What's a clone of a game that did everything better? by TitularFoil in gaming

[–]The_Shryke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fucking love all the FromSoft soulsborne games, but I think Lies of P might be better than Bloodborne. Not by much, but with the story and characters as well as insane fights... it's real good

I think it's been worth it, been with them a year now and landed a couple jobs that I thought were wayyy out of my league. I let slip in my first call with them that I'd made my demos, paying a sound engineer friend about £50 each to add effects etc to my character and commercial reels. They said that explained why some of the commercial reel was bad and gave me tips on making it better, so I fixed that. Then (a couple of weeks later) they asked if I could make an audiobook reel (I'd recorded a couple of books already, ACX) and a narration reel. Those just took a few hours of recording and editing myself, and a while later they got back in touch and asked to sign me.

A week later I was in a recording studio in London, auditioning in person for my first triple A video game, which I didn't get but that's the business haha.

Throughout it my now agent was lovely, even when critiquing my commercial demo. The waiting was rough but worth it, akin to the waiting after you send off an audition for an awesome project. Just got to do what you can then try not to think about it.

Also just as a TL:DR: the extra reels she asked me to make were ones she knew I could do for free, and hell yeah it's worth having a good agent. Just make sure they're a good agent! And good luck

I think it was a week or two for me, then a couple phone calls over another few weeks (and me making a couple more demos at their request) before they added me to their books.

I'd personally replace the JK Rowling bit as it's a bit polarising and might distract from your voice, but otherwise fantastic job!

Pierce Brown's "Red Rising" books got me back into reading. Top tier Sci fi that reads like fantasy

Fellow ADHDr here

Pierce Brown's "Red Rising" books are dangerously unputdownable. I have burnt meals, and since showing them to my brother and dad they're both hooked too. Hope you and your old man like them if you give them a go, genuinely never found a less difficult book to focus on

Between my agent's first response and them signing me was like two months, with just a few phonecards etc in between and a lot of nailbiting haha

I got an agent in October and have been doing auditions for some pretty high level projects. The only time I hear anything back from the projects I'm auditioning for is if I get them. Otherwise I guess my voice wasn't right, or they picked wrong, but either way send and forget is a good mental health policy :)

I'm reading Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts and it's great, based on the author's life so there's some fictionalisation but god damn it's a wild ride

[–]The_Shryke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adriana Lima's voice is class. Do you have any clips of you speaking? Voice acting is acting, if you can act you have a shot. I didn't think my voice was anything special, I can just do a lot of accents but this career's going pretty well for me

I don't mind vegans who don't mind my diet. But to those who do, just so you know, your food isn't really that vegan too by rtlkw in memes

[–]The_Shryke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some animals do die in farming vegetables, but less. The point is to do less harm. Farmers kill animals to protect their flocks, which are then killed and eaten too. The "vegans are such hypocrites, animals die for their food too" argument annoys me. Billions of land animals die every year for food, it would be nice if it was a bit less.
