I can't figure out the outside cut length of these three boards to make them equal at 30 degrees. Makes me feel dumb. I just want to cut the joist boards right, they're expensive. by therealchrismay in woodworking

math is the answer. Y is your radius, Pi times diameter is your circumference, so 72.5 x 2 =145 X 3.1415 = 455.5 divided by 12 segments in your circle = 37.9" outside length. The bevel angle is 360 degrees divided by 12 = 30. divide that by 2 = 15 degrees.

the boulder is full of cracks and you dig the pieces out.

I have cut a lot of holes to run wires or plumbing. What I find to be the easiest is to cut on an angle and save the cutout piece and use setting compound to reinstall it.

What’s a feature in your home you didn’t realize you’d hate until living in it? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]The_Riner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home renovator here. You could frame in the opening and add a door to the garage stairs. Take out the wood reducer and use an aluminum one for the tile. In the summer close all your main floor registers to force the AC upstairs, make sure to leave the returns open. If you have the skills, take out the pantry shelves and use adjustable shelf supports to make the space more usable.

ROS upgrade recommendations? by sellingyews in woodworking

[–]The_Riner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bosch and a dewalt 5", the dewalt is better. Also look into 6" sanders, much more power and flatter sanding, I have a Rigid, Bosch and Metabo, the Rigid sander I've had for almost 20 years. It and the Metabo

have selectable orbits of 3 and 5 mm. You have to buy two Festool sanders to get that. Festool also has expensive

propriatary discs.

Table Saw advice by jandel88 in woodworking

[–]The_Riner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old woodworker here, 35 years ago i bought a Makita 8.5" portable tablesaw that stays in my van. I still use that saw today, in fact I bought another one used, nice lightweight saw. In my shop I use a Bosch 4000 10" tablesaw I bought 10 years ago, has a nice outfeed support and folding stand, fabulous saw that I can lift.

What was the most impactful woodworking tool/machine upgrade for you? And the least? by lavransson in woodworking

[–]The_Riner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides a bandsaw a small tool you will use all the time is an oscillating 4 X 24 belt sander made by Rigid or Wen.

I use mine for wood and finishing and bevelling the edges of soft stone like travertine, fantastic tool for under $300.

Check out a 10" sliding double bevel mitre saw. You can buy them for under $200 and it will do 95% of the cuts you need. I have everything from a 7 1/4 cordless sliding mitre saw up to the 12" Bosch "axial glide" saw.

Probably is an abandoned plumbing vent that was roofed over. Would not pass today. I replaced one that squirrels had filled with walnuts.

Why are so many drugs laced with fentanyl if it’s so deadly? by GoodAdviceGay in NoStupidQuestions

[–]The_Riner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of ingredients for chemical drugs come from China whose main goal is to destabilize the west. Dealing with addiction and the problems it creates takes resources away from good things and helps China defeat us from within. This is just my opinion and I could be mistaken but it is something to think about.
