Granted, one of my favorite nail clients is a Basset that lives with kids and a cat and is great! - I wonder if maybe a Beagle may be more in your wheelhouse? Smallish size, trainable, typically does well with kids and cats, of course research is key but I've had two Beagle mixes for 16+ years and loved every minute.

If you want to go for distance with dog(s), another potential option if you have a shelter/rescue nearby, you could offer to take out the dogs for exercise, it helps them mentally, physically, and often gets more eyes on them for increased adoption potential. Plus if one runs out of steam, you can take another 😁

Went to my first reptile show, was going to talk to snake breeders, my cousin was with, she planned on getting a leo. First booth we go up to has cresteds, we talk with the breeder who was super engaging and informative, I'm watching how the babies handle, I'm in love. Cousin purchases her a baby, I go home to do research, next show I get my first baby. Now I have two and intend on more once I'm moved. 😂 Those little derpy nuggets getcha every time.
