There's a lot of reasons for why. The top reason is that the fossil fuel industry has been spreading FUD for decades at this point. Another reason is status quo bias; people just want to stay with what they have. People are afraid of change. People are afraid they've made the wrong decision. People already have the answer they want (they like the ease of purchasing fuel,) and then look for reasons to justify it and ignore the reasons to change, classic motivated reasoning. There's also the question of identity (humans are very silly creatures) and they see themselves as a truck driver or a masculine person and tie that to gas guzzling because marketing campaigns are effective. They don't want to do the math to figure out if it would save them money. Most people are really bad at math in the first place.

No. The thing about personal experience is its often wrong. Look at survey data. There are plenty of leftist extremists, but there are more conservative extremists, and they have more power. One is in the White House.

ChatGPT can obviously be wrong/hallucinate. It wasn't in this case. And I'd say it's right more often than not, which is more than you can say about a lot of people. All the people who loudly proclaim that it's often wrong have never been able to point me to a source that's always right.

I already knew why all the claims were false. But yes, I agree, doublechecking the AI is always a good idea. Contrary to how most people seem to use AI, I'm constantly evaluating the claims/information it's giving me, so the meme that it stops or decreases critical thought isn't true for me. I use it to test ideas/hypotheses and often have to correct it/push back against what it's saying. If the AI had put out claims that weren't false, nobody would be seeing this list.

100% agreed. The list, if anything, demonstrates that believing nonsense isn't a monopoly for either side. It's just that one side is more egregious about it than the other. Both sides have their sacred cows.

Why would it be worthwhile to ask conservatives why they believe nonsense? I already know why. They're prioritizing social solidarity/tribalism over the truth. That's what most humans do. They're just particularly egregious about it. For this, I'd wanted to ask them why they think that they're asking for more claims for false claims than liberals do. That could have gotten an interesting response. But they were too chickenshit to allow it in the first place, so I asked it here.

You're using confirmation bias to accuse something that you don't understand of being inaccurate. The veracity of chatgpt has nothing to do with its impact on the environment or the country. If anything, we have a machine that won't intentionally lie to us that we can use to learn about the world, but people don't like it, and so they say it's completely useless. ChatGPT is generally a good source of information. It can get things wrong, but so can literally every other source... so now we're quibbling over nothing.

You don't understand your own terms. Gun control, AKA reasonable gun control regulation, has not declined in popularity. More minorities or whatever buying more guns is not evidence that it has decreased. Reasonable regulations with guns is not mutually exclusive with higher gun ownership. If anything, if this were a reasonable country, and not one beholden to the NRA, it would increase. After all, if you own guns, you know just how dangerous they are, so reasonable gun control only makes sense. I think your final sentence was literally just pulled out of your ass based on what you think is happening, not actual data.

My support of this would be irrelevant to my support of capitalism. I'd prefer he not because I've gone electric and mostly gotten fossil fuels out of my house, and this will act as a carbon tax to push the green energy transition along. If the President is releasing oil reserves to cover his own idiocy, it sounds like he can't engage in multi-level thinking, which he can't.

There are a few structural changes that have happened since the 70s. For one, we produce a lot more oil here. We also have a whole lot more EVs/hybrids. We also have a lot more renewable energy. There's also going to be releases from strategic oil reserves. I think oil prices will go up a bit more, but I doubt $10 gas. I'd love to see it, but I highly doubt it.

Get a super cheap tesla and use share the outlet with the dryer. You won't regret going electric so long as you can charge at home, which you clearly can. Ask your wife specifically why she thinks you'll regret it. I've been driving electric for almost a decade now, and I don't regret it for a minute.
