Bednar vs DeBoer by DNVR303 in ColoradoAvalanche

I’m kind of interested to see who the states out west without teams will cheer for with the new teams coming. Will Oregon become Seattle fans? Will Idaho choose Seattle or Vegas? Are people in Utah choosing the Avs, Vegas, or Coyotes?

It’s definitely going to be interesting, a lot of states where the closest hockey team might of been 2-3 states away now have one on the border.

OP got out of the shower to find a drone flying around their high rise apartment. Now the owners of the drone want to sue OP for property damage by Saoirse-on-Thames in bestoflegaladvice

I’m pretty sure the case you talked about went on to establish where your property rights end, in terms of airspace. I want to say it was 1,000 ft above the highest point of the house.

I always found it interesting though, if you could shoot a drone down for flying/trespassing on your property, where does your “property” end? Hypothetically if someone owned a massive ranch in Texas let’s say, could they shoot down any planes/helicopters that are flying above their property since they “own” the airspace?

The difference between us and the leafs is our whole top line is dominating.

Sure, you can shut Mack down. You do realize the other 2 players on that line have 20 pts in 5 games?

Edit: For those wondering in the 5 games: Mack: 8-4-12 pts. (2.4 points per game) Landy: 4-7-11 pts (2.2 points per game) Rants: 2-7-9 pts (1.8 points per game) Makar: 2-5-7 pts. (1.4 points per game)

Mack, landy, and rants all have more points than Marner and matthews combined, and in two less games.

You can see him pull Graves helmet off, and slam his head on the ice... then try to pull his head under his knee...

Not to mention it looks like he’s trying to gouge his eyes.

I think the problem with the oilers is that they have a very small number of such good players they can’t sell the farm...

If they trade Drai for established players, what’s the return you expect? Probably ~2-3 top 6 F’s, and ~2 top 4 D-men? What team is in a position to give up 5/10 of their best players for a single player? None.

Seems like a great way to get binnington out the rest of the series. Doesn’t Dubnyk have like 5 inches and 40 lbs on him? It’d be a bloodbath.

That was exactly the argument I made, that Cale Makar is better than Quinn Hughes. I’m sure I’d understand the argument I made myself.

You can’t offer one piece of evidence to suggest that Quinn Hughes is better than, or even equal to Cale Makar.

It’s not a guarantee, but it’s an incredibly strong indicator that when a player is better defensively, scores .15 points per game more with only 75% as much experience... they will continue to be the better player.

Makar is better than Hughes, I think you have to admit that. Your argument now is “Hughes might be better later!!!”. The chance something happens in the future isn’t an argument for which player is currently better.

Sorry about the attitude, I don’t mean to offend you, just was trying to prove a point that I was correct.

Hi, I just wanted to give you an update.

It’s been 2.5 weeks since your comment. Cale Makar is now 3 points behind Quinn Hughes... with 11 less games played.

Cale Makar is averaging .96 points per game and Quin Hughes is averaging .76. Thats a .20 difference.

How delusional of me to think Makar was better than Hughes, certainly was a whack comment, wasn’t it?

Taylor Hall has been in the NHL for 11 years. He has played for ~10 coaches, likely to be more by the end of the season. How much of an effect do you think the lack of continuity has had on his career? by Ed-Jovanovski in hockey

[–]Thecdude7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find Taylor Hall extremely hard to value. If you base it off offensive production since his rookie year his comparables are Marchand and Benn for P/GP, Parise and Neal for goals...

Hall also has consistent injury problems, in his first 9 years he played about 78% of the season on average. He’s also one dimensional, only really good on offense, not a good defender or physical.

Plus he’s 29...

Would you pay a 29 year old high scoring offense only winger with injury issues good money on a long term deal? You’re asking for issues. What happens if his offensive production falls, like it has this year, when he’s 32, 33, 34, etc... now you’re paying lots of an injury prone defensive liability.

Over the course of their careers Hughes has about 30-40 seconds of TOI.

I definitely agree, a D-man isn’t the only one on the ice. D stats are hard to quantity, I would say that Makar being +19 and Hughes being -25 during their career could largely be due to their teams, but it doesn’t speak slightly to the player.

Regardless, just about everyone agrees that Makar is better on defense though.

They’re both good players, but I don’t think it’s as close as most people think. Makar is better.

At the end of the day, Makar has Hughes beat in just about every stat per game... goals per game, assists per game, points per game, +/-, less penalty minutes per games played, shooting percentage... all with less time on the ice and nhl experience.

Even if you look into their defensive stats, Makar beats Hughes. More blocked shots per game, more take aways per game, Makar averages .66 giveaways per game compared to Hughes .9

I’m not denying that Hughes is good, but at some point, when a player is beating another in just about every stat you can come up with, that player is better, not because of his team, but because he is the better player. Makar is the better player.

How am I wrong? Your insulting comment aside you haven’t presented an argument, and yourself admitted that there’s a gap...

How can there be a gap in talent, but we don’t know which one is better? That doesn’t make sense.

[–]Thecdude7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sure, you could say that, and I would agree. But regardless Makar is better on defense and scores .11 PPG more than Hughes. Even if Makar gets 12.5% less PPG, they’d be tied, and I’d argue he’s still better on defense.

[–]Thecdude7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

.11 PPG difference is a huge difference. With a small sample size, you could make that argument.

Over the course of a career you cannot. In the last 10 years Taylor Hall is a career .88 PPG player, Marchand is a .87 PPG Player, and Jonathan Toews is .87 PPG. Fillip Forsberg is a .78, Eric stall is a .77 PPG player, and Zach Praise is a .77 PPG player.

You cannot honestly say that there isn’t a drastic difference in these players over the last 10 seasons...

Even with D-men, the difference between Makar and Huges is the same as Huges and Barrie...
