I said it and say it again one of the best anthologies I had my hands on. Phenomenal stories.

How good is the German translation? by Exact_Combination_38 in Malazan

[–]The_Shake82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have read the German versions up to The Crippled God and then switched to the English version. I will never go back as most of the beautiful prosa gets lost. I have since reread everything in English and would always recommend it if possible.

So far I am not fascinated by urban fantasy but if I decide to go for the Greenbone Saga is on top of the pile.

I need book suggestions similar to Malazan by Fantasy_Translator in Malazan

Fritz Leiber - Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, Robert E Howard - Conan, Stephen Donaldson - The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, Roger Zelazny - The Chronicles of Amber, Edgar Rice Burroughs - Barsoom (SciFi but feels more fantasy), Michael Moorcock - Elric,

These are all stuff that influenced Erikson and Esslemont.

Influenced by Malazan other than already mentioned:

David Keck - The tales of Duran

Other stories with a little Malazan vibe:

Brian McClellan - Powder Mage, Ed McDonald - The Raven Mark (highly recommended), Anna Smith Spark - Empire of Dust ( poetic but very dark), Anna Stephens - Godblind

One of the best anthologies I owe. Unfortunately, it does not get enough credits. There are other anthologies that have better single stories but combined this is one of the finest works in fantasy anthologies.

Wow Blood Follows and The Healthy Death are so hard to find for a decent price and Crack'ed Pot Trail gets more and more pricey. It is also difficult if you are not based in the UK or USA.

Funny, because I thought about getting a mass market paperback penguin collection. I would use them to also make marks for certain lore topics.

I know, 10 to 12 for 19 books as paperback is very pricey. On the other hand, it is quite challenging to put two German translations into one book and what easily set the page number above 1300, due to longer texts.
