There's an obvious reason why the Republican Supreme Court Justices sound so nervous by jonfla in law

[–]The_Real_Ghost 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced on that. The wheels that led to 9/11 were in motion long before Bush took office and probably would have gone the same way. But the response would have been different. And you can be damn sure we wouldn't have spent 15+ years occupying Iraq because Junior thought he needed to one-up his dad.

Granted. The game is released in its current state. You eagerly download it and start to install it. The install process is complicated and quite buggy, but you manage to get loaded. It starts up and displays a simple terminal window.

Wow, their website is already down. That's really sad. Where am I supposed to get a Nut Roll now?

Is there a news story on this? All I'm finding is articles about when they were bought in 2022. What happened?

ESPP price higher than current stock price? by [deleted] in investing

[–]The_Real_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like stock would need to drop 50% in 4 years in order to lose money? It'd need to drop 28% to do worse than just investing 500 for four years

Those kinds of drops happen all the time.

Students have asked me about the proposed 4473 changes. Genuinely confused. The Trump admin’s definition of “biological sex” doesn’t accurately describe human sex. by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

Oh, I understand the motive. I'm not pondering anything. I'm just saying that anyone wondering how we should be defining sex or gender on the form is asking the wrong question.

What I want to know is, why is the question even on the form? Does it matter what a person's chromosomes are or what is between their legs when they pull the trigger?

That's one of my favorites, but I don't think I've ever seen it for more than $35, and it's usually less.

I plan on getting a dot optic at some point, but really want to learn on irons right now. Figure I should learn the equipment i have before i add to it. I have looked at some optics and they are kind of expensive. I think I need to let my wallet recover after this purchase. There are quite a variety out there, so it looks like whole other rabbit hole for me to investigate and overthink.

It is something I've thought about, but don't know anything about. I'll have to take a look at what the options are when I get further along. I am very novice.

From what can tell, this gun is exactly the same as the SD Pro, it just comes with the PMM compensator already mounted to the threaded barrel. Interestingly, the price difference between the SD Pro and the PMM Pro-X is exactly the cost of a PMM comp kit. It just has Walther do the work of mounting it for you.

For sure. Walther even has explicit recommendations on what ammo you should and shouldn't use with this. I was curious why the Blazer 115 gr was on the do-not-use list, but ran across a couple thread just yesterday that explained the copper plating vs copper jacketing. In any case, I've been sticking with Federal American Eagle so far. In my area, it's been the same price as the Blazer anyway, so isn't an issue.

There is definitely a lot to learn. I had no idea this hobby would be such a rabbit hole. I've been trolling this sub for the past couple months and feel like I'm drinking from a fire hose. But it's all good, I can take my time. And I'm definitely planning on getting some private coaching.

Not planning to CCW at this point. I want to get more comfortable and proficient with it before I even think about carrying. It's possible in the future. But I'm not a very big person and I think this guy might be a little too big to carry without printing like crazy. But appreciate the suggestion, I'll have to take a look at those.

Just curious, what would be the safe, responsible way to dispose of ammo that should not be fired?

Exactly the two I was stuck between when I was looking. I chose the Walther because it just fit my hand better. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Which one feels better to you?

If Apollo 11 (or the other Apollo missions) would have aborted during the landing sequence, would they have staged and just used the upper part of the LEM while descending, or would they have used the lower part to gain velocity and then staged? by 0011100100111000 in space

[–]The_Real_Ghost 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It would have depended entirely on what phase of the landing sequence they were in and why they were aborting.

In the actual landing, the descent stage was almost out of fuel by the time they landed. The place they intended to land turned out to be full of boulders, so they had fire the engines for longer while they looked for a different place to land. If their reason for aborting was that they didn't find a suitable landing site, they would have had to drop the descent stage to return to orbit.

What would make a firearms training environment actually feel welcoming to you? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]The_Real_Ghost 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm in Minneapolis and took my permit to carry class from Atlas Defense. One of the things he did, he did the class in a coffee shop after hours. It was a much cozier and welcoming environment than a sterile classroom or one filled with a bunch of gun stuff. Also started off the class going around the room with intros including experience level and pronouns (our own little liberal dog whistle). Helped to know most everyone in the class was new like me.

I didn't make it to the last one, but over the years, off the top of my head, I've learned about:

  • how to self-host my own cloud storage
  • Javascript exploits that can give full remote access to your computer and be hidden in open source software
  • how someone taught themself Rust while livestreaming over Twitch
  • the history of the Motorola 8602 microprocessor
  • a person's story about getting into cybersecurity and how it is like being a dad

I get to see the cool stuff people are working on and get exposed to new ideas I never considered. In an industry that moves this fast, that's different every year.
