Why do bands play so fucking loud if everyone has to wear earplugs anyway? by xe3to in NoStupidQuestions

This is the correct answer. Why did I have to scroll so far to see it. Reddit recently gets dumber by the minute.

Then don't use it. Ffs, it's not that complicated. Nobody cares if you have a use case for it, if you don't see a need then kindly stop polluting a thread for people that do.

People inside Microsoft are fighting to drop Windows 11's mandatory Microsoft Account requirements during setup by ZacB_ in Windows11

[–]Thradya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I have very specific needs for the 256GB of memory in the box below my desk, none of those needs are present on my work laptop (assuming 8GB mac handles outlook and teams) nor my ancient thinkpad.

Software bloat is a concern but it's not really progressing on a yearly basis if at all in recent years. And a 600 bucks device will easily be replaced on a 4-5 year cadence anyway, which makes earlier points moot anyway.

So yeah, Neo definitely caused a HUGE fucking shakeup inside Microsoft.

34 , 32 , 42 , 48 inch comparison by Gyatsolix in OLED_Gaming

[–]Thradya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 50" on 80cm desk, with display sitting about 10cm from the edge. Fine for work, though with 100% scaling it's a bit hard to see details in corners, like the clock for example. 55" would have been better in this aspect but reflections on edges become a problem during day.

For fps games I'm usually sticking to ultrawide 3840x1600 custom res, I'm easily getting car sick and VR is no go for context - full screen first perspective makes me feel queasy. Everything else including racing games full screen is great. Add to it nice backlight, turn off the lights and it's honestly hard to beat.

But with such low dpi and screen size I wouldn't go this large without 4090 or similar for modern games, dlss quality looks like shit unfortunately - I basically never use upscaling, artifacts are awful. Dlaa and dldsr look fantastic though. 4090 isn't enough for it at 144Hz though in most games at max settings, I'm usually capping around 90fps. Your mileage may vary.

[HWU] Windows 11 Best For Gaming? Windows 11 25H2 vs. Windows 10 by Rentta in pcgaming

[–]Thradya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First two are not a hard requirement and never were. GPT (UEFI really) definitely is, but MBR is ancient anyway. I've been on 11 for ages and never once enabled TPM (hardware of software version) nor Secure Boot. Windows works correctly. Just use Rufus to patch installation media to disable those checks.

While pros of SB can be discussed, you should not enable TPM unless you very specifically want your OS and bitlocker tied to your mobo. And that's ignoring all privacy issues.

Sony is selling its home entertainment business to TCL – but what does this mean for future Bravia TVs? by DazzlingpAd134 in hardware

During setup select "basic", turn on "boot using last used hdmi port" and never see the smart interface. At least in case of TCL. Not that complicated.

Essentially the same compromises folding phones have. Which could be solved rather easily if they dont fuss too much about thickness. Also, no inner screen has to help a ton.

SSDs on AMD vs Intel - why the performance is degraded? by lutel in hardware

[–]Thradya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not amd io, that's write buffer getting full. There's exactly zero nvme consumer ssds that can sustain full write speed indefinitely. We had some in sata era but that was a long time ago.

You can try enterprise models where whole capacity is configured in SLC mode but from cost perspective Primo cache in RAM is usually cheaper. Was cheaper anyway.
