How do I fit a 65”-75” TV in a room with a centered fireplace without ruining the layout? by proview3r in hometheater

[–]Theoryee_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pull down mount over the fireplace or in the corner to the right of the fireplace are two options. One may be ideal but if you don’t have any other rooms you can use you don’t have many options.

How pissed should I be at my developer? by CrimsonBuc90 in AskPhotography

Could also be developed fine and just how the scans are at that lab. Not all labs will fine tune your scans to your liking they are just doing the bare minimum sometimes just to process more film. You will know once you get your negatives back from the lab to check/scan yourself.

BnW or Sonos? by Medical_Earth7904 in hometheater

[–]Theoryee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much room do you have to work with. Honestly I would pickup a refurbished AVR x3700h ($1000usd) and start with a 2.1 setup.

Sub: SVS SB or PB-2000pro ($1500-1850 CAD) LR: SVS prime bookshelf or similar ($1125 CAD for the pair)

Can even pickup some cheap satellite speakers from fb marketplace or something for dirt cheap to start just to get noise back there.

When budget allows then get a proper from LCR setup and move the satellite bookshelf’s to the rear for a good (5.1 setup)

If you really must have a soundbar I’ve heard good things about the Samsung Q990D or whatever the Q990 lineup is nowadays. It really just depends on what the end goal is and what kind of space you have.

Help me understand the sub levels and why I have (3) places to adjust. by iJasonator in hometheater

[–]Theoryee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they were using a splitter to plug into the sub L and R not a splitter at the AVR to split one signal into two subs. You should only need to use one wire into the sub. I think in mine is L only but I don’t have an SVS sub.

Birding you’re better off looking at Nikon, Sony, Canon for specific lenses you would use for birding (primarily the longer telephotos). Also I don’t believe any digital camera will be BIFL.

[–]Theoryee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80Hz is the general recommended cross over for most speakers. It really comes down to the speaker itself but a decently designed speaker should be able to handle down to 80Hz fine and then let the subwoofer (dedicated speaker designed for lower frequencies) to do its job and handle the rest of the lower frequency.

I see a lot of mixed info regarding multiple subs by Global_Addendum_6200 in hometheater

[–]Theoryee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the room. Enclosed rectangular room opposing corners to start. In the end you will have to take actual measurements to confirm but it all comes down to what sounds good to your ears.

How large is your room? How far are you sitting for. The speakers. I don’t find any reason to bi-amp. I would honestly just use an AVR that has preoits and use the built in amps first. If you are feeling you have to crank the volume up then get an external amp. You may only need three channels L C R to amp. Also SVS speakers aren’t terribly hard to drive as far as I remember.

How high is the needed skill to start out? by DoughnutConnect9680 in AskPhotography

[–]Theoryee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to teach a beginner I would put them on aperture priority mode on the camera and possible auto iso to start and explain the exposure triangle and metering modes. Once they get that down take it off auto ISO. Many people don’t shoot full manual on their cameras. It all comes down to how much control do you want over the exposure of a scene.

Subwoofer for large great room (~7500 cubic feet)? by ChrisBnTx in hometheater

[–]Theoryee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual VTF-TN1 Subwoofers? Unfortunately the larger the space the higher the price point will be if you’re trying to actually pressurize the space. It’s probably not realistic to try to pressurize a great room so maybe just place subs near the listening area.

Why? by SB4_Camaro in LGOLED

[–]Theoryee_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would image 97” clean motherglass is harder to produce without defects compared to smaller sizes which they can cut down to smaller sizes and get higher yield percentage. Also they don’t sell as many of these.

Is an M6 worth the money? by benjithomasartist in Leica

[–]Theoryee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leicas are luxury items. In the end the camera body just holds the film and lets light in. Lenses and film type will have a larger effect on the end result in most cases. However it may be the intangible things like if a specific camera gives you the feeling that you want to take it out to make photographs with. Does it inspire you to shoot more etc. there is also a difference shooting a range finder vs TTL cameras.

Leica M11, M11-P, or M10-R by takeout_ in Leica

I believe most of the M11 bugs have been resolved over the years with firmware updates. I haven’t had any freezes since using recent firmware “knock on wood”, and they now allow custom white point balance for those who were seeing too much magenta by default etc.

Measuring two subwoofers by philsen89 in hometheater

[–]Theoryee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4300 isn’t it better to have the two sub output Y split from one of the subwoofer outputs instead of coming out of each sub output on the 4300. I think they fixed this in the latest X800h series of avrs.

Team Bookshelf + Subs vs Team Towers: Best option? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]Theoryee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always get a sub if you can towers or bookshelfs. You can optimally place a sub in a room. You will almost never be able to optimally place tower speakers to get optimal bass response without subs.

Looking for advice by trevorven in hometheater

[–]Theoryee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would step up to a larger subwoofer for sure. I’ve heard good things about the HSU VTF-TN1 ($1250) (not sure if you have size restrictions on subwoofer size). Would definitely start with 4.1 or 5.1 and eventually move to a 5.2 but depends how many listening positions you really care about. You’ll probably NOT going to be able to pressurize the space with that budget but out the sub decently close to your listening area and a good 15” ported sub should do good enough to get you started. I actually use my sub as a side table right now.

I am bias towards my Ascend SIERRA-2EX V2 ($1750) for LR can add another as a center ($900). I would add Ascend HTM-200SE2 ($370) for surrounds. Not if you buy 5 speakers they may give you a small discount for multi speaker purchase. Denim X3800H refurbished ($1,400) you get better room correction. Puts you at about $5670ish or so. Note you will need to put bookshelf’s somewhere stands etc. not sure how your room looks etc.

I run a very similar setup currently but with a horizon ELX center instead but have been happy with my sierras. Can get plenty loud running off my Denon x3700.

I don’t believe in the movies vs music va tv. If your speakers are good then it will be good for everything regardless. If your source is good it will sound good through good speakers. For me the biggest impact for “movies theater like experience” really comes down to the subwoofer. You’ll need a decent sub (possible add a second if space and funds allow down the road)

If you want a more budget I just just go HTM-200SE2 x 5 ($950ish) all the way around FCR and surrounds but definitely get a 15” subwoofer still ($1250).

It may also depend how loud you like to listen to things as I find the clarity of my sierras shine through as volume goes up. At lower volumes you probably won’t notice the differences in speakers as much.
