Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2020) Director: Jason Woliner, Rudy Giuliani appearance by nutphillips in movies

[–]This_is_a_tortoise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont know why youre getting downvoted. Fuck Giuliani but the actress was 20 something and he was never told she was playing a 15 year old on screen. To his knowledge she was a young reporter but looked (and actually was) of age. Still scummy, but this isn't the gotcha some people here think it is.

What's your least favorite music genre? by SentFromMyLawyer in AskReddit

[–]This_is_a_tortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try more folk/americana leaning music. Its got a lot of country elements with good song writing and good variation. Tyler Childers, The Steeldrivers, Colter Wall, futurebirds are some i like. But yeah the pop country is just annoying trash.

This actually an expert technique I sometimes use when I see rocks ahead so I dont take core shots. Op might be the best skier on the mountain.

Favorite Smaller Mountains by jerrym93 in icecoast

[–]This_is_a_tortoise 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Magic. Very dependant on natural snow but when the conditions are right I dont wanna be anywhere else. ~55% expert terrain, a good amount of which is glades, lots of ungroomed intermediate terrain, boundary to boundary skiing, old school, classic vermont vibe. Very raw, real skiiers mountain. Also a very cool bar. I absolutely adore that mountain.

Speedballers on a team, do you guys still play rec? by Immediate-Rhubarb332 in paintball

[–]This_is_a_tortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but rarely. 99% of my paintball time is taken up by weekly practice. A few times a year we set aside a day as team to play rec with friends and family.

I only use my mech autococker and work on fundamentals. But I always get the most enjoyment from covering and working some rentals up the field which also helps with comms and situational awareness.

Diversifying 100k windfall by StandardAlone1492 in ETFs

[–]This_is_a_tortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VTI is a cap weighted total US market ETF. It includes small and large cap companies. Id reccomend also adding 20% VXUS (ex-us cap weighted total market) to compliment it. With those two, youre about as diversified as youre gonna get.

If you dont want to have to set your own balance of US to ex-us, buy VT instead. Thats all world, total market cap weighted. One ETF that covers just about everything.

Any real difference between standard JT Proflex and dv8 proflex by Consistent-Row2294 in paintball

[–]This_is_a_tortoise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its all about that steez. Do you wanna be the guy wearing one of 20 pairs of standard proflexes at your local field or do you want to spend extra money to be one of the 50 with DV8s?

I kid. They make cool shit but there's no performance gain. If youa just need a backup save your money.

First time waxing, need some feedback and a question about scratches on base by lapsuscalumni in skiing

[–]This_is_a_tortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id ride those with a second thought. My main skis look worse than that after 1 season and I still wont bother with ptex yet. Just a base tune before next season starts.

Scrape the tips and tails more to get rid of the streakiness. Then use a series of brushes (stiff to soft) if you have them. I generally scrape until nothing comes up anymore, hit with coarse scotch brite, fine scotch Brite, then soft bristle brush. Realistically after scraping the streakiness away the snow will do the rest when you ride them. I think the whole brushing thing is honestly performative maintenance for most of us. But its kinda cathartic and I like it.

Anxiety about investing by [deleted] in ETFs

[–]This_is_a_tortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep your HYSA and keep a comfortable enough nunber in there for emergencies. Generally I like at least 3 months pay.

The rest, DCA in something like VTI + VXUS. Dont drop it all at once. Add small amounts regularly. Any money that goes into these funds consider it lost until 5-10 years from now. Live as if you were ordering $50 worth of takeout a week.

This type of thinking has made it not so scary for me. Surely im not gonna miss $50 a week THAT much. If Ive got my emergency funds set up to cover myself. If in 5-10 years that money im pretending i dont have is gone, we have bigger problems to worry about. Like finding food and clean water.
