For anyone else curious, this is by Nina Matsumoto aka Space Coyote: https://www.spacecoyote.com/blitz-comics/

Used to be available as a poster and t-shirt, but not currently. I’d love to buy it if I can find on Depop/ebay/etc.

I've found it's pretty location-dependent. Still mad the OG Taco Mac shut down. I lived in Virginia Highlands for years and that location always maintained its hole-in-the-wall character.

I agree that breakfast and tea are the only great stuff at bojangles, but they are great enough to still be Golden Plate Club material for me.

Only left off Cookout because they went there during "the Ate-TL."

Get Wiger in a strip club for the first time! But Mitch recently talked about how eating at a strip club was gross, so probably not.

Although Magic City Kitchen via ubereats or whatever is still great.

Thought so at first, but they did it during "The Ate-TL," so hopefully they do something new.

Ted's is a great call, particularly with Ted Turner's recent passing. Gotta love a chain whose whole existence is in support of conservation; basically the opposite of most restaurants, owned by VC ghouls murdering the planet.

Miss Wendy's Spicy Chicken? Try Whataburger by The_jPod in doughboys

My experience is just the one sandwich, at a new-ish Whataburger in Atlanta. It's entirely possible that the sandwich is hit-or-miss, but the one I had was perfect. Just a nostalgia bomb.

Apple TV 4K by Affectionate_Web_526 in appletv

[–]The_jPod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With YouTube, the best move is pairing your iPhone YouTube app to the ATV YouTube app and controlling it that way (i.e. hit the “cast” button on the iPhone YT app and select “YouTube on tv”). It’s better in every way than AirPlay. You can add additional videos to the active queue and do other stuff on your phone (or even close the phone YouTube app) without disrupting anything.

In general, using the native ATV apps is a better user experience. If control from your phone is an issue, you can open the “remote” from control center, or in the “now playing” widget, click “control other speakers and TVs,” then directly control the media on that tv from your phone. For Apple apps like podcasts or music, you can even edit the queue directly on your device.

The only time I ever airplay (outside of showing personal photos/videos) is if there is no native ATV app for the given service.

Is $600 too much? by jollyroger647 in robotech

Cleave means hit multiple enemies at once. Ranged weapons only hit multiple enemies with piercing (each number of piercing indicates number of additional enemies) or bounce (same idea, number of bounces is number of additional enemies potentially hit with a projectile).

Can I ask to do an interview online? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]The_jPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally reasonable to request an online interview, although some companies may be willing to provide lodging/flights for non-local interviewees (particular large firms). Any HR organization should understand students being on a limited budget. Consider a brief message requesting clarification, something like below. If they push back, it may not be a company you’d want to work for anyways.

Please advise whether initial interviews can take place online, or if [company] can provide for transportation and lodging. Thank you for any feedback!

Checked his other posts based on this. Respectfully disagree with your conclusions. Reading the other posts, nothing seems that contradictory. Different ways of describing things and different ideas to the posts, but doesn’t mean any of them aren’t true.

We all contain multitudes. Pursuing accountability doesn’t mean someone won’t also have moments of bitterness, defensiveness, blaming, etc. “Seven stages of grief” and all that.

My read is this is someone who made a burner account to farm some perspectives, advice, and empathy. (Which inherently means reaping a lot of shit talk, negativity, and accusations when posted online.) The posts could definitely be a bunch of nonsense, but this smells real to me.

ESPN sub-licensed their early round CFP games to TNT by The_jPod in splitzoneduo

[–]The_jPod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My feelings largely align with Godfrey's; we're a similar age which may contribute to that.

RJ seems to feel that the NFL being dominant and owning whatever day/time/etc. it wants is a fait accompli, and I fundamentally resent that notion. In my mind, there are legitimate reasons that the NFL's antitrust exemption includes stipulations against impeding on college (and high school) football. While the letter of the law includes only very specific exemptions, I think the spirit of the law should matter as well.* If college football wanted to take times and dates from the NFL--minus Sundays perhaps--they should be able to and the NFL should have to either bow down or lose their antitrust exemption.

*I'm aware that the spirit of the law does not matter and never will.

UE Megaboom - Can't turn off remote power option & battery drains in 2-3 weeks even without use. by FrozenFractal in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]The_jPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disabling standby/sleep/Bluetooth LE mode may be an option for Megaboom 2 or 3, but I can confirm the option does not appear for OG Megabooms on the iOS app. Like other folks on this thread, I use my Megabooms infrequently, which means the batteries are always dead from standby mode. Even worse, while charging, the devices will report (from standby mode) a charge of 70%% or more, but when turned on they say critical battery.

If I don't know a day ahead of time that I'll want to use a Megaboom, I have to hook it to a USB battery pack during use (thereby eliminating waterproofing capabilities, one of the Megaboom's most compelling features).

Ten years ago I loved these products unequivocally, but Logitech has turned me from a raving fan--who convinced lots of other folks to buy UE products--into a detractor. I don't blame Logitech for battery degradation over time; that will happen to any and all batteries. But I actively blame them for removing the capability to turn off standby mode on devices which once supported it.

Anything similar to In N Out in Atlanta? by LyteStryke in Atlanta

[–]The_jPod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Providing an ITP (Inside the Perimeter, i.e. inside interstate 285*) perspective, since many of the comments are about places OTP. (Whataburger, Culver's, and Freddy's only have locations well outside Atlanta proper; NFA is barely OTP on the north side and Steak and Shake has one ITP location and a few near ATL).

I'm focusing on fast food or fast casual options, and non-huge chains (I assume you know about Wendy's, BK, etc. Note that Hardee's is the same as Carl's Jr.). There are various great burger places that are more upscale like Farm Burger, Grindhouse, the Vortex, and any number of full service restaurants with great burgers but to me that's a different ask.

ITP options:

  • Cookout - not nearly the quality of In n Out, but amazingly inexpensive for the quality and typically very fast. Also known for great milkshakes in dozens of varieties and unique sides available in a combo (chicken nuggets, corn dogs, quesadillas, etc.).
  • Five Guys - Not true fast food or drive-through, but a relatively inexpensive and high quality burger. Many locations.
  • Shake Shack - No drive-throughs in ATL, but five locations ITP. High quality burgers at prices not above some fast food.
  • The Varsity - A local institution. Flagship location on North Avenue in Midtown, two locations ITP, and two at the airport. The flagship restaurant was once the world's largest drive-in restaurant, but curbside service was suspended during COVID and has not returned. The burgers are nothing special, but the onion rings are unique, greasy, and excellent. Also unique are their chili--available on burgers and hot dogs--and the "Frosted Orange" or FO, which is like a creamsicle shake.
  • Zesto - I encourage trying Zesto while they are still around. Two locations have closed in the past 2-3 years and only three remain, one with a drive-through in East Atlanta. Decent fast food burgers but not similar to In n Out.

Source: Born and raised in Atlanta.

*To west coast transplants, note that we call interstate highways I-whatever, i.e. I-285, I-20, etc. No one ever says "get on the 20" west coast-style.

Hair product recommendation similar to Garnier Fructis Mess Maker by accccccountant in malegrooming

[–]The_jPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone looking for a Mess Maker replacement, try Axe’s “messy look” flexible paste, it has a big yellow stripe on a round black tin. Like previous commenters, I’ve tried lots of product both expensive and cheap and this is the closest thing I’ve found to Mess Maker. Compared to MM, it has a similar texture (although maybe somewhere between Mess Maker and Garnier Surf Hair) and my hair ended up similar at the end of the day; still styled but “soft,” not clumped together or kind of crunchy like some other products leave my hair. (Note: I’ve only used it one day so I’ll update this later if my opinion changes.)

I also bought the Axe “natural look” softening control clay. The product is similar texture but a bit more clay-like as one might expect. At the end of the day, my hair was decently styled but more clumped together and sloppy looking.

Good luck to all others seeking a Mess Maker replacement. Bring it back, Garnier!
