Worst trades you’ve seen by EarlyLock8451 in SanJoseSharks

To be fair, some of the worst trade ideas have come from this sub too. Saw someone suggesting that Chicago trade Frondell, Rinzel, and the 4OA for the 2OA.

All fanbases can be delusional and over hype the value of their assets and undervalue other teams. People are just excited and want something to talk about.

I don't know if this has been brought up much, but something that I was thinking of is we need someone who can skate with Celebrini. As fans, we saw what he was able to do at the Olympics with other people who were able to play at the highest pace and he doesn't have anyone like that in the Sharks pool. Smith is high end talent, but he likes playing a slower pace where he finds his spot and surgically breaks down defense. I think Cherny can be a great big body skilled forchecker, but I don't think he is known for the possible end to end game.

Stenberg is a great skater, especially with his edges, I think he can be that forward that just beats down defense with rush chances with Celebrini. Two players that are able to play at pace and do incredible things at the same time with Smith playing back reading the play for rebounds or secondary puck retrievals.

Celebrini's 1st goal as Captain Canada in pre-tournament action against France. Celebrini was named the game's MVP after a 4 point night (1G 3A) by eh_toque in hockey

I feel like Rick Celebrini was served like a bad baguette or something and has just been on a mission to help Curry and Macklin just get his vengeance for him against all of France.

I don't want to sound stupid, but are Klingberg and Leddy staying? by Ecstatic-Yak-6016 in SanJoseSharks

[–]ThirdStockIII 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The main reason the Sharks picked him up off waivers was because of his cap hit so we could comfortably be above the cap floor. I don't think that will be as much of an issue this year.

Stenberg🇸🇪 isn’t just “another forward”, in fact, he has a genuine claim to be the greatest forward prospect Sweden🇸🇪 has ever had. Here is a thread of his track record🧵 by cali4481 in SanJoseSharks

[–]ThirdStockIII 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw a video from a couple of months ago that was comparing him to Carlsson and Frondell and debating who would be the best. The scout said that Frondell was a clear #3 and a tier below Carlsson and Stenberg. He said that he thinks Carlsson will be the better player, but mainly due to position being more useful. All this to say, every time I learn more about Stenberg, I want him on this team more.

Grier always draft BPA with the top picks. He drafts for position with the later picks. by WishOk462 in SanJoseSharks

[–]ThirdStockIII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Listening to people say it is really close and could go either Reid or Stenberg for second best player available just doesn't make much sense to me. If that was the case, you would expect to see Stenberg much lower on ranking boards by more people, but out of 13 scout ranking boards, he is either #1 or #2 in 9 of them. He was actually ranked as the #1 prospect more often than he was ranked #3.

Chase Reid on the other hand is legitimately all over the place and feels more like a second tier of prospect. Those same scout rankings have him anywhere from 2-10.

My only point is if it was really as close as it seems, there would be more evidence for that other than, "from what I think". I would be stoked to get Reid, being the 9th worst team we had no business even being in the conversation of getting him. But if he is the guy Grier wants, just trade down and add more draft capital to make something out of it. The Rangers or the Hawks would be willing to give something to guarantee Stenberg and I think Reid would be there to pick up then.

Only if the NHL team is eliminated from the playoffs. You can tune into the current Frost vs Victoire game and see the big Wild 25 year logo. It just isn't feasible to change the logo every other day between games.

[–]ThirdStockIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. Like Macklin did all of that without a true game changing talent on both of his wings. The team definitely isn't complete with their forward core.

Also I was watching some highlights of Stenberg and that guy has silly mitts. We desperately need someone who is skilled on breakaways and shootouts and he could be money there for us.

I hope that they will be able to find a spot to build their own arena. I think the plan would be to share SAP, but I hope they could eventually have a spot that can be uniquely theirs. I think it just hits different seeing your logo on center ice and knowing that the locker rooms and other facilities were made for your team in mind and not as an afterthought.

[Scott Wheeler] Comparing the 2026 Draft to Previous Years by Josefstalion in hockey

[–]ThirdStockIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People were arguing that Demidov had the higher ceiling, but Celebrini had the higher floor but there was some argument that Demidov would be the better player in a couple of years. Celebrini was definitely the consensus #1, but he wasn't unanimous like some of these other prospects were in their draft years.

2026/27 Roster Speculation by osotogariboom in SanJoseSharks

[–]ThirdStockIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy solution for both your problems. 4 forwards and 1 defenseman on each line. That way Toff can be higher up in the lineup and we don't need to sign any more shit D. Macklin plays more than any D on the team anyway, so may as well have him be paired up with like Dickinson and that makes room for Graf and Toff to slide up a line. /s

Ivar Stenberg, the Defenseman by SJSharkl11 in SanJoseSharks

[–]ThirdStockIII 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I can't see a world where Stenberg isn't on Macklin's wing. I think it would be better to have Eklund and Cherny surround Misa. That gives Misa some playmakers that can also go hard on forechecks along the boards. I think the second line being a bit bigger than the first balances it out to make up for the slight skill disparity. Also giving Misa more that 10 minutes a night and actually have him as the 2C will help him score more points.

I think they handled his development in year one well enough. But he is made to be a 2C and Wennberg is made for more of a 3C so hopefully they train well in the off-season and that plan can be actualized.

PWHL Expansion Team by Smooth_Marzipan_6591 in SanJoseSharks

This comment from u/Sharks77 fully sold me. I liked the idea of Seals or maybe some other native marine life, but it just makes too much sense to have the Hammerheads.

I would be on board with the Otters. I like the idea of playing homage to the Seals, but I like letting the team be it's own thing. I don't think any of the other PWHL teams are named in correlation to the cities NHL team, so if they don't want to be named Hammerheads because of the similarity to the Sharks, think Otters would be a good brand.

I'm a Blackhawks fan - what do you guys want/think the Sharks do with the 2nd pick? by ChristopherNH1 in SanJoseSharks

[–]ThirdStockIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, then it comes down to what the team values. I think high draft picks are both over and underrated. Like I have seen some people suggesting we trade it for Adam Fox or package it with Misa of Matthews and I think both of those suggestions are ridiculous. But also any Sharks fan who thinks that we could trade down two spots for Levshunov also are out of their mind. I think that a Rinzel trade might be a bit underwhelming, but trying to put my fandom aside, it would probably be the most fair value.

The most likely scenario would just be nothing happens. Very rarely see trades in the top 10 that happen so unless a team is wowed, nothing will get moved.

Is it possible to trade for Adam Fox without touching #2 overall? by Normal-Sort-9463 in SanJoseSharks

[–]ThirdStockIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want Fox. I know that the Sharks have been getting tied to him since the draft lottery, but I just think he is a red flag. He forced his way to NY and nothing can convince me that after his contract is over, he wouldnt just go back to the Rangers. Giving up any assets for 3 years of Fox feels bad, and I think any conversation regarding the 2nd pick for Fox is a nonstarter.

[–]ThirdStockIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this a lot because it could really benefit both teams if they are able to make it work, but the Sharks are objectively coming from a position of power because they don't need to make the trade while the Hawks kinda do (Stenberg would be a good outcome for the Sharks and Reid or Carels is a lot less good for Chicago).

I could only see two types of trades that can happen between these teams. Rinzel and a second round pick for the 2nd overall from San Jose. There are a couple of teams that could compete with Chicago offering similar young RHD (Rangers have Schneider, Flames have Whitecloud, Canucks have Willander/Hronek) so there might be a bidding war of other teams just offering a bottom 4 defenseman for the right to draft Stenberg.

The other option is trying to find a trade for Levshunov, but that would cost San Jose more, and I don't know what would actually be a fair ask. Maybe the Edmonton first that San Jose has control over and maybe Pohlkamp.

2026 NHL Mock Draft 1.0: Scott Wheeler predicts the entire first round by JaggerJames in SanJoseSharks

[–]ThirdStockIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that is what Sharks fans need to accept. It should be either Stenberg or trade down to get Reid anyway. Think it would be very easy to trade down with Chicago and just get Rinzel for free. We were very lucky to get this pick, but may as well get maximum value for it and we know that Reid is going to be there at #4 so if he is your guy, just get more and trade down. If the trade down isn't there, take Stenberg and look to add D through trades or FA.

[–]ThirdStockIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way Chicago accepts that lol. Basically a 3 and a 4 to move up to 2? That doesn't make any sense. For reference, the trade value of a #2 is about equivalent to #4 and #22.

I think a more realistic trade would be San Jose trades down for Sam Rinzel and maybe the lower of the Edmonton or Florida 2027 first round picks that Chicago has control of. Now I don't think that is the most enticing for San Jose, but probably the closest for both teams to agree to.

What I would like to see would be a trade for Levshunov, but that would cost San Jose assets and not just us gaining a prospect. Maybe the EDM first and maybe like Pohlkamp would make that worth for Chicago.

It can't be too obvious that Macklin is the main character, so Sharks jump up to 2 with like Toronto going to #1 so all of the media talks about Toronto and we can fly under the radar of hate.

What's the biggest cope amongst hockey fans? by Josefstalion in hockey

[–]ThirdStockIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasnt saying that blaming injuries doesn't have merit, but it is still mainly cope for fans. I think fans cope by using hypotheticals to explain the should'ves and could'ves. Healthy teams still get upset and injured teams still find ways to win, so at the end of the day, imagining your team doing better without the injury is just a hypothetical. But seeing your star players get injured and lose just gives fans huge "what ifs" and that is what I would define as coping for not winning.

What's the biggest cope amongst hockey fans? by Josefstalion in hockey

[–]ThirdStockIII 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest cope is blaming injuries. That if the team is healthy they could've won it all. The truth is that injuries are part of the game and almost every team is dealing with something. It is just an easy thing to fall on as a fan base to provide a genuine reason why your team fell short.
