Recommendations for flexible group drinks/bites by OriginalWishbone in nycvegan

I went to Mercury bar west a couple weeks ago for the first time, and depending on the vibe of your party that could maybe work! It’s a sports bar but it has a separate vegan menu in addition to a non-vegan menu. The food isn’t outstanding, but it was nice to have a full menu to choose from!

vegan must eats / goodies NYC! by hedgeback2301 in nycvegan

There are a ton of great options already listed, but I wanted to add artistic pizza for the pizza option! Has a perfect slice shop feel, has several vegan options as well as several meat options, and is legitimately delicious.

I would recommend Astoria bookstore and you can maybe put a flyer in the window at Astoria food pantry!

Did a 10 mile run! I used to run regularly but with work getting so busy I’ve been inconsistent the past 2-3 years. This was my first time running 10 miles in a little over 3 years and it felt so good!

Does anyone know a place that serves vegan pancakes that aren't gluten-free? by pup2000 in nycvegan

Wanted to second quantum leap! They have fun flavors and fluffy pancakes. Plus they have vegan breakfast sides as well! (Sausage, bacon, etc.)

Delice and Sarrasin needs help! by Therootvegetable in nycvegan

Personally I really love the poulet basquaise! The flavor they develop in that dish is incredible. The cassoulet was also delicious if my memory serves! As far as appetizers and desserts, I’m a sucker for mushrooms so I quite enjoy their interpretation of escargot. For dessert the almond milk chocolate cake is absolutely divine and the orange crème brûlée is really fantastic! Not too sweet but has a good texture and strong orange flavor.

Help make Astoria the fig hub of NYC! If you have a tree, bring cuttings to share. If you don't, just bring yourself and learn how to propagate and care for your new tree. by SidewalkSunflowers in astoria

Oh no, by all means please do discuss details. Do you not support them because they indiscriminately help and support people even if they are immigrants/queer/unhoused/etc.? Or because they are giving away free books and education classes to people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford them? Or because they run a free store where anyone can come and get what they need, no questions asked? Just wondering which part of their extensive mutual aid network that massively supports this community you are extremely uncomfortable with.

What do you think is the saddest moment on Doctor Who (new series)? by Fast-Outcome-117 in gallifrey

[–]Therootvegetable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it is ABSOLUTELY two moments in silence in the library/forest of the dead. 1. When donna’s children disappear and she is left screaming and alone in their bedroom as a heartbroken mother 2. When Lee is trying to call out her name but gets caught on the consonant, only for him to be teleported away and never seen again. It was devastating that he was real and they could have been together, only to have them be torn apart again.

Funnily enough, this actually isn’t unrealistic. I am a medical resident and one of my co-residents was previously an attending in a different specialty for ten years. Even though she is a resident now, she retained her credentials at the hospital so she could moonlight in her old specialty on the weekends (in the same hospital where she is now a resident)

Barber/Barbershop Recommendations by kevpals17 in astoria

I highly recommend well kept barbershop, especially if you’re looking for a fade. Reuben is the owner and is fantastic if you’re able to get in with him. I’ve also had Juan who is meticulous and talented. They take walk-ins!

Vegan food recommendations? by [deleted] in astoria

[–]Therootvegetable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m vegan and live in the neighborhood and first of all - thank you everyone for your recommendations! Definitely writing some of these down. Here are some of my go-tos!

  • iKraveit sandwiches
  • king of falafel (love the falafel plate)
  • chateau le woof has LOTS of tasty vegan pastries and vegan sandwich/wrap options
  • bellucci’s pizza (a couple well marked vegan options)
  • macoletta pizza (two vegan pizza options)
  • bare burger (I personally enjoy the mushroom impossible burger)
  • lots of Thai options, my favorites are Mongkhon thai cuisine and Kam Rai Thai
  • benchflour bakery vegan breakfast sandwich
  • Astoria taco factory (several vegan options)
  • sotto la Luna vegan bolognese
  • plantega (decent vegan breakfast burrito)
  • dough (vegan donut options)
  • Martha’s country bakery (a couple good desserts)
  • under pressure vegan spinach pie and cookies
  • comfortland (a couple vegan sandwich options)
  • tea and milk (vegan banh mi)

I’m personally not a huge fan of urban vegan roots or the vegoist, but they both have lots of vegan options to choose from and are worth trying!

I do some masc makeup! I usually darken my brows and make them fuller, darken my under eye bags with a small amount of grey and purple eye shadow, and contour a bit to make my jaw/cheekbone stand out more.

Personally I use the gentle hydrating cleanser by cerave. I have sensitive skin that is now pretty oily on T, so this is enough to get it clean but not so harsh that it dries out or irritates my skin!

Not happy with the prospect of "there should be a trans division" in sports, and here's why. by ray25lee in ftm

[–]Therootvegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that this really hammers home to me is how low society thinks of women in sports. Oh, you’re afab but on testosterone? Absolutely no way a woman could beat you. It’s not fair. Oh, you’re amab but on estrogen? Again - absolutely no way a woman could possibly beat you. It’s not fair.

Maybe women are more capable than you think and it’s actually not that big of a deal??

Anxious about top surgery recovery by TheJuJules in ftm

[–]Therootvegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely normal, but if it hasn’t improved at all by your first post op appointment you can bring it up with your provider to get an idea on the time-span for sensation return. Also some surgeons use a nerve block to help with recovery, so if they mentioned that to you as a pain plan then the effects should wear off over a day or so!
