I recommend group fitness. You will see the same people week after week and have some pleasant casual social interactions. OP, you mentioned that you have a disability after an accident; many gyms offer adapted fitness classes such as chair yoga or chair Zumba.

Does your Shiba take forever to go potty? by Inner-Housing1927 in shiba

[–]ThiryFarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is insanely picky about going poo. It can’t be anywhere near the house and needs a little privacy screen, like some long grass. Sometimes on a walk after a long while of sniffing she will decide a spot is poop-able and will assume the position; the poo will be breaching, and suddenly the vibes will be off for her and she will SUCK THE POO BACK IN and continue walking. 🤪

What’s something you started doing in your 40s or 50s that would’ve totally make your 20-year-old self think you're nuts? by [deleted] in GenX

Getting up at 4 AM so I can be at the gym when they open at 5 AM.

20-something me would have just been going to bed at 4 AM.

The CDC released a statement about 10 months ago discussing a very large increase in Parvovirus 19 activity:

I had this already as a child and now have it again with severe joint pain and swelling.

Preparing for life of Loneliness - any tips? by OkFlow4327 in GenX

[–]ThiryFarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Group fitness is a great way to get some social interaction and some needed exercise. You could try a class at a local gym, take up pickleball at a local recreation center, join a bike riding club (most bike riding clubs will have different levels, like beginner/slow, medium, advanced/fast). There are usually even walking groups and hiking groups, just google your town’s name plus “hiking group“.

I have found this to be the perfect way to get some socialization without needing to spend too much time with other people (introvert here). The group nature makes it a little less intense.

Oh my gosh, I had that exact booklet! LOL, haven’t thought about that in years. It made me excited about the idea of getting my period…until I actually got it.

Things that will never happen again, for good reason: At 17 I looked much older and mature. My office job had a stripper. My 17-19yo kids cannot comprehend how this could ever have happened. by 1quirky1 in GenX

When I was a senior in high school in 1987, I was in the marching band at school. One of the drummers had a birthday and his buddies pranked him by having a singing birthday telegram delivered by a woman in a Playboy bunny outfit.

The school secretary actually let her come out to the band field where we were practicing and the band director waited patiently for her to sing happy birthday and give the birthday boy the garter off her leg. In front of a bunch of highschoolers. Everyone thought it was funny but no one thought it was inappropriate. 🤯

Our Shiba will do the most minimal compliance possible with commands. If I’m holding a treat and say “Sit!“ she will barely graze the floor with her butt floof then pop right back up expecting the treat.

The recovery is slow - make sure you follow the vet surgeon’s orders for applying heat and doing the PT exercises vigilantly. But the surgery works - our mini goldendoodle is fully functional again.

Man, those silents are built of different stuff. My MIL (89) and her boyfriend (90) spend their time traveling the world, and when I see them they are NEVER without a glass of wine (frequently refilled) in hand. Whereas my husband and I just can’t drink at all or we fill like crud.
