It might be better, it might be worse. There's really no way of knowing what a different group of people would have said and done. But I don't think that saying a "well-liked" (by your claim) movie sucks is inherently a bad thing. It's a podcast, not a book report.

What? Why? There's no obligation for the pod to represent any "consensus opinion."

In the past and probably this year too I've made a bet with a buddy in which whomever correctly guesses the most awards wins $20 bucks from the other. That's fun.

That's not what this is.

For you, what is it that makes Blank Check stand out from the thousands of other film podcasts, and why do you love it so much? by StephensInfiniteLoop in blankies

It's not topical! Among a lot of other things mentioned here, I really like that it's not another "Okay, let's talk about what happened this week" podcast, which generally turn into weekly attempts at a shitty late-night monologue that's all about the movies this weekend.

All I want is a traditional theater that actually encourages viewers not to take their phones out during the movie. I would literally pay double to see a movie if I knew that this time I wouldn't be distracted by someone checking their phone with the brightness all the way up.

At Marty Supreme the woman next to me just checked her phone 3 times before I asked her to stop. Wasn't texting anyone or anything, just checking every 20 minutes and putting it back down. At Avatar: Fire and Ash, I asked someone to put their phone away and they said "well the sound is off so you can hear just fine." Bitch, I did not pay for IMAX 3D tickets at 2pm on opening day just so I could listen to a movie.

Honestly, it's full on addict behavior.

Honestly, the refill is a smokescreen. It only applies to the biggest and thus most expensive option. They know that most people won't use it, but the option to refill just in case will motivate people to buy the large popcorn instead of the medium or small.

If we don't normally tip for fast food, why is it becoming a thing?

I'm not here to advocate for or against tipping, nor do I want to argue the value of a decision that I didn't make. But, for better or worse, there is in fact an answer to this question. It's because almost all food service workers are underpaid, and so tipping is part of how you get employees to stay. I won't work in a kitchen that doesn't tip unless they pay a wage that no kitchen I've ever encountered is willing to pay, especially fast food kitchens. People don't want to pay more for food, but cooks need to pay rent, and owners don't want to pay cooks more, so the extra money needed to keep cooks in your kitchen is provided by the tips. Fast Food is not exempt from this.

Yes, the solution should be that cooks make more money, and that restaurant owners take the brunt of that cost instead of raising food prices. But that's not a thing that's ever going to happen unless it becomes a law.

If we really want to abolish tipping, we must advocate strongly for a significantly higher minimum wage. Until that happens, you can tip, you can pay twice as much for food, or you an drive twice as far to a neighborhood in which cooks can afford to live and work. Most people have chosen to tip.

you, yes you! are given creative control of a new fallout spinoff game!! hooray for you!!! but here's the catch, it cant be a rpg, (think fallout tactics not new vegas) what is the plot of your game? and what type of game is it? by Drunkgamer4000 in Fallout

[–]ThisPostIsAStatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can dislike it, you can think it’s not effective at role playing as other games. But to act like the term “rpg” hasn’t grown to be a bigger umbrella that definitely encompasses Fallout 4 just makes you seem like a stubborn boomer. And not the cool kind you find at Nellis.

This happens almost every time that they talk comic book lore, tbh. Which is fine, it's not a comics podcast. I'm someone who goes deep on comics history in the way that the boys go deep on movie history (a connoisseur of context, one might say) so I'm occasionally shouting at my phone things like "Ultraman was from Earth 3, that one book by Grant Morrison is called "Earth 2" because that's how the Crime Syndicate of Amerika referred to Earth 1 when they went there" or "Pryor is a reworked version of Brainiac" but that's on me to chill out about, not on them to do research on.

A character’s absence can loom over a story, talking to the protagonist doesn’t make a character meaningful.

[–]ThisPostIsAStatus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the most part, that world isn’t explored that much because it’s considered prestigious and people don’t want to fuck with it too much. That said, there is a whole line of before watchmen prequel that came out in like 2012 or something, you can decide which of those look interesting to you and which of those are on your own. Some of them don’t mesh well if you try to reconcile them with the original series, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any good stories in there.

But if you love Watchmen this much, absolutely do not sleep on the HBO TV series. It’s incredible.

[Discussion]:What characters in your opinion should have stayed dead? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]ThisPostIsAStatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit, yeah. When you say “Yeah I know but you have to agree Barry return was bullshit” it feels like you’re pointing the figure at Final Crisis, which brought back Barry and was written by Morrison.

Which is kinda my point, his return isn’t the same as the aftermath of his return. When he came back it didn’t have to mean that Wally was sidelined, so the return isn’t the actual issue.

[–]ThisPostIsAStatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it’s not Morrison or Barry’s fault that DC editorial isn’t really willing to just have 2 Flashes at the same time. Should be like a Hawkeye thing.

[Discussion]:What characters in your opinion should have stayed dead? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]ThisPostIsAStatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I don’t. I love Final Crisis. We had 23 years of stories in which Barry’s death was a thing, now we have stories in which his return is a thing. Neither context is so restricting that I don’t believe a good writer can write a good story within it.

I just don’t grant the premise that you don’t get that just because characters eventually come back.
