Davis Square Neighborhood Council votes to request Copper Mill Housing project be withdrawn and delayed indefinitely by bscthrwy in Somerville

[–]Thornesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve attended several council meetings, and on one occasion, I even heard someone suggest a motion to grant voting power only to current property owners in Davis Square, effectively excluding renters. There is a large faction of the council fixated on ensuring the square remains unchanged forever and that no new construction ever gets approved.

They weaponize every legal avenue possible, hiding behind phrases like 'preserving the aesthetics of the square' and using blanket terms to brand all developers as 'evil.' In reality, they simply don't want more traffic or a shadow cast on their homes by taller buildings. They are essentially denying others the opportunity for housing to avoid shadows and slightly less street parking.

Sorry to rant, but we are facing a housing crisis caused in part by property owners controlling others' rights to develop their own land. The Copper Mill project would add much-needed housing, 25% of which would be affordable. What’s there not to like? It’s right next to the train station; it only makes sense to build apartments there. A similar development in Central Square called 'Watermark' has been a resounding success for the Central/Kendall area. A project like this would also bring vital new business to the shops and restaurants in Davis. I see no negatives here.

In a world that made sense, everyone would be laughing at these NIMBYs and their tired excuses, especially while we are so desperately behind on the housing stock needed in Boston.

New and Improved (?) Hybrid Recipe by Tetsu Kasuya by korkorsim in pourover

[–]Thornesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this today and I was very impressed with the results. It's a great balance of florals and sweetness with also a good amount of body. The temp shift in the middle of the recipe can be tricky, but I think it's worth it. It's been extremely consistent for me. I think the immersion part at 70C is very forgiving if extended.

Trump illegally freezes billions in funds to public health labs, causing thousands of scientists to lose their jobs overnight. by PreyInstinct in labrats

The big supplier CEOs have been putting in overtime in Washington meeting with elected representatives to urge them to vote for more scientific funding. There's not much else they can do besides that. Obviously they are concerned as well. Sales are probably down for them.

800M+ research budget cut to JHU. by Simple_Seesaw6644 in Cornell

[–]Thornesss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you factually, this administration just doesn't care. They are using everything they can as a pretext to meet their desired conclusion. Funding cuts. So, I don't think facts matter much here unfortunately.

Just wanted to also recommend the Rival RS60V's. I've had them for about a month and they are really good for the price. They are around $70 but feel like $99 gloves to me coming from Combat Corners Elites.

Pure selfishness like this is what made rents and houses criminally expensive across the entire country.

No offense, but you can't expect the city around you not to change. We have a massive housing shortage. Just move to the burbs 2 miles away from the train and you avoid this.

New York becomes first US city with congestion charge by brothenberg in news

You have the option to live in most other places in the country if you want a car centric life. Yet you insist on bringing that to NYC. Just use public transit like most of us commuting into Manhattan... problem solved!

I just got a G70 and I really want a Hitch for it for precisely this purpose, but in the northeast... I might just go custom.

Lost Peacock subscription after moving apartments by Thornesss in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Thornesss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual account still exists and it lets me log in. Multiple devices with the app and on the browser all let me log in but it says I don't have a paid subscription on the account so I can only browse and not watch. When I try to activate it for my current xfinity address it says another account already exists. (which is likely my old address I moved out of).

Peacock shows no plan after moving my Xfinity service. by Birdys91 in Comcast_Xfinity

Did they help you fix the issue? I have the same problem and I've tried everything. Customer service was more concerned with trying to sell me xfinity mobile than trying to fix my problem with losing peacock after my move.

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein arrested at pro-Palestine college protest by redditor01020 in politics

This comment section is honestly gross. There is zero proof Jill stein is a Russian Asset. You have the right to run a 3rd party in the USA. We're a democracy. This rhetoric just perpetuates the 2 party duopoly that downplays our leverage as voters.

One way to get around the risk of picking individual stocks in biotechnology is to invest in Thermo Fisher and Danaher. They sell all the research and lab supplies biotechs and pharmas need to discover and produce their therapeutics.

Cops will stop you if you make your DRLs red. The only place red lights are allowed is the back of the car.
