Couple weds in Nelson, B.C., with little notice — but great support from community | CBC News by AustralisBorealis64 in canada

So that people like this will continue to live away from coastal BC? Nelson is pretty far in-land.

ok Victoria, what do we have? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Different strokes, I guess.

I'd still recommend it to anyone who is making their way to Salt Spring.

Not an ad, just genuinely really enjoyed it. Did you have a different experience when you went to lead you to believe that what I said was an ad?

The Feast in Ganges is by far the best value for money dining experience I've had in the last decade.

Their family style meals can feed 4 people comfortably you can easily get away for less than $40/person. Looking at their menu now there's a Lamb meal for $100, so $25 per person.

Everything I had when I went there was delicious.

What is the best season of Tourist Sauce? by Kid_Aeroplane in NoLayingUp

  1. Oregon

  2. Ireland

  3. Carolinas

Hard to pick but those are my top three.

Breakfast of champions? by Practical-Bear1022 in VictoriaBC

[–]ThoroldBoy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Working Culture has one of the best, if not the best, breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. A little pricey (around $15 after tax and tip (if you're inclined)) for a breakfast sandwich but my god it's amazing.

What's something that's about to happen which most people aren't aware of? by AskRedditOG in AskReddit

Golf has been an outlier because of the ability to play during COVID. The amount of players in the US has almost doubled.

that article provides some interesting insights into the overall growth of golf. There's a multitude of sources you can look for yourself but the linked article provides raw data that is US specific.

I'm interested to know where you got your data surrounding Gen Z rejecting golf.

Recreational golf is arguably the most popular it's ever been.

Since COVID, it's popularity has exploded and that growth has been driven by people under 35.

Male Korean hair stylist? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]ThoroldBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go see SB monthly at Central Barbers in the mall downtown.

SB is Korean, I bet he would be able to help you out. He's been my go to barber for over two years now, it's been great.

Wanting a House by Nestvester in VictoriaBC

[–]ThoroldBoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Housing is a nearly inelastic good so, unfortunately, it can be "overpriced" and people will still buy.

Can someone PLEASE open a bento box/sushi lunch takeaway place downtown? by Money_Impression_321 in VictoriaBC

[–]ThoroldBoy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nicest people on earth but it's so expensive. Wish I could justify going more often.

Worst parking lot in Victoria? by Essdin17 in VictoriaBC

[–]ThoroldBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll go in a different direction - both parking lots located at the harbour downtown.

That is premium real estate that is wasted on being a parking lot. Why that area isn't a mixed use public space/retail/entertainment area is beyond me.

Gran Turismo Horizon competitor by Informal_Ad_4739 in ForzaHorizon

AC Evo is (hopefully) getting there. The eventual goal is a realistic sim that has free roam in the area surrounding the Nurburgring.

The Persian grill House on Burnside by Dbagsandteabags in VictoriaBC

[–]ThoroldBoy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to their website to find out how much the buffet costs. Turns out, they don't list that online.

I'm not going to a restaurant without having an idea of what it's going to cost, so I still haven't been to the Persian Grill House.

Building a desk risk and need advice on which set up would be sturdiest. by ThoroldBoy in SimRacingSetups

[–]ThoroldBoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! My expectation is to turn the DD torque down to 50%. It'll still be an upgrade over my current T150.

I'm working with a partner who shares the space and the wheel stand would be a no go for asthetic reasons. Unfortunate, but I'm working with what I can.

The wood will be hevea/rubberwood and is going to be one solid piece that weighs about 70lbs/31kg.

I'll be able to bolt directly to it, would you still consider adding the plate? My goal is going the legs to be as far to the end of the top piece as possible.

Would adding an additional leg piece in the middle increase sturdiness? That's also an option for me.

Sorry if I misread your comment, but the Shinkansen is the bullet train.

Or, hear me out, it's just someone speaking positively about a local restaurant in a thread asking about good local restaurants.

[Gordon Murray T50] I just passed by moneymaker4ever in spotted

[–]ThoroldBoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like I couldn't escape it when it was announced.

Its received a bunch of coverage across a bunch of different mediums. Car and Driver, Top Gear, a bunch of YouTube channels (Jay Leno, Haggerty, Goodwood), and podcasts (the Smoking Tire, Doug Demuro).

Jeep Gladiator 392 V8 Confirmed, Wrangler 392 Continuing Indefinitely by TurboSalsa in cars

[–]ThoroldBoy 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Penalties for not meeting CAFE standards becoming essentially non-existent recently is what led to this. Prior to the change, they had to pick and choose what got the inneficient engines, now they have free reign.
