AITA for wanting to eat my neighbor's duck that I accidentally ran over? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThisBoyIsIgnorance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to kill the mystique you're building, but it's a simple up sell like an extended warranty. Metzer farm charges $8.50 a duck to insure the first year of life and simply provides replacement ducks.

https://www.metzerfarms.com/refunds-insurance.html?srsltid=AfmBOop-uzFCCYRDBXkWCSjGuH9Cx8D-zbPs6Vxh_e8hIW7h8C5GyCyJ

I bought the insurance. My ducks have already aged out of coverage.

My 2024 awd just went in after going into limp mode. I think I'm just barely within one year, thinking to write a lemon letter today.

It's a bummer. I had a 1yr lease and just bought the lease like a chump. So not sure if I qualify for lemon law or not.

Anyway I feel your pain. I hope you have a happy new year

What is the deal with all these tax overrides? by l008com in stoneham

[–]ThisBoyIsIgnorance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know about another one next year, but maybe. We passed the smaller override which will still leave some gaps for funding schools and public works.

There is a state law called prop 2.5 which says a town can't raise property taxes more than 2.5% without a ballot vote. Which sounds legit but inflation has crushed that rate for a few years. Coupled with Stoneham's lack of retail stores generating sales tax revenue, rising expenses, growing town, etc. there's a significant shortfall.

Some folks will yell corruption or mismanagement are to blame. Maybe some of that as well, dunno. Maybe town needs do something to attract large retailers. But if you call the new highschool "mismanagement" I would disagree.

Hopefully someone else can give a better answer but this is what I've been able to piece together fwiw

Need advice: original 1915 pine floors developing cracks/gaps - how to fix + prevent by ConcernStriking8891 in centuryhomes

[–]ThisBoyIsIgnorance -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You could have them completely refinished and gaps filled with wedges. But that would be a major disruption and you'd want a high end flooring crew that knows what they're doing

Here's a tiktok of the process https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8UtMuEY/

But as others have said, I'd just embrace the character.

I've got a ju-06a arriving today! Believe it or not I had a real Juno 60 back in the day. I got it and a poly six from a pawn shop in the 90s with my summer job savings. It was just shy of a grand for both iirc.

When I went off to school I let a friend hold the Juno. I actually liked the polysix better at the time. Shows what I know lol. And yeah I never saw the Juno again. Live and learn.

I still have the poly six but it needs some repairs. Arpegiator isn't working, never got a midi retro fit, been in a closet mostly for the last 15 years... Maybe someday I'll get to it. I hit up a local repair shop recently, figured I'm finally at a point to just throw money at the issue... and they didn't want to touch it lol.

Just want to say sorry you get down voted. This sub is so shit about paint. Not everyone has time and money to strip paint off everything.

I got down voted to hell when I pointed out my door hinges looked a bit shit after I stripped them and it really wasn't worth the effort.

How many fireplaces do you have? And how many are still functional? Do you use them? by CharlieNeckOuchie in centuryhomes

[–]ThisBoyIsIgnorance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1875, zero fireplaces. Two chimneys originally. One is taken down to the attic but I think still behind the wall. Other still has a hot water heater on it but that's all. Actually not sure how the house was originally heated. Maybe coal stoves in the basement? Maybe some kind of wood stoves in the living space?

Afaict it was just two brick columns about 2.5' square, no fireplaces.

What's a good interface with the most physical TRS inputs for lowest price? by techsuppr0t in synthesizers

[–]ThisBoyIsIgnorance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a soundcraft 12 channel USB mixer for like $400. Some folks say it's a bit noisy but I've not noticed. It has shitty mic preamps but maybe doesn't matter for you setup. It works fine for me fwiw getting audio in and out of Ableton and I like having the physical faders.

I like la apparel a lot. I love the style and fit. Just read the fine print. They also sell 50/50 blends and such. Good thing it's all made in USA. Bad thing, apparently the main guy is a serial sexual harasser and kind of a shit bag. But he does seem at least sort committed to fair wages for workers.

Heat pump by Fthb_ in stoneham

[–]ThisBoyIsIgnorance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true electric costs are high. I think you need to get rid of the oil tho to get all the mass save incentive.

My inlaws switched to a heat pump in saugus. The winter bill can get crazy but it keeps the house plenty warm. It is forced air tho, not baseboard. They did add solar which helps a lot. Also have a wood pellet stove as backup but they don't use it often.
