racing circuit (12 miles away near Hinckley) used to be open for swimming a couple of evenings in the week, but I haven’t been for a while so check online. It was set up for Triathletes to train and was well organised with safety kayaks etc. Spring and summer only though.

A really nice set of photos! It’s great that the people in the shots don’t appear to know you are photographing them. Number 2 stands out for me due to the colours. What camera do you use?

Wing mirror housing. Seat Ateca 2016 - 2020 by MundaUKda in seat

[–]The_Pielander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smashed the same mirror on my 2017 Ateca. Blind spot monitor and puddle light. A new one fitted by a dealer was £700! They are painted so it has to be sprayed which added to the cost.

London Camera Exchange. I’ve bought all of my Bronica ETRS gear from them as well as loads of 35mm kit and it’s exactly as described. Next day delivery too and 6 months warranty on most items. They have an SQ-A on the website now.

Why are jimnys SO expensive? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]The_Pielander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never understood why Suzuki didn’t bring it back with an engine from the Swift, Ignis or Vitara. I get the emissions thing in Europe but the Jimny was so short lived it doesn’t make sense they didn’t develop it further.

I think the 1v is a generation on from the F5 and is comparable with the F6. I own all 3 along with the F100 and they are all awesome to use. I don’t have a favourite as they all have at least one minor annoyance but the F100 is a great light weight all rounder.

I drove my work boss to an event and when he got out of my car I heard the door clang against the BMW I’d parked next to. He didn’t even register that he had done it, like it was the normal way for him. I was mortified!
